I had a customer bring me a vending machine to make keys for a while back. It had a FR2 key and a Tubular key just like this one. It brought back memories

Cool video Jason! Before ever beginning with tubular locks, I always give it a shot of lube. Tubular locks are oriented such that they always catch a bunch of dust or just get dry. A shot of lube and working in with a blank works a treat!

You definately have a different approach than me. I always read and file with the wafers in their relaxed position. Different approach but the result is always what matters. I still prefer the rats tail for expedient results. Money for jam:-)

When I get the tubular lock turned I measure the pick once then I put it back in the lock and hold it between pin chambers, 1/16 turn, then reset the pick down onto the pins to get a better reading on the pick. I don't get using that clipper tool when you have a code machine right there.

i picked one of these for my sister and it pissed me off i got the top locks with no problem but the back one was a pain in the butt , long story short i had it picked in like ten min. but did not know it, because it would not open, i kept thinking the lock must have to turn more, i worked on it for like three nights, turned out it was glued shut by old melted candy gooo not pretty! she also got a old vintage one with the glass jars that was open but the locks where damaged by the other owner shoving a screw driver in it. so i removed the wafers so she could still use the lid, it still looks like it is locked and they still screw down to hold firm, at lest till she can find replacement locks .

damn tubular locks, they make me too tired, they are a little pest in the life of the locksmith😂

I can never get the sparrows wrench like that to work either... the sparrows mantis is even worse. But the goat wrench thing that lock noob created and is sold by sparrows now works a bit better. I have way more luck with the impression tool though.

it says patent pending on the case, i wonder if they ever got their patent? and if they did why didn't they update the letters on the box?

Wouldn't it have been quicker and thus cheaper to pick the locks, remove them, replace them with new locks with matching keys, and called it a day? The locks and keys are like $25 online and for $35 you can get a new barrel lock and key with included.

@@selock I'm not a locksmith. I have a Venstar 3000 and no keys... I don't have the tools or knowledge you have. It's not worth me spending $50 with a locksmith to have them make new keys and reset the tumblers, although saving the original locks is appealing. I'm just trying to out to knock out the old locks and put new ones in. I am impressed with your skills though. I'm just tryign to take a toss our machine and make something for my little man cave on a low low budget.

gary johnson also (since you seem special by bouncing into the channel to comment about how a pair of pliers are used) I will notate they are technically just called Cap Pliers or Dust Cap Pliers to be exact, not “de capping” but thank you for special comments. I’m honored to be blessed by a god of tool use.

If I was selling some candy from a little machine, let me ask 'yall. What type of candy would you sell. I have paid for MM's, Skittles, but that's in my area. I remember when I was a kid at the arcade, I bought a giant bubble gum ball for 25 cents. Then this little 5 year old girl, (race not important), stole my bubble gum. Of course it costed me 25 cents but I was like, "OK!". So I put another quarter in the machine but kept an eye on her. What can I say, kids steal. Not me as a kid, but you gotta watch out for the other kids.

Ken _ well, after working on these often and seeing age of candy I’m hesitant to buy out of many unless the machine looks new and in a heavily used area. Skittles, M&M’s and the little square gums are probably what I would put in one of these if I had one

Don't you clean keys with a wire brush after keys cut? Any key cut leaves bur end.
