Van Gogh in Saint Rémy de Provence

(Video filmed on site in October 2021).
Let's follow in the steps of Vincent Van Gogh, who lived in Saint Rémy de Provence for a year in the 1880s.
Coming from a tumultuous stay in Arles, the artist checked himself into the hospital Saint Vincent de Mausole. He spent a year there.
From his room in the building, Van Gogh created over 150 pieces, including some of his most recognized ones, before moving on to Paris. At Saint Paul de Mausole, the artist was surrounded by the Provençal scenery that inspired so much of his work.
Since the 11th century, Saint Paul de Mausole has hosted several monasteries where those suffering from mental illness could seek treatment.
In 2021, Saint Paul de Mausole is an original site that combines a cultural center and psychiatric facilities.
I ran two public virtual tours in the vicinity, in Saint Rémy de Provence and the antique site of Glanum, across the street from Saint Paul de Mausole.

Are you sure that's Vincent? Looks a lot like Kirk Douglas... 😊 Merci for another great video.

Salut Vero, thanks for a great video. I was in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence about a year ago, this brought back some marvelous memories. Like you, I walked the road in the heat, luckily it wasn't too far. 🙂

Thank you for a return to this beautiful place. The lavender was in bloom when I was there in late June 2014. So very lovely. Nearby Glanum is definitely worth a visit.

As an artist, this means so much to me, Véro. Merci beaucoup! I’ve read many of his letters…so poignant…and attempted a painting with his color palette and style. He keeps appearing in my artistic life, as he did today with you, and I am grateful. What a wonderful gift. Thank you again. 🎨💛🎨

I’m so grateful to experience this. A girlfriend and I spent 2 nights in St Remy but at the time we didn’t know what it had to offer. I was so disappointed when I realized we had missed this so thank you!
