Wunderschöne und lebhafte open-air Aufführung dieser romantischen und großartigen Oper mit herrlichen Stimmen aller genialen Solisten und gut harmoniserten Stimmen der ausgezeichneten Chöre sowie gut vereinigten und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen aller Instrumente. Die ebenso geniale kanadisch Dirigentin leitet das perfekt trainierte deutsche Orchester in verschiedenen Tempi und mit möglichst effektiver Dynamik. Alles ist fantastisch!

Paused to write here what a marvel Demuro + Rebeka's duo before her Ah fors'è lui. Guess I'll cherish this video more than I first thought, and didn't even yet hear Thompson's "Giorgio G.". Indeed tremendous Hampson's 2nd act. Huge, huge. What a version this will be for me, goodness! Unforgettable conducting as well 💎 (btw, with such a "Flora" one will search to know what she says to her "Barone" & the context (3rd act). Never heard such a seizing text account b y a l l! The duet: "Un di felice" is introduced by a sixteenth note in the written score. It is assigned the word "Un". Verdi SIGNIFICANTLY does this in order to provide us with the psychological impact on Violetta's decision to abandon her heretofore hedonistic life and join Alfredo in their quiet country abode. Most, if not all, tenors miss this subtle message when they start the duet. This issue is the key to our understanding of the relationship between the lovers.

Angelo is the Italian term for angel. There does not exist Angela. Same as there is an Angel and not angeless, or there is in German ein Engel and not eine Engelin. So it doesn't matter if female or male. She is PURA siccome un Angelo, and he would be PURO siccome un Angelo

Now, in my later life, I have come to love opera but The storyline is the same for all, unrequited love and death.

So after the Brindisi and other arias, the audience goes wild and applauds like crazy. So why don't they do this in classical orchestral concerts? I've been to concerts where, for example, the pianist finishes the first movement of Brahms #1 and at the end of all the drama, the audience just sits there in uncomfortable silence. Concert goers should take a cue from opera goers and applaud when moved. Gotta admire her articulation in those runs in that Act 1 aria.

I agree! It is almost like "political correctness" gone mad when audiences want to express the emotions that have been fantastically created by the artists for their benefit but are stifled, even muted, by those who seemingly didn''t similarly feel anything. Are they the same people who advocate waiting until the end when the comedy act has finished, until they laugh??

It'd take a whole lot of top notch classical artists advocating this position for it to change, I suppose... unless either enough concert-goers revolt in large numbers, or the famous "graying" audience gradually goes to their great concert halls in the sky and a new generation ( if there is one) is less stiff.
