▬ ABOUT US ▬
We are Rich & Kathie, a retired couple building our dream home: A SUPER ENERGY EFFICIENT OFF GRID earth sheltered home in the Adirondacks!
The house will be covered with about 30" of soil which helps to maintain an internal temperature between 45 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit in winter & summer respectively. This means that in the winter we will only need minimal heat that we plan to provide with a small wood burning stove and we shouldn't need any air conditioning in the summer at all!
With inflation right now, the energy efficiency of this house is a HUGE Plus! But, it also means that we have a super tight budget that is getting tighter by the day. For this reason we DIY everything we reasonably can and find creative ways to save money such as repurposing.
Please subscribe and join us to see how we manage the challenges of staying in budget and exactly how energy efficient this house actually is when it is done!
We appreciate all your support :-)

Hey Chief, I live in Florida, 20 years now, but I'm from upstate, Leather stocking region.. Amsterdam to Little Falls Zone, grew up in Tribes Hill. Good video, y'all reminded me of the cold, mud, snow, ice, but it's pretty, reasons why I moved. I do miss it, but now I'm putting one of these up for both my motorcycles and year round riding . .. Pinellas Point, St Pete Florida.. stay warm

Nice! Definitely more year round action down there. Our kids are in ormond beach and Ocala. They love the warm weather but we love winter! Go figure. Good luck with the shelter and enjoy 👍
That tarp looks nice and heavy duty 👍

It’ll do the trick!
Looks good. I like the vent. Sorry to hear that the other shelters cover didn't last. UV destroys everything. But the frame is still good. After the green cover on my shelter wore out from the UV rays, I was able to get a translucent cover from a different manufacturer and turn it into a greenhouse. It worked great for many years. I paid $125 for the translucent cover and 2 new translucent doors. That was about 16 years ago. My son still has that old shelter and uses it for storage. The translucent cover is still on it, but he has it covered with a tarp because it started getting pin holes and leaking after about 10 years. Getting the snow load off is critical. Also, I screwed all the couplings together and added an additional pipe on each side to make it more structurally rigid and wind resistant. Several hurricanes later, my frame is still rock solid. Good luck with it! I hope you guys have a wonderful and relaxing Christmas!

Great idea for the frame and can’t believe how long it lasted! Wow! We were thinking of covering ours with some lightweight metal roofing … it’s on the list for the future. It definitely will need more support though. Merry Christmas and happy new year 😁😊👍

Thank you my friend. Merry Christmas
I used one of the name brand tarp shelters as a wood shed for 4 years. They have their niche. I like some of the changes that Vevor made with the framing of yours. Good luck.

Not bad! Longevity will be the key factor, as well as our Adirondack snow loads. Merry Christmas to you and family.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Nice shelter. We've been looking for something to cover our UTV during the non-winter months when it lives outside.

Thanks. We were tired of trying to finagle the atv cover on and off so we completely understand 👍
Great review Rich!

Exactly 😂 and thanks👍
I hope it doesn't end up orbiting the earth like my Amazon greenhouse.😀 No fault with the product, but with the storms we are getting.... here in the maritimes we have had two (Dec 11, 18) storms with high winds and the associated damage. Merry Christmas! 🙂👍👍🇨🇦🌲🎅🎁

I hope so too! Lol it’s happened to us before. That rebar works good here though so… should be good 👍😁
Very nice. I might be living in one of those next month. 😞

Oh no! I hope everything works out for the best!
The field mice will enjoy that shelter Not sure i'd worry about storing cement mixer in the shed probably just throw heavy plastic bag over the electric motor and have to be the end of it.

The mice will love it😁
Nice video! Ordered same one on Amazon Seems nice for the money but during assembly I have found that the tarp cover that goes over the top is short and does not completely pull over the front and the back only one side or the other. I've been trying see if it's the way I assembled but I keep thinking I have the wrong topper for a smaller size. The frame only assembles one way and clicks together easily I messaged Vevor and the told me from my pics I need to pull it tighter over the edges lol. That's the problem is I can't because there's not enough m material to do soo. Hope to find resolution is already assembled and would be too much hassle to return so I'll probably have to go to Hardware store and buy another tarp to cover it. Anyone have any feed back on this? Thanks 👍 😊

Hmm, we had ours positioned wrong the first time but it didn’t need any stretching. Great little shelter though. Hope you get it figured out.
Y'all from Maine? Or NH? Sounds like a new England accent. I'm from Maine so I understand your snow problems lol

Lol, great guess! We’re in the Adirondacks of NY 😊
How well do you think it would hold up with 40mph winds?
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid

It held up great! We actually had up to 60 mph just the other day and power was out everywhere and it’s still there👍 we were pleasantly surprised but we also think using the rebar helped alot

May I ask you why you own a garage and continue to deal with tents?
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid

Yes! Because we are still building our house and we’re using most of the garage to store our stuff. The other part has our ‘shop’ tools, wood, etc. stored as we continue to build.
