Could it be a cam timing issue. Seems to correct itself when you clear codes running and the back to lean after starting.

Hi Sandy I had a very similar problem with a similar aged Corsa, and it was a faulty purge valve. It had the same lean code rough at idle but cleared at 2000 rpm. Funnily enough it also had a fan code not connected. The fan was partially siezed and had blown one of the square fuses this had caused the other fan to run continuously . Good luck.

Clearing the codes resets the fuel trims, allowing the car the run normally. Once it’s been running long enough for the trims to max out lean it’ll start running badly again.

OK, we have a 13 reg corsa 1.4 turbo with almost 90k on. Same issues with it and finally found what it was after replacing cam cover and pcv which were both knackered also. The inlet manifold has deteriorated so bad at and around the air transfer hole that there was nothing holding in the gasket when under vacuum. Had the same sqealing noise as others. Done a temp repair and all sorted. Second hand ones are very likely to be the same so close inspection is required or a new one is really the best option. Easy enough to remove for those who wish to do it themselves. Hope this helps. Great vids Sandy

Hi can you explain what was at fault. I have p1710 fuel lean.. cam cover is good so is pcv valve. Purge valve also good. Map readings are showing 0/0.01lbs for some reason I cannot change it to grams. When I unplug maf engine still lumpy but Fan kicks in. Gone grey overnight trying to resolve this fault.

Also there is a very tiny little squeak when first started and I think I have located it to the camshaft position actuator can these squeak?. I've heard the seals can leak oil which they don't seem to be on mine.

Very common in the vaccum valve in the rocker cover , if the idle speed alters when you undo the oil filler cap , it's normally ok , loads of vehicles now on air sealed systems , had loads of trouble with Corsa D engine temp wiring to the radiator switch , vauxhall do a repair kit , 2 wires and a new switch / ,not dear and they cause loads of running issues with the wires on the switch rotting internally, good luck Sandy

hi sandy, the fault code p0171 is notorious with the vauxhall petrols, anyhow. I always change the evap purge valve, on the top of the inlet, like you have, if that makes no difference, with engine running take off the oil cap and watch for it trying to pull the oil cap back down creating too much positive crankcase pressure. This is usually caused by the rocker cover housing, dealer part only. also the engine idle speed is a little low, even the desired rpm seems low, I had an astra a few weeks back, where customer had fitted a new coil pack , but car still had fault code P0300 & p0171.and exactly the same rough idle, I fitted a quality coil and plugs, replacement rocker, and then adjusted the idle seed to 850 rpm. I used the launch x431 to adjust the idle speed in increments of 50rpm. and the car was fine, and that job has been out the door for at least 3 weeks ago. Deffo worth trying this without you even spending any money, go into the ecu, adjust idle speed to 850rpm, store it, then see if the fault arises again, and make sure to do an o2 sensor loop reset with the scan tool. and when a MAF is disconnected, your engine ecu reverts back to a "base" set of pre-set values that can basically keep everything running, and into "get me home mode" . That's more than likely why your values that your measuring are improving, when you disconnect it, dont get wrong i have done MAF's on the corsa E models, with the "A" series engines, Hope this helps a little, kind regards kieren

@@sandyande i always look forward to your videos. I'm just currently in the middle of building a corsa c head back up, lol. And also doing an engine swap on a 2009 range rover sport. V8 diesel. Thing is I always take videos and pictures of what I do on cars, Il have to start a KZread channel just dedicated to my business and the jobs I do. It may help someone along the way, and they may help me. Kind regards. Kieren.

That's a strange one, why would the car run better and have improved vacuum after clearing the fault code with the engine running. It's like it's a computer controlled low vacuum fault, rather than a permanent vacuum fault Like you said the MAF looked low when it was running ok after clearing the fault codes. Does it have any pending fault codes in eobd/obd11 after clearing the fault codes with it running. This is an interesting one mate

Hi sandy , I said to myself I wasnt going to comment on your videos because I feel like I'm being a pest. I enjoy your thought process and I was just wanting to suggest 1 thing here on this one. See those rocker covers above the oil cap I believe that's a diaphragm built into the rocker cover and they draw on air, it doesnt always show on smoke machine. Spray some soapy water on it at idle and see if it bubbles. Thanks mate, I'm away now and I'll leave you to it lol

Stephen u can comment any time u like as I need the help!!! I check that valve tomorrow do I just spray soapy water and see if it gets drawn in or is there another method? Cheers sandy

@@sandyande yes it should bubble as the soap gets moved/drawn in the solution, I was told about this a while back on the Vauxhall's as I had a similar problem. If you go close enough you may hear a hiss or put pressure on it and listen for a tone chance, may even see it on live data. It looks like a vacum problem you have so it's worth a shout mate. Audi have a similar set up on the crankcase breather but its separate from the rocker! It doesnt show up on smoke test. Scanner danner actually done a video recently and it was soapy water that proved it plus removing the pipe onto it but you cant do that on this engine

I have had a similar problem with an older VW Polo, not saying this will be the same, but their was a tooth out on a cam (can’t remember which) giving a similar problem.with misfire on multiple cylinders on idle, trims going mad, codes for multiple cylinders misfires, lambda readings out of range (again can’t remember rich or lean) with vacuum readings all shot. I only found it because I followed the first rule of basics if you’re unsure of electrical readings look at basic setups. Yours is an Interesting case study though, hope you find the outcome. Many thanks for sharing. Ps hope Scotland got the rain that needed 😀

pcv maybe sandy. when you disconnect the air flow sensor the ecu will run on default. try doing the live data on the Eobd it will give you a correct reading on the air flow and maf sensor.
