I recently made this decision. Jerven gave me amazing customer support no questions asked when something popped up. They have an awesome warranty and a great history. A normal size Jerven Hunter is equal to the thermal cloak. I think the camo is way nicer on the Jerven. It also comes with the panel flag, a VERY sturdy dry bag, a strap and armings, none of which come with the cloak. I also believe the Jervens are still made in Norway and from what I can tell the Thermals are made in China. Additionally the Jervens are actually available atm where the cloak is only possible in the winter camo 67 insulated. There's no significant difference in the quality of the insulation between them, the main difference is really the lack of arm holes in the cloak and the tie outs being webbing on the cloak and grommets on the Jerven. The Jerven has been worth every cent I paid for it. If money's no exception, in retrospect I'd probably opt for the Jerven exclusive which allows separating the insulation from the tarp.

At least the current version of Varusteleka's Särmä TST Thermal Cloak is sewn in EU, Latvia by Sia GPT, not in China.

Nice comparison video! FYI the Jerven prices have been slashed on their website for ‘black week sale’, not sure for how much longer, but that mini hunter is £174 and the adult hunter £217. That’s the lowest prices I’ve seen for years!

I also have a Jerven thermo hunter (60g/m2) and the SARMA thermal cloak (100g/m2 ). Agree with your synopsis 100%. These thermal cloaks / wearable sleeping bags are the most under talked about pieces of equipment in North America. SARMA or Jerven is much better than a standard bivy.

Hi, I own a Jerven Hunter, and was interested in your opinion and comparison. Alas, after eight minutes of chatting, I didn't learn much more than on Varusteleka's site. Oh yes, the cloak has no eyelets... As for the rest, it's pretty empty. I'm quite sorry.

I agree about the size comparison. Jerven makes several models all the way up to 220x143 (that one weighs 1.9kg). They also make the Skyddet for good dogs like Bruno! N.B. - I hope they include instructions on how to actually get a dog into it…

I only have experience with Jerven. Yes moisture can be an issue since it water tight from both sides of the panel. Ventilation is important and put in time for airing in the morning. If its raining and you pull lots of wet gear inside the Jerven moist will develop. If sunny hang up the jerven with the inside out. Always hang up for try when back home or you can get mold between the layers.
