Venus Flytrap Terrarium Update & Maintenance
It's spring, which means it's the perfect time to do maintenance on my terrariums! I've been meaning to do this for a few weeks and since it was finally time to get the Venus Fly Trap Terrarium going again, it was the perfect time to make this video.
As you saw the majority of the terrariums are still doing well. I'll most certainly do videos on the redos when the time comes. Also I know I'll get questions about them, but all of the other terrariums I didn't show in this video as still doing really well. I only showed ones in this video that needed maintenance or redone.
I'm sure that there's more I could say, but I'll let the video do all of the talking. Also, as promised, here's the link to the Terrarium Builds Playlist. Again if you want to learn how to build any of the terrariums you saw in this video, then this is the place to go!

It's finally that time! I've been getting so many questions about the VFT Terrarium. It's spring, so it's finally time for the update. We'll follow up with it again in a few months. Also, just because I know I'll get questions about them, all of the other terrariums I didn't show in this video as still doing really well. I only showed ones in this video that needed maintenance or redone. Anyways, enjoy the video!

Please can you make a terrarium similar to the VFT but maybe with a mix of carnivorous plants... maybe: drosera capensis, fly traps, saracania (pitchers).

Hey I just made my own and am worried cause I saw a tiny clear worm that almost looks like a nematoad, I have 2 garden variety millipedes, 1 garden variety worm and 5 isopods, should I be concerned for them? Idk what type of nematoad so of course am not sure what to do
I think it's silly for people to be upset with you maintaing your terrariums. You're trimming dead growth, paying attention to the health of the plants, and overall just keeping balance!! Terrariums are a simulated ecosystem, they're not perfect, so they're going to NEED oversight to be healthy and happy, particularly because of limited space and how plants dont really know that they should.... stop growing. You do amazing work with your terrariums and you keep them beautifully healthy. People should respect your passion and skill with this craft, rather than harping on you for treating your terrariums differently and actually caring for their needs!!

The reason I wish that he wouldn't do the maintaince on at least some of them is because I found this channel after extensive searching that all started with the 40 plus year old biosphere that is now in a museum that has never been opened and is still thriving. The most interesting part of this channel to me is the idea of a self sufficient biosphere like the earth that could last forever with only sunlight if it wasn't for external interference. Creating a world that many organisms will thrive in long after I'm gone is an interesting way to live on after death definitely more interesting than a short lived house decoration.

TCUty 10 All terrariums need maintenance unless you put very specific types of plants in it. How about you try doing one yourself if you’re so confident.
I love the look of the driftwood in the five gallon terrarium!! I think it looks so nice because it breaks up the solid green coloring, and adds something lighter and softer that makes the whole composition more interesting.

I'm glad you like the addition! I too think it helps add a lot of interest to the scape.
I really think people that don’t do maintenance are both haters and lazy... you HAVE to do maintenance bro... I have only been doing terrariums, vivariums and paludariums since I’ve been watching your videos... and that’s been over a couple years now... I do maintenance as often as needed and they are all in great shape like yours... when it comes to these artistic projects I leave nothing to chance and have been doing everything by the ways of @SerpaDesign as far as I’m concerned your advice is the gold standard of all things terrariums...
@SerpaDesign

Yeah dude I agree with you on most of those points. Why leave it up to chance if you can pretty much have guarantees success with 5 mins worth of work? You know I'm in the game of making successful terrariums and want the same for my viewers. Like I told someone else, it's the "terrarium purists" as I've called them. They think it should remain closed permanently or it's not a terrarium. Anyways, I'm glad yours are still going well. 💪

Terrariums are an art form, and just like any other, I think you should be bale to do it however you want. If you want to leave it to chance and never open your terrariums, that's fine. You do you. If you want to do maintenance every couple of months, that's perfectly fine too. I think you should be able to do it however you want, and never judge others for how they do it.

Your terrariums are looking beautiful
I keep my carnivorous plants outdoors because it's so much easier than trying to keep them indoors, but that looks like a workable VFT terrarium since you give it a winter dormancy. Thanks for mentioning that, so many people don't realize they need that! I just did all the spring maintenance on mine, I love the new shoots coming up.

The stuff I originally subscribed for! Great stuff as always.
I’ve recently made my first terrarium and it’s doing well! Thanks, Tanner!
Love your channel so much you have such a nice personality, and I love that you go over the problems and failures as well as all the successes, it helps us learn from you even faster, and shows people not to get discouraged because if it can happen to someone as good as you, then the rest of us can and should learn to take it in stride.
Love it!!! Since watchingyour videos I’ve been making vivariums and creating terrariums! As well as culturing my own springtails and isopods! Such a fun hobby! Thanks for sharing with us all!
Don't worry about critics, people like myself can easily appreciate all these expressions you create in glass containers! You've inspired me to make a terrarium, that surely negates the words of any critic when it comes to how your art impacts others... I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been inspired by your work :)
Love the content you provide us with , as well as the education behind all of it , i THOUGHT that i had knew enough about terrariums on my own , but dang after watching your videos i’ve really been shown proper care in keeping the functionality of the terrarium safe. Thank you for just being an awesome and interesting person with a lot of great content and awesome projects! Love and support always from me and my family to you and yours! 😊
I like a maintenance video. I’m now on the lookout for a glass container I like to start my first terrarium.
The Venus flytrap terrarium is looking amazing, as are most of the others, and I agree with you doing maintenance, I haven't done it with mine yet, some have died because of it, and others are just beginning to grow.
Loving it, so calming and creative. These videos do a lot for me, really bringing me down to earth.
I for one really like how you do maintenance on your terrariums.
Yes yes yes!!! Loved it man! Inspiring and encouraging for keeping at it to achieve the best look!
For me, terrariums are absolutely amazing and I would like to make my own one day! This video was really helpful with dealing with maintenance so I can take care of it.
Love the fly trap terrarium. As always thank you for the content :-) , this is the first thing I look forward during weekend
Great variety! Such cool and creative ways to keep a host of terrariums. Thanks for sharing them with us
I have learned two things from you right off.. regular trimming and a clean glass. Makes perfect sense but I never thought of doing that..thanks
You've inspired me to do a terrarium. I love your videos and have been watching for about a month now! Keep up the inspiring work. Thank you!!
You make a really nice pieces of art, beautiful!!!
Love the clean up and changes. Great job!
Hi Tanner! Congrats on buying a house! I'm considering trying a terrarium and your videos are very inspirational. TFS!
Hey Tanner, can you talk a bit about what you keep in your tool box? Perhaps a bit about where you got the items and what you would consider a good starter kit? Thank you so much

I love the calming effect of vidoes like this! Just found your and wish I would have way sooner! Your organization and video quality are top notch! Thank you for the hard work it shows! I think a desert themed terrarium would be really cool! Sand, cacti 🌵 and a cave! To cool!
I like having the ecosystem run itself and just see how it all ends up, although I do have one decent sized one I maintain like you do to make it look nice and well kept- living art. Keep going I love your content.
I’ve been waiting for the Venus fly trap update! It honestly doesn’t look as bad as I would expect! Mine just came out of dormancy those small plants grow back bigger and stronger!💪 great vid!
I'm literally here for the venus flytrap
Love it, cant wait to see you redo some of them
Can't wait to see the flytrap one bounce back! Great stuff as always man

I love these dude, you're the bomb. Any tips when making first aquatic terrarium? I hope your channel explodes in subs, God bless you my guy!
keep up the maintenance, never upset 👍
Wow! New subscriber. I like this hobby! I really respect your attention to projects that aren't working out. You're not only displaying some humility, but providing solutions. Not everything works out, but nature will rebuild. Thanks dude.
Love your videos. This is so informative as well!
Very nice. Thank you for the updated Venus flytrap terrarium. Ive been patiently waiting because I want to do my own. :D
That flytrap terrarium is awesome! Almost all temperate carnivorous plant terrariums I have seen have failed because of like you said the lack of dormancy or Inadequate lighting, great job!
Hi! Great job ! I love terrariums ! So thnks for your video !

I’ve beeen waiting for this one. Yippeeee
I'm looking forward to seeing the next update. You inspired me to start a terrarium. It's not amazing like yours but I am happy with it.
This makes me excited to try a VFT terrarium
I have always loved terrariums I think you are very good at them I enjoyed this video

Wonderful beautiful work!😍
They all look really good! I scored a 2.5 gallon terrarium bowl today at a flea market, and also found a clear glass plate to fit the top there as well then I picked up some plants for it on the way home. Thanks for the inspiration! BTW I grew up with terrariums, my mom and grandmother always had one or two.
I'm glad to see that the fly traps made it!!!! I bout a plant recently and will be happy to make a home for it sometime soon!
these are beautiful! keep up the good work!
Just a quick note that I love the channel (and watch it instead of the news...) Thanks so much.
They are doing amazing overall!
Love your videos man!
Veri good video, interesting and beautiful.
I love these, I really want to make one.
Beautiful - great work!
You are SO talented !!
I’m glad they made it through the winter. They do look a little etiolated; they basically want as much light as you can give them. But I’d really love to see this terrarium in full growth, and know how much light they’re getting. When I grow them inside I keep them about 10” from LED or T5 fluorescent tubes. I’m with you on maintaining terrariums. It’s the nature of the beast. We aren’t creating real chunks of nature; I’d compare it more to gardening or even Japanese gardening where we work to create natural beauty in miniature. And if you’ve ever seen how intensively Japanese gardeners maintain their landscapes...!
Looks nice. Good work.
What a great creative hobby! Kudos to you my friend!
Now I wanna make my own terrariums but I really have little patience and maintenance so...maybe I'll just watch for the time being lol. Love your works!
Hiya, Tanner! I came up with a terrarium idea that I'm gonna be doing, and I think it'd be interesting to see you do it as well. Instead of planting it normally, I'm gonna be sprinkling in some birdseed and just watching it grow. Obviously, it'll requite a lot of maintenance in the first few months until it gets itself well established, but I think it's a unique idea and I just wanted to make you aware of it. :)
by far my fave terrarium update vid
Great! Thank you for the updates.
I used to not like the idea of terrarium maintenance but after my first terrarium that i did not maintain i finaly relized why we need to clean them every now and then, and also it is a good time to edit your terrarium and make changes in the time that you are cleaning them
Awesome! Thank you for sharing

Please keep us updated on the venus flytrap terrarium!!!
