I actually used hydraboost for years and just switched to Vichy 89. I love the Vichy a lot more because I like the gel/liquid texture. It made my face feel more hydrated and not sticky.

I'm a huge fan of Vichy Mineral 89. I used it before the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Rich Moisturizer and I love how the combo has worked so far. My skin looks healthy, hydrated and glowing.

I use the Vichy mineral 89 and I absolutely love it. For anyone else using it you only need a single small pump of it, just a pea size. Also put it on right after cleansing when your skin is still damp because when you apply it when your skin is dry it won’t spread properly and you’ll have to use a lot to spread it on your face. It also works best when you apply it right after cleansing.

Came to see your review, Dr Dray! I’m 36 and new to skincare and have been enjoying your thoughtful and well spoken insight! You’ve helped me to learn so much! I bought the travel size to try it out and I’m just about finished it. I was considering repurchasing but was hesitant to splurge on the full size. On a whim I decided to check out my local TJ Maxx and then had the full size for 20. I enjoy layering it with my hada labo moist lotion, especially after I use an aha or bha product, just for the extra moisture. (Acne, melasma, combo skin, pih, wearing a mask for 8 plus hours a day) thank you for sharing your wisdom! You’re helping me learn to love my skin!

I love the Vichy mineral 89, thanks to you. I know its expensive but it works for me. I only use a pump of this, so i know it will last me. Thanks to you my skin has improved so much. I was getting contact dermatitis all the time. I went to the dermatologist and an allergy doctor, none of which could tell me what the cause was. I felt so defeated. So what I did next was take your advice and went fragrance free. My skin has improved so much. Thanks Dr. Dray😀

Thank you for another great review. You changed my skincare. I now use Vichy 89 (neutrogena was too heavy for me) + LRP + tretinoin at night and Vichy + LRP or CeRaVe (I rotate them, but find LRP to be easier on my skin) + Sunscreen in the morning. The one thing I was unable to drop is vitamin C serum. I do notice that I tend to get sun spots (despite three layers of sunscreen [zinc + colorscience + drunk elephant tinted instead of make up)] w/out vitamin C serum. But, you helped me to stop chasing every new cream (and a lot of them hugely pricey and equally disappointing). Thank you!

Regarding the breaking out from the gel cream, I think it’s probably the “wax” ingredients in the cream. Anything with any sort of “wax” whether it’s beeswax, or isoparrafin wax or microcrystalline cellulose or ceresin or any sort of those waxes, I break out. Petrolatum is perfect for me for some reason so the body lotion is safe, Vaseline is a life saver for me whereas the cerave healing ointment and aquaphor products severely break me out. Likewise almost all cream bronzer or blush products break me out because they all use some sort of wax in their bases. Dimethicone on the other hand absolutely never breaks me out, so I would hypothesize the wax ingredients are the culprit on this moisturizer breaking people out. Thanks for ur videos, I’m def not a doctor but I am a girl whose tried it all over the years and researched and ruled out ingredients that irritate my skin and am finally getting a handle on my acne lol

I'm on my second bottle of the Vichy. I use it just as you suggested ... only a small amount on fingertip around eyes, on damp skin, after my vitamin c serum but before my moisturizer. I like the consistency and it feels soothing. I feel that it's been helping with fine lines, but most of us use so many different products, that it's really hard to determine what is effective and what is not. If you prefer the Neutrogena hydro boost better though, I'd be crazy not to give it a try next.

  • @ashleykelly3279

You are supposed to layer products according to when I was in school, you use the thinnest products first and work to the thickest, put them on in that order. Like any sprays first, tgem serums, then moisturizers and other treatments that are same thickness and texture. They said if you put the liquid it serums on top of something thicker like moisturizers, it can’t sink in bc thicker stuff causes a barrier. Vitamin c should probably be used after cleansing. That’s what I do with the skinceuticals C+E with 😢ferulic acid, it’s called a serum, but it’s liquid🥲. Also learned that active products should go on clean skin like acids, aha, glycolic, salicylic, bha, and vitamin c. The ingredients like hyaluronic acid is not an active acid, meaning it doesn’t actually exfoliate or anything, just helps with moisturizing

I’ve tried the Neutrogena Hydro Boost and experienced immediate irritation. Unfortunately, this seems true of many Neutrogena products, including sunscreen, although I don’t consider my skin to be ultra sensitive. I’ve had much better luck with a separate HA serum and have used both Paula’s Choice and The Ordinary, topped with an occlusive moisturizer. I have oily skin, rare breakouts, but showing signs of light wrinkles.

I have tried looking online for an answer but cant find a reliable one, I am slowly starting to lose hope.I really love your channel thanks for all the help.

After cleansing my skin with the Neutrogena ultra gentle hydrating cream cleanser, recommended by Dr Dray, I pat dry face and immediately spray my face with the vichy thermal water spray and while damp I applied the vichy mineral 89. I didn't apply an occlusive over it tho because my skin irritates easily with anything heavy or especially petrolatum which always clogs my pores or burns the dermatitis Im new to. Do u recommend any facial oils over it instead ?

I’ve used both, and I do feel that Neutrogena seals in the hydration better. But it feels kinda filmy when used in a large amount over the whole face. I’ve started to use it in targeted areas like you do, and it works better this way!

I was curious about the Vichy serum but the price kept me from jumping on it. I do love the Neutrogena gel cream and layer it under the CeraVe moisturizing cream. I also use the Hydro Boost body cream from the neck down, never thought to use it on the face too. Will have to give that a try. :-) It's my go-to body lotion during the summer because it has a nice cooling effect when I apply it to wet/damp skin. :-)

I agree it’s too expensive. And I think it’s too expensive for what it did for my skin. I tried the Vichy 89 that I picked up in Europe and I wasn’t a fan! It was too runny and watery. It didn’t do anything for me. I would definitely not repurchase it . However, I LOVE 💙 Neutrogena fragrance-free HydroBoost products and have kept repurchasing them and will continue to do so. Like you, I loved applying HydroBoost in the summer. There’s no need to be spendy on skin care since the drugstore offers many great options. $$$$ does not equal superior skin care.

Another difference between these products is that the volcanic water in Vichy is very mineral rich, with potassium in particular, which may helpful with skin conditions like rosacea. Hyaluronic acid only provides temporary benefits, so it should always be followed up with a more occlusive moisturizer. I prefer the Vichy because it has no silicone and therefore doesn't cause my CC cream to pill. I find the Vichy to be a less sticky formulation on my mature skin also. I received a free sample of the Vichy and vastly preferred it to The Ordinary HA that I had been using.

My favorite hyaluronic acid products are from PIPING ROCK. I love both their serum and their Hydro Gel gel-cream. Also, their Royal Jelly & Manuka Honey cream is the only moisturizer that my eczema-prone skin can handle. (Cerave moisturizers make my pores scream... no, really. My skin can’t take it.) The best thing about Piping Rock is that their products are very low-priced. Most of the creams are 4 ounces, but usually less than $10! And they have the best sales!

I loved Vichy, but it wasn't hydrating enough when I was going throw my extreme dehydrated skin phase from acids. I got Rovectin's serum just because I saw Korean KZreadrs raving about it. Oh my goodness. It's 100x more moisturizing than the Vichy. It's super thick, so it can be applied like a serum if you're just using your hands. I love it so much.
