I'll never forget that night when Vanessa earned the right to sing at the Victorian Top Cats awards night at the ABC studios; absolutely amazing. If I recall correctly she sang two songs. All the performances that evening were absolutely brilliant. Sadly, a backing musician to another singer, used another performers amplifier, changing its settings without letting him know. The poor kid didn't stand a chance to shine due to someone's else's stupidity. To this day I still have Vanessa's performances that night on tape. And whoever recorded this video must have been standing right next to me as I can hear myself at the very end saying - Magnificent. Yes, Vanessa was an absolute standout that night, and continues to do so. Regarding Vanessa's performance at the 2000 Olympics singing Heroes Live Forever; unfortunately, there are no words that do that performance justice.

Actually Diego_Santa, this is my video. My wife just reminded my that I sent the video through to Vanessa. Sadly, over time I lost her contact details. Quite a few years later I saw her perform at the Melbourne Zoo evening concert. Unfortunately, like all musicians the music companies/managers treat performers like Vanessa, Tina, and bands as fodder. I must admit, I would love to see a duet between Vanessa, and Tina; I reckon that would be absolutely stunning. From a historical point of view, I am so glad that this video was unloaded.

I have just had it confirmed by the National Arts who sent me the program for that night. The other song that Vanessa sang was Backwater Blues written by Bessie Smith.

So much power at such a young age.. her tone had so much depth even before getting signed, amazing!

Ravindra she said that it was like 1 year after “Have a look” I think, which I believe was recorded when she was 16, so yeah

Hi Deigo, I have just found the the original video. It goes for 8mins and has Vanessa performing two songs and in my opinion the 2nd song, which I don't recognise, is many ways superior to the Whitney Huston song. Do you want it the video, and how do I get it to you? It's from the 1998 Victorian Top Cats Music awards night held at ABC studios at Southbank for all those who achieved the highest marks in their various element of music; all up there were about 20 odd performances that night.

She said that this was recorded a few years before she signed for her first record, so I would say 1997-1998’ish maybe
