VAN CONVERSION | Sprinter 144 VS 170 Comparison | Which is right for you?

www.activanconversions.com
Here we look at our Newport 170 and Newport 144 floorplans in a side by side comparison and weigh the pros and cons of each. Hopefully this video can help you visualize the space in both wheelbases and help you figure out the size you want to build as a DIY or professional build. Enjoy!

They're nice professional looking builds but the "170" is the best hands down. I could not image living in a van without a shower and toilet even if I used my gym facilities most of the time. It's a house on wheel and it needs to cover all the bases. Good job.

Shower and toilet feature in lots of 144 builds out there. Just takes more ingenuity. The problem with the 170 is they are heavier which reduces the weight allowance for the conversion and payload, they are harder to manoeuvre around, especially off the beaten track, they dont fit in a standard parking bay, and they grab more attention so anything stealthy is not easy.

Thank you for showing the difference in these two! With similar layouts it's really easy to actually see the space difference. Great video!

Going to convert a 170 into my own mini home. Figured that renting a small studio apartment when working 5 days a week without a family Is a waste of money so I decided to stick all that rent money into my own portable Mercedes sprinter 170 home. The goal is to live in it for at least 5 years wich would still be cheaper than renting a studio apartment home for 5 years.

I have had many vans in my life and to be honest. I love the shorties. On top of that I have been using a 1 ton pick up an arctic fox 811 truck camper for the last six years when all is said and done I’m selling the truck and camper and going back to the van life I have decided on a short wheelbase 4 x 4 V6 Sprinter. The main thing for me is to be able to get off road and be able to sleep comfortably in a van as well as traveling of course I’m going to keep it very simple mostly just a bed and some storage space I like to keep the van open as much as possible my figuring is that it does have a 5000 pound towing capacity so for those winter trips or times when I just want to have more I plan on towing a 15 foot Lightweight travel trailer behind it I figure this gives me more options I can do the simple camping trips and the more extended ones

Stunning build and colors. How are you liking the mix of the blue/gray van color with all the white components in comparison to the white van with the white components/cabinets, etc. inside? I was curious since we did not really see the colored van with the rear and side doors closed from an interior view. Do the colored van doors make the interior feel any smaller?

I’d do the 144 with less counter space in trade for the shower/toilet. Stack the microwave over a sink. That way i’d fit in regular parking spaces when in town anhave a better turn radius. I wonder if the chassis can still accommodate the grey water tank from the 170.

off the cuff: I'm obsessed with two Sprinter 144 chassis RVs. One is 'The Den', by Yama Vans, the other is 'Veda', by Advanced RVs. I'm interested in a hybrid layout, borrowing from both designs. this would take the sliding door side layout from The Den, and the other side's layout from Veda, if that makes sense. Any thoughts?
