@@HeyMomonia I am Albanian. There is zero evidence this song is that old or that it is Albanian in origin/ In fact it is laughable to suggest a pre-Ottoman origin. But then again we are the same people that claim Moj e Bukura More is 700 years old At best it was a poem then(and even then it is doubtful) since the melody is way too modern for 1300s not to mention there is no evidence of musical notation or anything like that. If you want to listen to what music sounded like in 1300s listen to Guillame de Machaut(particularly Je vivroie liement), the melody is so much simpler than Moj e Bukura More but most Albanians(including you) are so ignorant and think that a bunch of Arbereshe peasants wrote such an advanced song in 1300s and that it somehow went unnoticed in Italy at the time. Just laughable.

If you search deep for albanian songs that don't sound Ottoman influenced or anything middle Eastern/West Asian sounding, only few examples show up but the ones that do are very similar to this. Heavy emphasis on isolated beautiful vocals with a slower tempo and strong melodies to drive home emotions. But like you said, they have very simple melodies and simple instrumentation. That's why it's more likely that this indeed is a pre ottoman song that has been enhanced significantly from Albanians that migrated to Italy centuries ago and were influenced by their musical advancements. The same way folklore is passed down through word of mouth and changes through the generations, it's not difficult to believe that the first rendition of this song in the 1300s was most likely not very impressive but after surviving long enough to experience the natural evolution and advancements of music, it most likely was enhanced into what we hear in this video. Also as mentioned in the description of the video, a select number of Albanians migrated to Italy during the initial Ottoman invasion and any remnants of ancient Albanian culture went with them. It's most likely why you can't find any evidence of this kind of music amongst Albania's culture today (Ottoman culture significantly wiped out Albania's own over the centuries) but you can most likely find it if you dig deep enough through Italian and Arberesh history. The Arberesh have long since integrated themselves fully into Italy's history and heritage and any evidence of this originally being Albanian was more than likely lost forever besides word of mouth (as most things in history are unfortunately.)

@@bardhi09 the melody doesn’t matter, it may have been updated with the time, of course people back then sang without musical instruments or only 1 instrument. We are not claiming that the song was sang exactly like this. Only Albanians are told to bring proof of something, the proof is in the text, the land of Morea isn’t called Morea since those times, so a modern Arberesh couldn’t know that that land was once called Morea, now it’s called pelepones. But you are probably a serb with a fake Albanian name.

Anyone here has ever heard a song that did not understand the lyrics of it, but became fascinated just by its musicality ? This is one of them ! And, for me being a huge admirer of everything Albanian, this is as perfect as it gets ! One can shut his/her eyes and let the sound do the rest... I soo wish to know the origins of this song. It marries in perfect harmony Tosk and Gheg dialects and it wraps it with a colorful bow and it send it to travel thru the ethers. BTW, I am Albanian as it gets; the only reason I write this message in English, is to increase its reach and someone's curiosity to learn more about our great and ancient culture ! It is so interesting listening Arbereshe's song ( Italy) and Arvanite's songs( Greece). Even though the dialects are more than 600 years old, we still can understand them, despite the fact that I'm from North Albania and having different dialects. I must add that Arbereshe's dialect is a bit more harder than Arvanite's one, due to the fact that Arvanites and Albanians of Albania were in close contact until Greek Revolution when Greece decided to block Arvanites tongue to carry on, while Arbereshe were on their own without close connections to Albanians of Albania.

Greece didn't start blocking the Arvanitic language by force until the fascist dictatorships in the 20th century. Unfortunately it continues to do so even though it's allegedly a "democracy" now. Aren't we all.

Umut Çengel It is nice to you to show sorry for what Turks did to our ancestors. I guess the reason behind this is that Albanians are the most freedom fighting people and they were the last to fall in Balkans and this happened only when Skanderbeg died and nobody was able to replace him as a leader. Albanians are the only fighters of Balkan Peninsula and they were causing too much trouble to Ottomans. The Balkanic War started simply because Albanians rebelled to Turkey and they took Shkupi(Scopje) in their hands, and our neighbours smelled fears that Albanians were getting their freedom and land back, so all of them joined to fight Albanians. All against us.Our Balkan neighbours always have been and still are scared of us. They know we are very strong people and that we are legjitimite in our lands. But as another commenter mentioned it, Turkey would help us showing all documents about Balkans. They know very well where Albanians lived. Anyway,Turkey has been friendly to us since Ataturk times. There are 7 millions Albanians living in Turkey and they create a strong connection to both our countries. Cheers from an Albanian!

This seems like it was sung in an old Archaic form of the Gheg dialect as I noticed most of the words are short and it sounds like a northern song but I could be wrong?!

It is actualy Tosk diakect. Arbereshe are the same people as Arvanites. Arvanites is being calles from Greeks. Arberi, arvani, arvanites. Greeks the B called V. Gegh is Dardans, the high bass sound. Actualy Skanderbeg is the one who made Geghs and Tosks joined together

I think this ballad is sung in tog dialect, well since gheg dialect has a deeper accent than the tosk one
