I was here with my son in the 2nd row, directly in front of Wolfgang. Awesome concert as it lightly rained all night. Although I never met EVH, I can't explain but he took a piece of me when he died. I'm sure everyone who admired him has felt this way. Must be the realization that life doesn't last forever. Forever in our hearts Eddie, we all thank you for the great memories.

"Although I never met EVH, I can't explain but he took a piece of me when he died." That's a symptom of brainwashing. it's not normal or healthy to worship celebrities. You mean absolutely nothing to them and they ought to mean the same to you.

@@brettsmith8956 I do believe you have misinterpreted the original post... Eddie Van Halen inspired "millions" of people, across the globe, to take up playing the guitar, & others who already did, to play better! Music is a part of people's souls. For many, our memories are often wrapped up in some kind of musical soundtrack, whether it's Ed's, someone elses, or a combination there of. We seek out music to celebrate, to mourn & to heal. When that person who made the music to many of your best memories dies, it's a natural feeling of loss & remembrance. And if you are a guitar player, who "studied" Ed's music & techniques for years & years & years...it is indeed for many, like losing a good friend. Music was a part of Ed's soul, it's all he knew & ever wanted to do. He made his music for others to enjoy as much as he did. While Ed certainly did not think of his fans like he would family or close friends, he absolutely knew the impact his music had on them...as it's his fans who made his career & kept it going. Music was everything to Ed, & he fully appreciated anyone who understood & embraced that.

1978....Cotton Bowl Dallas Texas. We all waited in 105F heat until the Sun went down. Watched 12 bands that day at The Texas Jam. Van Halen came on about 8pm and the place went chaotic. I was 20 and my young wife 19. Man what a show. Truly gifted man with his brother. The two others were not bad either. I'll never forget it. Van Halen's 1978 album had come out earlier that year. It blew everyone away.

I always thought of EVH as a classical composer with an electric guitar. Reminds me of VillaLobos (who, a century ago, incorporated harmonics & other subtleties into his compositions) By the way, the ending section of ERUPTION concludes with a very classical compositional gesture. He was special but think of the music he left us RIP🌷🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵

Simply mastery. Look at how good and sharp he became again in 2015. He was loving every second. I had been laid off early 2015 (entire project shut down after millions of dollars and 7 years) and didn't go back to work until September. I was so stupid to not see at least one show as I had the time. I was busy walking everywhere in sandals and riding my mtn bike (in sandals) seeing what was important. Plus selling a mountain of crap I did not need on eBay. I had a severance pay coming too (for months). Why did I miss them?! A regret I can never fix as he is gone, but never, ever forgotten. I've been watching VH concerts, interviews, and videos for a full year now and will never tire of all the content. Sorely missed.

Every time we hear who the "greatest" guitar player ever is, the answer always reverts to Jimi Hendrix for the reasons of respect I suspect however guitar players were stuck in the same rut until Ed hit the scene and completely reinvented playing the guitar. We grew up on him, watched him play, learn from him, envy his technical prowess. There won't be anyone else like him, ever. We were lucky enough to grow up in a time that included Van Halen for us to enjoy. Rest easy Ed, your work here is complete.

I regret not seeing them 2 nights after this show in Mansfield,MA. 8/1/15. Lawn seats were $25 a week before the show. Man. I remember when I first heard Van Halen. I was 9. Believe me when I tell you that the 1st Van Halen song I heard was Unchained. It blew my mind. Even though Eddie didn't do all the crazy things that he did on guitar, this song messed me up. The drop D tuning, the groove. I was hooked. I bought the 1st album and was even more blown away. I was a piano player when I heard this stuff. But I didn't pick up a guitar until I was 15. And trying to learn Eddie was terrifying. I can mumble through it these days. Lol. People tell me that I'm good and crap like that. But, no. This man was absolutely phenomenal. God bless Eddie Van Halen. The greatest Rock and Roll guitar player that ever lived.

Its halftime show at this moment. I switch off the tv and over to my iphone and watch Eddie for a real show. The bs they are showing for the 2021 superbowl halftime show is a bunch of doodoo. But this right here is a real show!!! RIP master of guitar. 🍻

Damn good video if you were even slightly buzzed! I saw them in Tampa in 2012, front row of the upper deck at the other end of the arena. My videos were not good, audio was impossible to understand. Thanks for uploading this. I lived in Maine from May 2016 to November 2021, don't recall any top rock bands playing in Bangor (unless you count KISS). I had to drive to Quebec City (2017) and Brooklyn (2019) to see Iron Maiden but it was worth it.

I saw VH when they were the lead in band for the Grateful Dead at the Cumberland County Civic Center, general admission. Ed did an insane riff and smiled at me with that shit eating grin just feet away from me. Dude is an epic legend, rip I made my way to the absolute front because I saw David Lee Roth doing backflips in a Superman cape and was like... What tf are these shenanigans? Turns out, it was history.

He was a class act. The world is down one hero. We all grew up with his music and went WTF? to his guitar when we thought it was a keyboard? He was a proud man with talent and cannot be duplicated.
