When they had the whole cast on the late night talk shows as the final season was winding down, it's a shame that they didn't invite the actress who played Minna. I feel bad for her.
As a Finn, I love this. So accurate. The actress really captures our direct awkwardness, lol

I find it strange that they didn't find an actual FINN to play a FINN. But this does follow the age old rule that whenever Finns or Finland are depicted in a series or movies, it always have to be kinda "off", like the people cannot really crasp what Finland is like.. There might be a Finn with a horrible Swedish or German accent, or in this case; with I-have-no-idea-what-this-is accent. Otherwise, a great show.

@@Leechwife Not at all! I loved Smack the Pony but it ended in 2003. More recently she starred in Parents, but that was only 1 season. I'm in the US, so it's likely she's been in a lot of shows that haven't made it over here.
"Americans have a much greater body mass index than the Finns". I love any episode with Minna, she was hysterical.

MnikM doesnt make sense how? Are u american? If u are, then it’s very easy to understand the joke. Finnish usually take everything literally. Here’s an example, “hi mr. watson”. then mr. watson, whose full name is john watson, who wants to establish some kind of proximity with the other party as in tries to be friendly instead of formal, says to the other person “call me john” instead of mr. watson. he means next time dont be so formal with him, but this person takes that literally and actually CALLS him john right at that moment. thats the joke.

It's one of those shows where the writing was so strong, they could never tell which lines would really hit.
Sally Phillips is a comedic genius too. These scenes with two of them are unbelievable.

hilariously i think Minna thinks they're "close as sisters" because Selina had called her a dear friend earlier. which was of course just political bs, but Minna took it at face value as she always does.

@@seraphiki heard a theory Minna treats Selena so well because of that interaction. Minna assumed Selena didn't have any other friends so she acts like her friend to stop her from killing herself.

I love Taskmaster, in addition to a number of UK based shows. I wish someone in the US could sucsessully "adapt" (steal) those formats. I think James Corden tried, but he was better off singing in his car.

Perhaps my favorite guest character on the show. Which is saying a lot, because the show has a lot of great guest characters. Her so-called "friendship" with Selina is just funny to watch.

I'd buy it. Favourite line is when they're on the jet and Selina says she "belongs in an institution" referring to her library and Gary automatically says "it was a spa"

@@mrbgay45grey49 Its semi-true :D as Finland and other nordic countries have really good system that helps people bounce back, and in Norway it is almost impossible not to succeed, you'll be taken care of in many many ways. Whereas in USA.. well if u poor then you're totally fucked :(

My favorite part about their character arc is that in the beginning Selina wants minna to publicly say they’re friends, because that’s how politics work in America. Then later minna does see her as a good friend and Selina wants no part of it hahaha.

Shinkajo. Besides the language Finns doesn't differ much from the rest of Scandinavia. Everyone seems to forget that Finland was a part of Sweden for 600 years and that Finland kept much of that common heritage during the Russian occupation. The retracing of unique Finnishness came with romantic national ideals in the end if the 19 th century. Also Finns are the biggest immigrant group in Sweden and there is no way you could tell their ethnical background besides a small accent.
Sally Phillips is brilliant in everything she's in!

That seems very doubtful to me, the show was created by and the writing room heavily staffed by english comedy writers. Almost certainly she was their choice, right?

I’ve seen like a handful of episodes of Veep but I’m crying laughing at this video. They’re interactions are gold and so funny
I'm a Finn and I'm shocked to find out that this actress IS NOT Finnish?! She nails the accent in a way that it's not overdone, but just relatable as someone who speaks fluent English but struggles at pronouncing certain type of syllables. The mannerism and even her looks are on point.
Add the scene where she describes Jonah as the creature who "steals the Christmas presents from the children"

Between the moment I watched VP and now, I fell into British TV, especially panel shows. Sally Phillips appeared several times on Qi and in a series of Taskmaster and I find her incredibly funny and classy. She seems so genuine in her demeanour.
