Van Swivel Seat Install | Driver + Pax | Low-Profile | Alpine Mechanisms

In today's video we walk you through our Sprinter van swivel seat install. Why install swivel seats in our van? We want to get as much living space out of our van as possible and the best way we can think to do that is to maximize the seats we already have installed in our van.
And for us, the Alpine Mechanism’s swivel base is an awesome option for Sprinter vans.
There are several swivel seat options available for Sprinters ranging from relatively inexpensive aftermarket swivel bases to pricy factory installed swivels offered by Mercedes.
We chose Alpine Mechanisms because our van didn’t come with factory installed swivels and Alpine Mechanism’s swivel bases have an excellent reputation among Sprinter owners.
There are a couple of reasons for this: They’re very well built (solid, no squeaks or wobble, and they rotate smoothly), they’re easy to operate (just flip the lock pin, slide the seat forward, and swivel), and Alpine Mechanism’s swivels only increase seat height by ½”.
We’re installing our seats in a +2019 Sprinter. Alpine Mechanism’s swivels fit earlier Sprinter models as well. Just note that there are some small installation differences, which are noted in the easy-to-follow instructions that come with the swivels.
In this video you'll find a step-by-step overview of our installation.

Good video! However, if you are installing the driver swivel on a sprinter 144, the parking brake relocation bracket will cause your brake cable to rub against the metal sheeting that surrounds the gas tank. In my install I was so pre-occupied with the grommet that I initially didn't notice the brake cable rubbing cutting into this metal sheet. When installing on a 144 you need to consider actually adjusting the parking brake cable length to make the swivel work

You can use a hot knife which is basically a soldering iron with a number 11 blade inserted in the tip. You can find these at any big box supply store. You'll end up using this tool for other purposes such as basic electronic repair, cutting plastic materials. It's a versatile tool.

You'll love the swivels! Stay tuned on the 4cyl, we'll update how it's handling. We have loaded it down a few times to move all of our stuff between places and it was still peppy. So we're feeling confident it will handle the weight of the build 👍

Looking forward to your heater install sharing as we are leaning toward a gas engine too. Most heater install videos are for diesel engines.

Hi Darren, This is the main downside to the gas Sprinter vs the diesel as the gas engine does not come with an aux fuel line (the diesel does). That said, we ended up having Thermo King install our Espar as we decided it was safer to have a professional drill our gas tank since getting it wrong could result in a fire, etc. The upside is that it was the easiest project we've undertaken:) The downside is that we had to pay for it.

Is there a reason you did not use the battery ground disconnect in the panel next to the gas pedal?
