    Glad to see you back Neville, I hope you and yours had a good holiday. As to the question of 'Perspex' every book I've ever read including ones written during and just after the war, use the word "Perspex" Perspex as you rightly said was a trade name. The manufacturer was the chemical giant ICI, Imperial Chemical Industries. They were the producers to the best of my knowledge of ALL the "Perspex" used in all the United Kingdom produced aircraft during WW2 I believe they had various plants around the country. I'm not sure how many were capable of producing the product, but in wartime who knows? I suppose there could have been imports of another brand of sheet acrylic from the US and maybe ICI couldn't produce enough to supply the demand for it. Huge as that demand must have been on top of all the other chemical products they had to make. But certainly in the early part of the war, as far as I know, "Perspex" it was called and actual Perspex it was.

    Welcome back. I’ve missed the weekly updates and hope you’re OK. You have a most enquiring and relaxing voice, nothing gruff, it’s more background work that drowns out what is being said, not your fault.. hope you enjoyed the holiday. Thanks again for your excellent insight to the restoration of NX611, all good stuff and more educational than Tony Robinson on Time Team (and a lot less running about and waving of arms, but just as fun and exciting!)😂😂

    @samrodian919Ай бұрын

    Hi Nev glad to see you back. Don't worry about the audio, it's just the background noise and let's be honest there is plenty of that at East Kirkby lol nothing you can do about that when interviewing one of the guys inside the hangar. As for Perspex, yes it was a the trade name of Imperial Chemical Industries here in the uk. And to my knowledge of reading all sorts of books written both during and after the war, Perspex it was always called., now as a kid in the sixties "Perspex" was a household word, but it never was before and during the war. After yes because Perspex was becoming know because of the use in aircraft during wartime and it was always called that, not "Acrylic" I didn't know until the eighties that Perspex was actually acrylic ! As a teacher we used to get a donation of coloured acrylic sheet off cuts from a sign making company the one of our pupils parents owned and even then most of the sheet acrylic was ICI's "Perspex" there was a smattering of other brands, the only one I can remember was "Lexan" which is a shatterproof not quite clear acrylic. Out borough CDT advisor had purchased a full sized sheet or sheets, and it had been cut up and a piece given to each of the schools in the borough for the schools to make their own shatterproof shields for the drill presses. I made up a mould and former to make them in the vacuum former we had just been given.

    fascinating video Nev' i really appreciate the efforts you go to to record the goings on (and personally, your voice is great, narration is a success) i am now going to have to go back to the beginning and binge watch everything - seeing you guys fit and refit until its right shows the dedication, love and skill that goes into these mighty birds - but i can't help think what it must of been like back in the day - 'that's the part Bert, make it fit, use a hammer lad, oh that will be fine, its nothing critical' - and the production on the Wellingtons must of been crazy with all those frames being different

    Hi Stephen, I sent a question to you 4 days ago on Video 249 I guess you mist it, regarding combing above the instrument panel. John and the lads not sure what you are referring to could you clarify .Is it the shape of the top of the instrument panel !. thanks for the comment on 253. @stephenhobbs1052 9 days ago @nevillewheeldon1693 Hi Neville, can you ask the guys at the hangar if the combing above the instrument panel was a thing with Tiger Force Lancs? none of the earlier pics in Lancaster at War feature that combing? Must have been to keep the sun off the instruments flying in daylight. Jane has it.. Cheers Neville @nevillewheeldon1693 4 days ago @stephenhobbs1052 Hi Stephen, not sure what you mean by combing, I had a word with John and then went into the Lancaster cockpit, none of the lads new what combing meant in regards to the instrument panel ,did some videoing while this was going on
