It’s super interesting to me how the fragrance tide has changed. For years, everything had it & those of us who have issues wished we had more ff options. Then it became bad. Now, I’ve almost seen it swing back from being demonized to some people on the Internet get hostile to those of us who want to avoid it. Personally, I don’t care what anyone else does. I can’t use any fragrance on my face because I have rosacea and it makes it worse, so I make a choice to avoid it. All I want is options for me AND for the people who like fragrance. I think Elf, Neutrogena, & Purito are companies who are doing a really good job of this giving 2 versions. Wish that were normalized.

I tried Kiko's Hydra Pro Matte moisturizer, I really enjoyed it for my oily skin - obviously it's hard to not have oils coming in the end of the day. But the thing is that it looks like that 1/4 of my grandma's parfum was there.

I also started using the water based one and love it. I have oily skin but the hydration it gives me is so perfect that my skin doesn't see the need to produce so much oil anymore. It goes on with no shine and is great alone or under makeup. As long as they make it, I'll be buying it for sure.

i have oily skin, living in a tropical country, and i love the water gel! it's def a life changing for me who is really struggling to find "the best" moisturizer👍 btw, thank you for the explanation doc!🙏🙌
Thank you Dr Sugai for pointing out the difference. Didn’t realize how creams can be so similar but different and how fragrance may affect you. Good to know, thank you and have a pleasant day! Aloha!🌴🌈🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
Would you consider doing a video about skincare for the seniors? I've learned a lot from watching your videos and thank you for your efforts.
Thanks for breaking down these 2 products for us, I've been using the Nuetrogea Fragrance Free, but I'm going to try the other one, since you and your wife liked that one.
I am cautious about daily scented lotions. Not due to allergies or anything like that but having too many different scents. I prefer my fragrances to be separate from anything that I plan on using in a daily routine.
I just started using the gel and I love it! I also just used the mask and it's amazing! I have super sensitive skin I have rosacea. The mask is what got me to get the gel
I bought the gel cream by accident once. It was too rich for my skin so I used it as a night cream. The water gel version I’ve been using for almost a decade. It’s just perfect for very oily skin.
Absolutely love your videos and reviews you do!
I wish the original formula was simply offered fragrance free. I'm really sensitive to fragrances, as in the actual smell, and find the one that is included overpowering, otherwise this stuff is perfect. ☹️I also have an issue with textures and can't stand the feeling of most lotions on my skin but the water gel feels so good.
both of these are great!! i use the water gel all year and then the water emulsion/cream during winters since my skin requires extra hydration during that time.
Thank you very much...this was something I was curious about!
Thank you! For this video!
Nice, quick, helpful videos. Thank you!
I have extremely sensitive skin, and lots of allergic reaction and , I used the blue and I think the white one nio reactions whatsoever. Best product I’ve ever used on my skin. Oh yeah the water gel I agreed fee,s so much better.
The “regular” hydro boost feels so nice like you said and it works beautifully under makeup-it’s almost like a primer. They also make a version called “city shield” that has spf. It feels a lot like the non spf -maybe not quite as wonderful feeling but that’s to be expected. Why does spf have to not be something I love applying LOL.
I have contact dermatitis on my hands. It took months to get a diagnosis (Dyshidrotic Eczema) It gets pretty bad with blisters, severe cracks and bleeding on my fingers and Hands. Turns out it’s work related associated with medical gloves at work that I have to wear for 10 hrs a day. I wear glove liners now and it helps a lot but a lot of the medications I use have Dimethicone in them.. those are the barrier creams. I’ve never had a problem with them. I been using the Neutrogena Hydro boost gel since it came out .. my skin is so dry and when I put it on, it’s like Omg… relief! Like diving into a cool pool .. I love it so much. I like the scent and it doesn’t bother my skin but I got the extra dry last time because My skin is extra dry. But either way they never have bothered my skin or my fingers when I put it on. I’m in love with this stuff

Excellent video Dr. Sugai! I don't have anything against fragrance. It's really too bad that it has been demonized all over youtube and other social media platforms. I tried the Neutrogena hydro boost gel for almost 2 weeks now, and it works really well for my dry face.
Thanks! I was just trying to figure this out ( differences)
Thank you clarifying these two products it was very well explained. I personal use the water gel and I it works for my skin.
The fragrance issue is very real: I am 44 years old and skincare with fragrance did not affect me in my 20s or 30s, but at age 40……it sure did start affecting me and I also gained rosacea like most do. That’s when I went fragrance free and I have been VERY pleased and satisfied. Most likely it “may” affect you later in life/age. Fragrance free just plays nice 🤷🏻♀️and I love Neutrogena, Cerave, Eucerin, Curel, Hada Labo, Ambi, ZapZyt, Cetaphil, Vaseline, and CVS & Walgreens products.

Same with me Rosa, except in my 50’s. Had rashes, fissures, itching, etc. for over a year. Couldn’t even hug someone without breaking out. Then a dermatologist gave me a patch test and even he was surprised that I was allergic to both the fragrance categories of the test. So fragrance-free for me. Glad you found a better way for yourself :)

I have used both and I 💘 LOVE the water gel! It does seem to work much better for me. Ironically enough, even though the gel cream says it is for extra dry skin, it did NOT seem to moisturize my skin at all...I agree with the doctor above in all regards! Thanks for the video!😊

It's for dry skin because it has more occlusives to seal in hydration. But that also means it can have less humectants. You can try water gel and then gel cream right on top of it!
In the process of purchasing one of these, you just made it much easier, thank you
ive tried both. im usually sensitive to fragrance and cant use most moisturizers, but the water gel didn't cause any redness or burning, its honestly the best moisturizer i've used on my oily/dry face. as for the cream-gel, it felt very heavy and my face would produce so much oil. even using a small portion of the product left my face either super dry or super oily. definitely sticking to the water gel.

When using the gel cream, keep your skin a little bit wet, and remember to use lotion after putting on the gel cream. If we use the the gel cream with a dry face, the hyaluronic acid may absorb water that is already in our skin and left our face dry.

I don't usually have sensitivity to fragrance, but, some products just stink, or the scent to too strong. I prefer fragrance-free just for that reason. I also don't want anything competing with my parfum.
So glad I came across this, I love the range but will definitely be avoiding the fragrance next time.
I use the water gel. Interesting vlog. I learned a lot. It also has sunscreen- a plus. HYDROBOOST City Shield
Your video is really helpful! I have been using neutrogena hydro boost water gel for a year now and yes it is so good for my skin. But I am getting a little skeptical now because of the blue dye. I mean nothing bad is happening to my skin it just the dye that worries me because I am not sure if there is going to be any side effects after using this products for the next few years… May I ask what is your take on this? Does dye matter in skincare products or no?
These are the only creams I use love the way they feel 🎉🎉
This product is amazing, already makes your skin looks so great and radiant.
I love this review and explanation I literally just got this moisturizer and I was a bit confused Bc there was like 3 different kinds. I went with the hydrogel Bc I was looking for a replacement for the Sunday Riley tidal cream which is ridiculously expensive but i go huk Into it from a sample. I purchased 2 during a sale. However after I open the second full-size it was moldy and so I wanted to exchange it but to my surprise i was out of stock everywhere, I was able to get a full refund even after it being passed the return date. Not sure if this neutrogena cream is the same but it’s water base and it also has hyaluronic acid.
The whole Hydro Boost range is really value for money, and the quality is as you might expect from pricier brands. Very light, refreshing and leaves skin smooth, my products of choice for quite a while now.

It's the only thing that helps with my psoriasis. I live by it
Hmm another topic to think about could perhaps be the leeching of the silicones and synthetic beeswax into the environment? Silicone is said to not break down so easily, so it's possible they pollute the environment for a long time. I really liked the Water Gel and use it as my daily moisturiser but I've learned a bit more about sustainability and being environmentally friendly, and I'd like to make the switch to a different brand (not to mention Neutrogena is owned by Johnson and Johnson who have a slew of malpractice and unethical behaviour). I still have a halfway full tub though lol. I gotta finish that. I was already thinking of changing moisturisers because the smell is so chemical-ly and strong, but I couldn't find one that would evaporate/not leave a sticky residue. Still on the hunt for a new moisturiser. It's going to be difficult to find a brand that feels as nice as the Water Gel ;-;
This stuff has done me wonders for dry skin around my nose and eyebrows
Thank you for this info.
I’ve used the gel cream extra dry for years and really like it 🎉 in winter I use it as a moisturizing serum beneath my thicker moisturizer like Cerave Moisturizing Cream at night for a deep moisturizing treatment. I’ve never tried the original.
Thank you, great review.

I’m not even sensitive to fragrance but I personally think it’s too strong and would prefer it to be lighter. The fragrance-issue is real. Many don't just react to what it does to the skin, but asthmatics and others might react to the smell with severe breathing problems and all. So just avoiding fragrance in products overall is the smartest and kindest thing to do.

I’ve been considering getting this gel for a while now, and I was reaaally close to picking up the fragrance-free, dye-free one thinking those were the only differences between the two, until you talked about the beeswax and the propolis! I had a patch test done this past year and out of 96 allergens, the ONLY thing I reacted strongly to was propolis! My doctor told me to avoid any product with beeswax in it and my silly self didn’t realise it could be sneaked into a gel moisturiser. I gave a cursory glance to the ingredients list and didn’t notice the beeswax, so were it not for your video and you specifically calling out the propolis, I would’ve spent money to give myself some continuous allergic reactions. 🤦🏽♀️ THANK YOU!
