I just walked in the store and picked up my gateway and left. That was my introduction to Verizon home Internet.

Where do you live, because where I'm at I had to have it sent by mail. None of the stores here have the equipment. When the first modem broke, it took three days for the new one to show up. In Augusta GA.

i just got mine a few days ago and it is working pretty good so far. The only reason I got it because it was cheaper than my regular Xfinity internet. By the way since I did cancel my contract with Xfinity, Verizon will pay up to $500 on the cancellation fee. All I had to do was upload my bill to Verizon and they took care of it.

I bet it was a firmware update to your box. It has to turn off and install the latest firmware, (which can take like ten minutes). Thanks for the six month update. Like you, I still love the service and have no complaints about anything. I can see the tower from where I live. And have incredible speeds. I don’t know if the subscribers are at capacity at this tower. I wonder if it will ever affect my speeds. It has not so far. And like you, I live in a very congested residential area of CA. Michael

Hi Michael, thanks for the message! Yeah, firmware update is possible. It's weird because the "software version" as reported by the gateway's web portal is still 222656. Yet, I have noticed some changes in the interface, notably, the hack to get it to display the signal strength bars no longer works. I wonder if they are updating firmware somewhere else without updating the version number...

I have had the Verizon 5G Home Internet for about a year, and I will take it anytime over the lovely Spectrum alternative. The only issue that I have with it deals with the location. I thought it was just me, but Verizon says that it is system-wide. For some reason, it doesn't use the location of the nearest cell tower, and that totally screws up all "helpful" websites that use the location to prefill fields on their website. In the space of a day my laptop/iphone/ipad can think that I'm in 3-4 different cities. I constantly have to change zip code/addresses/whatever to see local information. But - that is better than the cost and outages from alternatives.

I'm on my second modem after three months. ( have the service now for about five months ) Took three days to get the new modem. ( can't pick up at any store here in Augusta GA ) Speeds have been ok, but we have the 300 to 1 gig plan and the best we get is about 200.( 130 to 150 on average ) We asked what's up and they said we would be lucky to get even 300 in our area. Wish they would have told us that when we signed up would have got the plan below which is the speed we get anyway. Gaming is a bit of an adventure, very laggy a lot of the time. So if you game at all, this could be an issue.

I've had Verizon for 20 years in various forms. I just moved from NYC to Chicago & I had FIOS before, which was amazing, but it's not available in Chicago. I got 5G wireless home internet after moving because I had to cancel my Fios anyway & I didn't have time to research. BIG MISTAKE! The download speed is ok around 300mbps..but upload today was 0.15. I work remote from home & have to upload graphic files which are huge. Even at 20 for uploads, it took 45 min to send a 17MB email. Dropbox doesn't like it either. I've had it 5 days...I can't work with the upload speed situation. I've gotta go back to wired. Also it's only $10 less than FIOS was where I was clocking over 900mbps...which I don't think I was even paying for that high speed. Verizon is also very confusing. I could NEVER see my internet/cable info online with FIOS & now that I have 5G internet...same thing...everytime I went to click the link they sent, it's broken or I don't have "access".

@@charliehermes7886 I should have mentioned that Passthrough mode will only help if you're using an external router with the unit. If you're using the onboard Wi-Fi router, Passthrough mode will shut off Wi-Fi, which is not what you want. If you're using the onboard router, you might need to talk with your company about appropriate gateway settings for the VPN... Let me know what happens!

Hi Rob, Hmmm, that is a modern router so it should go full speed... If you are using Wi-Fi, try using Ethernet just to make sure it's not a Wi-Fi issue. If already testing using an Ethernet device, try putting the 5G gateway in passthrough mode: www.disablemycable.com/blog/wifi-router-verizon-5g-home-internet-gateway/ - Brian

Hi Keith, I use an external Wi-Fi router with my Verizon gateway, so there are no such limits. I've read that the Verizon gateway is limited to 10 devices on 2.4GHz and 30 devices on 5.0GHz. I think I have about 12 devices connected at any one time. If you have any issues, just use your own Wi-Fi router. Here's how to connect it to your gateway: kzread.info/dash/bejne/n6VrpJamk5jZgag.html

Just watched your video on your original sign up for the Verizon 5G Home Internet, and then your follow up several months later. I have to agree about the problems with signing up to set up a new account. I also do not have Verizon phone service or any other connection to the company, so this was a brand new account for me also. I think the problem partly is that they hand out a phone number linked to the box based on one that was recently canceled in your local area (in my case area code 720 in Denver). Until I got the box and turned it on (very simple as you noted), the website still seemed to be hung up with information from the prior holder of that phone number. Finally, after I activated the box, I was able to get the website to recognize my phone number information, get a password set up, bank account etc. as you related. Perhaps they should instruct new accounts to wait until they have turned on the box before trying any account set up instead of sending me numerous emails - get your account activated, do this to acknowledge your sign up, etc. - none of which worked until the phone number was released to perform its new role (at least that was my impression). Thank you very much for your analysis, we replaced very slow wired DSL through the phone company, that was reliable but only up to 20MBS and no hope of major improvement (ie no fiber coming to our area).
