Vauxhall Grandland FIRST LOOK : Supersized winner or waste of space? | Electrifying

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

#vauxhallgrandland #vauxhall #electriccars
Vauxhall has promised an electric version of every car in its range, and we’ve now seem them all - except one. Now it’s time to see the last piece in its puzzle and the flagship of the brand’s line up - the new Grandland….
Last year, Vauxhall revealed a really pretty concept car called the Experimental. It was a bit too bonkers for production, but there are a lot of the elements which have been translated into this car, the new Grandland.
It’s not quite as swoopy, but it does have a new face of Vauxhalls: a 3D version of the ‘Vizor’ we’ve seen before and an illuminated Vauxhall Griffin logo. These haven’t been legal in Europe before because there was a worry that you might be mistaken for a motorbike, but they now are allowed.
Talking of firsts - the Grandland is the first to use Vauxhall’s new ‘Compass’ design direction, with a sort of hot cross bun effect on the lights and creases at front and rear. Look at the light bars and bodywork.
The Grandland is the first Vauxhall based on the same ‘platform’ as the Peugeot 3008 which Ginny drove a month ago. As a result, it has a very similar mechanical layout. Customers will have two drivetrain choices. The cheapest will have a 207bhp, front motor and a 73kWh battery, giving a range of around 325 miles. A twin-motor, four-wheel-drive will boost the total output to 321bhp but is expected to have the same range, due to its ability to capture more regen energy under braking. Clever. The range topper will have a massive 98kWh battery, taking the range to a whopping 435 miles.
Charging to 80% will take around 26 minutes from a DC rapid charger. There will also be a Plug-in Hybrid offering around 53 all-electric miles of range. And a pure petrol version if you want to be old-fashioned about it….
Join Nicola as she takes a look around the new Vauxhall Grandland. Has Vauxhall built a winner? Would you choose one over a Skoda Enyaq or new Renault Scenic? Let us know in the comments below.

@@oliverstemp9132 Yes it is a very... interesting topic… A well-kept secret on par with the cover-up of UFOs on American bases, is GM's stone-cold ban on revealing how much work Opel did for American GM. GM was afraid that the American brand and the national pride that it was 100 % American designed and developed cars would be damaged, if it came out that it was not true. When Opel worked at its peak for American GM, more than 50 % of the Opel business consisted of designing and engineering, what everyone... in the US thought were all-American products... In fact, apart from the very largest and SUV / pickups and the Corvette and the Camaro, (with the exception of some minor detail such as the steering wheel which is sometimes designed by Opel) - the majority of Chevrolets are designed and even technically engineered in Europe by Opel and not by GM in the US. This task was carried out on behalf of Chevrolet according to Chevrolet's specifications and wishes to suit the American market, but still, it was Opel who did the work. I even have rare photo evidence of how a covered prototype of the new 2016 Chevrolet Cruze being rolled out from Opel Deign, or GM Design Europ As it was then called, because they worked for many GM brands. Sometimes Opel has leaked images where they are working on components for Chevrolet in the background, without commenting on what is going on. There are masked cars that briefly rolled in Europe, but which then appear in some remote part of the US and which then turn out to be a new Chevrolet or Buick. In some cases, they even retain Opel's special camouflage that was not used by American GM. The American prestige project Chevrolet Volt is based on the Opel Astra and around 86 % of the technology was developed and engineered by Opel who also developed the finished car and made everything work Volt appearance and body was designed in the US by Chevrolet, this time only certain components of the visible such as steering levers and the steering wheel came from Opel, transferred straight from Astra, but if you look at the interior and the design of the panel, you recognize that it is an Astra underneath the surface. The entire program and technical development was transferred from Germany to the US for the final work under the direction of Opel engineers and Opel product manager and electric car expert Frank Weber - Now BMW's technical development manager who led the development of BMW's entire electric car program, he was bought over by an impressed BMW right after the VOLT program was finished. The purpose of this was to hide the foreign interference and to market that GM was important to the US and was driving American leadership and American superior technology - for political reasons, as GM received government support during the economic crisis. The fact that the new leading advanced super technology from GM was not... American, could have caused major political problems in Washington. And speaking of electric cars... the famous GM EV1 was entirely based on technology developed by Opel and carried over from the Opel Astra Impulse 3 With a new battery and a new electric motor, but otherwise based on the Astra, that too... You will find one of the preserved EV1s in the Opel museum for this reason. Opel design chief Mark Adams was head of Cadillac design in 2012 and 2013. So, to put it simply, it's Chevrolet and Buick that are rebadged Opel...

That said, I do think Vauxhall have done a good job with this car, and the design tweaks and interior are pushing towards being cool again. Put these designs into a hot hatch and that would be a cool car. BUT, we do not need AI in our cars; in one second you’re saying how great it is that they’ve put things in to reduce distraction, like minimal mode and the slightly unnecessary pixel box, and in the other you’re saying it’ll come with ChatGPT. WHY? ChatGPT etc is just not needed in our cars. And if the argument is that you might use it while you’re waiting to charge, that’s just marketing speak. If you stay in your car during charging you’re invariably using your iPad or laptop, most likely you’re in the services having a pee, and the majority of us just charge at home overnight anyway.

6.24 and I've had to pause the video.... I can't believe I'm liking a Vauxhall, not since the old Vauxhall Astra estate have I seen so much room in one.... Ok back to the video, where's the catch Nicola, range or price or both? Oh my goodness...plus 300 mile range on the littlest! That's amazing if true, can't wait to see you drive it to confirm. The only thing I could possibly find "wrong" with it is they're doing a hybrid version but I don't have to buy that. Wow, we're going to need prizing out of our Ioniq 38kWh but we're always looking for more space for dogs or green-bowls players and their bags! Liked the new Renault Scenic but it is a Renault so we can't have that apparently 😅 This is even better though...I guess you didn't mention a price yet? Ooh excited 😁👍👏👏👏👏 Edited to put a hyphen between green and bowls!

I don't know much about Vauxhall because I live in Japan, but I only lived in England for 3 years, so I only know the name. I have a question, why is this car left-hand drive when the UK is right-hand drive? Are you just changing the badge of the temporary Opel model and putting it out in the media? It would be helpful if someone could tell me. I'm so doubtful that I can't sleep at night, please let me sleep.

Hold on, sorry to point this out. When you said this is the first Vauxhall based on the Pergeot 3008 chassis that's ambiguous. The entire range of Grandland and Grandland X are based on the 3008 chassis. It sound like you saying that this particular car is the only Vauxhall based on the 3008. Very confusing and misleading 🤔

Also I'd like to add... It's good that they fixed the cupholder problem with current Grandlands. For an SUV/Family car, the removeable cupholder design seems very much as a last minute addition. There's not enough, it's not versitile enough for different containers and it's easy to damage and loose. For me it is the poorest point on a Grandland. I can see this new version, they've fixed that issue.

I love this channel but this feels like a sponsored sales video. At the very least some indication of pricing and which of all those features Nicola raved about come on the lower priced variations. A more critical video might also have pointed out that, so far, Vauxhall's electric offerings have been entirely uncompetitively priced, or that Nicola herself has not been able to get near the battery efficiency claims Stellantis have been making for their vehicles.

Some nice touches, inoffensive but still slightly bland. I’d hope it undercuts the e-3008 version significantly on price, otherwise it’ll be a depreciation rocket! The Vauxhall brand doesn’t have the kudos and they need a ‘halo EV’ - maybe a VX or even a GTE?

I'm having a brain crisis recently where I really fancy a nice big car to get all our kids and dogs in etc but I'm not liking other huge cars being on the road and just clogging up the streets and parking spaces. I went to the vets the other day, 6 small cars on one side of the small car park, on the other side, 3 SUV'S slung in the same space. 😞

Looks a bit "meh" compared to the 3008 imo. Some of the interior design ideas are good though. Not a big fan of light-up badges if I'm honest, it'll just become like Vegas or Blackpool when you're stuck in traffic at night - neon car adverts everywhere! Just needs to be a good price which, going by recent Stellantis pricing decisions, is unlikely - at least at launch....

Was this a paid promotion video? Didn’t notice a banner on the video stating so. Suspiciously over enthusiastic for a Vauxhall 1st look. Other than a small ‘scratchy plastic’ mention in the back not one thing wrong with the vehicle? I can imaging that cut out section of the rear bumper leaving some corners exposed could kneecap a few people when loading or unloading the boot!

These first look videos are rarely negative because the whole event is controlled by the manufacturer (so any negatives such as a dodgy infotainment are hidden). Unless there's something catastrophically wrong with the interior or exterior It's not until the first drive review that you really get any idea about how good the car actually is.
