VFR Flight Following: The Best Part of Flying in the USA?
This week I explore what I believe is the best part of VFR flying in the US - Flight Following. It's been one of the most useful things I've learned since I've been flying here!

Brilliant video. I must say that airplane is a big upgrade to what you was flying in the UK. It also looks like it's got a parachute too. Which I think is a brilliant device.
Awesome!!!!! I drove from Dallas to Waco many years ago, this video has inspired me to now do it with MSFS. Thank goodness for MSFS; it is the only way I will be able to “fly” something like a Cessna 172 solo from Dallas to Waco. Great to see someone out there flying solo for real! Thanks!❤
Hey Noel we would love to see a little more panel stuff! best wishes to Rachel hope she's feeling better!
Ive been following you and watching your videos for several years now and its so awesome to see you flying around or through my neck of the woods (The DFW Metroplex)
Flying in the USA is just so much better in every way than flying here in the uk. So much so I’ve more or less given up on it back home apart from to keep current. Great video Noel. 👌
Love the seat belt.
Noel you are such a cool guy so talented That plane looks so comfortable ❤
I just saw this pop up.. can't wait to watch when I get home.. I hope Rachel is feeling better.. 😊..I've already given a like because I know I will love it..take care
Hi Noel - I love light aircraft flying so this video was great for me. Please share more flights like this with us. I hope Rachael is feeling better. All the best from Oz.
So cool! I fly out of the DFW area a lot and love flying through the Bravo. For such a busy space, Regional does a great job to accommodate us. Love flying over Carswell and seeing the military planes too.
That’s my fbo where I work and fly out of! That’s cardinal on the ramp is mine! Cool to see!
What an awesome video! It was so relaxing watching you fly. I think it's wonderful that you are able to fly on your own. I can see you really enjoy it and are passionate about it. I hope you enjoy living in TX. I'm from WI myself. I think the heat from TX summers would cause me to wilt and die. I'm a winter person more than a summer person.
brilliant video i enjoyed
Smashing mate...cheers
Amazing ! I didn't know you were a pilot ... been following your main channel for years watching you whinge about poor service on airlines is so satisfying lol
Imagine being cleared into Heathrow airspace just to cross over the airfield. The US it's done so much different. I really like the way they handle VFR.
Noel have you ever considered going to the oshkosh fly in air show. I think it would make a great video or 2! Lots of love back from the right side of the pond😉England! 🏴

Thanks for this excellent video Noel I am slowly getting to grips with the differences between US and UK GA flying I love the way you explain it all makes total sense but I am very jealous 🙂

Haha thank you! It takes a bit of getting used to but once you're immersed you soon get the hang of it!
Great video Noel! Oklahoma is a beautiful state (I live in Colorado), but it’s in Tornado Alley and they do get a lot of severe weather.
Great video Noel the pictures look really cool. I just wanted to ask How is Rackel been feeling I hope she is getting better. 2 thumbs up my friend!!!!
How comes there is no Loo Review...... Just Kidding..... Fantastic videos. I follow you on both your channels. By the way, you and Josh make a great team....... Awesome....... Keep Em' Coming.....
Great video Noel! Yes, VFR flying here in the United States has to be one of my favorite things to do in my Cessna 172. It is so convenient to just take off from your airport and be able to go pretty much wherever you wanna go so long as it’s not a restricted airport like a military, one or a private field. This video was great just like all of yours and I can’t wait to see you flying back next week.! Cheers 🥂 Caleb’s Aviation 😊
Never have seen seat belts that do not go over the legs
Good video Noel. Hope you're enjoying the Houston heat. Just remember that August is the hottest month. Cheers!😅

That's why I'm intending to spend most of August out of the country 😂
Could you include more of the approach please
If you ever find yourself in the McKinney TX area let me know!!!
how are you coming along with your instrument and commercials Noel?
Hi Noel . love your vids, on all channels. much like you, I was a flight geek most of my younger years...but the difference is that I never had the courage to go to flight school...I stayed with MFS through the years. hours and hours..... then I got married had kids and neglected it completely until a month ago.....I'm playing with the idea of going to private flight school. I'm 44 years old.....am I crazy?
Hey Noel, is that a mini battery plugged into your left GoPro?
Teesside (EGNV) will always aim to hand you over to the next unit :-)

Teesside are really good at that, I actually requested a frequency change once and they said no, and just handed me over 😂
Watching now. Did I see just a short blip with your son in the co-pilot's seat? Then empty seat? 😀 No worries - just wondered. And Rachel is in my prayers!

Was a flashback to compare comms US vs UK
Greetings from 2 miles northeast of Flying Oaks Airport 2TE2. You must have been 10 to 15 miles east of here on this video. Oh yes, and my Mother-in-laws family come from a town called Robinson, just to the south of Waco.
This is a fun video. If you don't mind some feedback - I would avoid playing music during communications. I like hearing the back and forth with ATC. Also, if it's possible to split the intercom audio from the radio audio - it would be nice if you could just isolate the intercom audio when you're talking directly to us - sometimes it's difficult to understand with the music and irrelevant ATC going at the same time. Looking forward to more videos!
You are awesome. Living my dream. I have never been in a small plane other than flight sim . Noal if you ever fly into Huntsville,Al or Pryor field in Decatur Al please take me up for a ride!!!!! Lol😊😊😊 man that would be cool. I will grill some steaks and fill your belly. Lol 😊😊😊 one can dream.

Lol Noal would see a 50 year old man turn into a 12 yr old boy. Lol
Are you old enough to remember the shootout in Waco?
@FlyWithNoelPhilips

I am indeed. Very sad events, didn't really understand it until I saw the recent documentary.
For someone flying VFR, you look somewhat sparsely outside… ( 4:22 )
The cirrus rental you are using looks far FAR FAR cleaner and more modern the Piper's you were flying out of Gamston
Sunglasses?Not at those prices!!
Wacko Waco. Home of Dr. Pepper and some nuts.
sounds like the air traffic controllers in the UK are a bit lazy.....
@FlyWithNoelPhilips

I think they are overworked a lot, and with so much airspace in such a small area, it's probably not surprising.
Nothing worse than lazy talking on radios. Speaking clearly and annunciation are paramount. Listening to people talk like that are frustrating. Don't be lazy.....it doesn't make you cool! Great video other than that!
I have flown pipers with both the avidyne system like that and the g1000. How do you like those avionics compared to the g1000? @noelphilips

G1000 is fancier but a bit more complicated. I'm still getting used to everything being on one screen unlike in the SR20 with the Avidynes.
