VAN CONVERSION | Sprinter 144 VS 170 Comparison | Which is right for you?
www.activanconversions.com
Here we look at our Newport 170 and Newport 144 floorplans in a side by side comparison and weigh the pros and cons of each. Hopefully this video can help you visualize the space in both wheelbases and help you figure out the size you want to build as a DIY or professional build. Enjoy!

They're nice professional looking builds but the "170" is the best hands down. I could not image living in a van without a shower and toilet even if I used my gym facilities most of the time. It's a house on wheel and it needs to cover all the bases. Good job.

Shower and toilet feature in lots of 144 builds out there. Just takes more ingenuity. The problem with the 170 is they are heavier which reduces the weight allowance for the conversion and payload, they are harder to manoeuvre around, especially off the beaten track, they dont fit in a standard parking bay, and they grab more attention so anything stealthy is not easy.
Thank you for showing the difference in these two! With similar layouts it's really easy to actually see the space difference. Great video!
Going to convert a 170 into my own mini home. Figured that renting a small studio apartment when working 5 days a week without a family Is a waste of money so I decided to stick all that rent money into my own portable Mercedes sprinter 170 home. The goal is to live in it for at least 5 years wich would still be cheaper than renting a studio apartment home for 5 years.

Hey, I had the same idea. How did it go?
Thank you thank you grazie mille for mentioning dimensions along the way. Watched 10000 videos on van-build, and you're the only one, Meghan, who's been conscientious enough to give comprehensive measurements! 🙌🏽
144 👍🏼 single bed east to west Put a small shower toilet combo in 🙌🏼
Wow, these are both so incredible !!! I just subbed because I love your style, interior design, footprint and can’t wait to see more. Peace ✌🏽
Thank you! Clear presentation of the two van sizes! 👍
Really nice video, definitely appreciate the comparison.
Love the 170 build, especially the organization on the sides in the back. Super sick!
Great video and both beautiful
I love the 144! For me it’s not a deal breaker no having a toilet and I love that it’s shorter and probably easier to park 😅
Wow, I'm impressed! So well done. Very sharp! I would feel claustrophic in there with such little and few windows. I would want big windows on the sides almost everywhere to have a wonderful view and not feel so enclosed. ButI know you all can make it how one prefers. ;) They are gorgeous!
Thank you so much for making this video 😊
I hv been looking for this video thank god i found it! Lots of my questions are answered now . Thank you so much for helping me out . Wish i can make one from u in a future . Stay safe n stay blessed ❤❤❤
Hello, rookie question here; if you chose the 144 and you create a single bed instead of a queen size, and keep the kitchen area about the same size as is, can't you built a shower/bathroom in there, too?
I love the style of your vans!

...indoor showers are for instaglam!
Interesting to see😚. I think I'd follow the European style on the 144 with the kitchen primarily along the back of the cab and gain back the room for the indoor shower and toilet. Thank you so much for showing us! 🥰
I prefer to 170, nice and clean design. I think you still can optimize 144 with shower/toilet in 144
Wow . These are beautiful
Great looking vans and that shower is beautiful.
I love the looks of the 144 from the outside and even better are the looks of the old sprinter with the bug eyes as compared to new models
terrific video The Activ. I broke that thumbs up on your video. Keep on up the awesome work.

I love this it's very open
Beautiful build, very clean and modern. Would love to see a future van build for families. Curious what kind of materials are used in the build and how that affects the GVWR. The electrical wiring is very clean and nice to see. Impressive, bravo!
Very nice done ✅ Love it .
I like the clean look and open space of these builds! Ideas: add a tinted bubble skylight in the shower for added height =) Yes it changes the solar setup.
Beautiful builds

Shower & toilet is a must. Love the 170
Very very pretty!
It would be so great if the driver and passenger seats swiveled to create more dining/lounging seating. Otherwise really great. Very well thought out
They are both beautiful
Very interesting - thank you
I have had many vans in my life and to be honest. I love the shorties. On top of that I have been using a 1 ton pick up an arctic fox 811 truck camper for the last six years when all is said and done I’m selling the truck and camper and going back to the van life I have decided on a short wheelbase 4 x 4 V6 Sprinter. The main thing for me is to be able to get off road and be able to sleep comfortably in a van as well as traveling of course I’m going to keep it very simple mostly just a bed and some storage space I like to keep the van open as much as possible my figuring is that it does have a 5000 pound towing capacity so for those winter trips or times when I just want to have more I plan on towing a 15 foot Lightweight travel trailer behind it I figure this gives me more options I can do the simple camping trips and the more extended ones
These are so much better than commercial class b! I really want one!!
Wow! Both are great. We are retired and do not like cold climates so the shorter van would suit us. We have a portable marine toilet in our boat so I would just bring that along and make a long shower curtain in the back.
Nice job. Vans and video.

Looks like a good build. Me 144 all the way I like the nimbleness of the 144 outdoor shower doesn’t bother me a bit
I like the build.
Amazing work! Love them both!! Where did you get the rubber mat that you wrapped the garage walls with?
Great comparison! Both beautiful! Can you rig the 170 with cassette toilet or composter only? Thank you for the great video 👍
Hola desde Valencia Que Dios os bendiga. Me gusta muchísimo las dos
Nice 👍 thanks
Great side by side comparison if we could have fit in the space we would have gone with the 170 not to mention all the beach life toys.
Stunning build and colors. How are you liking the mix of the blue/gray van color with all the white components in comparison to the white van with the white components/cabinets, etc. inside? I was curious since we did not really see the colored van with the rear and side doors closed from an interior view. Do the colored van doors make the interior feel any smaller?
For the 144 why not put 2 singles in as a bunkbed and then add a shower/toilet on the other side?
We definitely will contact you when we are ready to build our own RV. We are on our 2nd RV (airstream) and still found that some of our needs are not 100% met :).
Also would be great and do you guys make so the bed converts to a dining table / lounge area as well as the swivel seats in front ?
I need the 144 with the enclosed washroom. Can't live without washroom
I’d do the 144 with less counter space in trade for the shower/toilet. Stack the microwave over a sink. That way i’d fit in regular parking spaces when in town anhave a better turn radius. I wonder if the chassis can still accommodate the grey water tank from the 170.
Very nice. The 170 with a twin size bed would make even more room. Interesting
Great looking vans but ideally would want a sideways bed with the 170 so you can have the larger kitchen and even larger fridge
Both are beautiful van build but if you live alone I think the 144 is a good option too
I would love to get the 170” wheel.
I'm sure you can put a bathroom in 144 while have the bed convertible to seating area with table while the bench is where u put the kitchen.
Love the vans 👍🏽how do u charge & how long turn around time?
Awesome designs! How custom can your company be? Looking at a 144 but want a specific design.
In both versions, it was possible to make a pull-out shelf with a refrigerator. In this case, it would be possible to get cold beer from the refrigerator, right outside - without going into the car.
Do you guys do different configurations on the sprinter van? Or can you guys convert a bus??
Wonder if you could place the queen sideways in the 170 with flares and gain some interior space?
144 for me. I like it compact. You could move the fridge under the bed and use the space for a hidden toilet. Lastly design a hidden shower space near the side entrance, in case the outdoor shower is not feasible.

Move the kitchen on the door side and in the opposite side u can make a batrhroom and a space for a small fridge and some clothes. In the back area dinet with posibility to make it a full bed and that s it.

Yeah my heart says 170, but my brain says 144.
I would use a twin bed in the 144. That way I can make more storage.
Fantastic job! What was the build cost for each?
off the cuff: I'm obsessed with two Sprinter 144 chassis RVs. One is 'The Den', by Yama Vans, the other is 'Veda', by Advanced RVs. I'm interested in a hybrid layout, borrowing from both designs. this would take the sliding door side layout from The Den, and the other side's layout from Veda, if that makes sense. Any thoughts?
May i know what the different 144 n 170 model , are u from UK?
These are great options! One question: how would you access the batteries in the 144 if needed.
@activanconversions
3 жыл бұрын
You can remove the garage wall with a couple latches to access the batteries if needed.
I’m afraid to ask what would be the cost to get either of these vans built plus cost of the van?
is this the 170 lwb extended 290" or the 170 lwb 274.3"?
would a happijac fit in either? thanks!
Love it! Can u dm for the price difference ?

with the white van it looks like someone could sleep under the big bed? with a slightly thinner mattress?

What is the difference in van cost prior to conversion? From Mercedes.
Total height with add-ons for each van please!
Hmmm Nice👍
Cost please
Yes I'll know you both, so this is your 3rd Van?
Yea I need that 170 it's just me but I still want to feel like I can move around.
would it be possible to have an enclosed wet bath in the shorter wheel base if you were willing to sacrifice a shorter galley, and shift it to the passenger side with an extendable table?

I'm wondering too......
Are you producing this van for purchase? What is your location?
I thought the SPRINTER REVEL uses the 144 n apear to have more space inside including the indoor shower,,,
if you flipped the sink and drawers to the other side where the bench, since its really just nothing but a bench that you can't sleep on, you can put in a shower where the sink is and more drawers and storage next to the shower....still get the same amenities as the 170 just losing the bench but gain more storage if placed next to the shower
Where to find pricing?
What is cost to build out the 144 model in this video?
I love your builds, I currently have a 2021 Revel and thinking of buying a custom. Does the bed fold up in the rear?
What do thoes cost?
Next conversion... how about a pontoon boat to a house boat!
Would you consider doing the crosswise bed in the 170?

.....install bump outs for 6'+ clients
Lose the shower in the 170; make it into an outdoor shower. Lose the kitchen in the 170 and make a slide out kitchen in the garage. I’m 6’ 5” and the 170 would be preferable for me. Add 2 swivel seats so there are 4 swivel seats. Add a lagoon table for the 4 seats. My idea is to travel the USA and play all the municipal golf courses. Love the set up. 👌👍

Sounds like a cool build for your purpose! I'd love to travel and golf everywhere as well haha
Move kitchen to door and put shower where kitchen is? Is that possible? But For me the 170 is what I'd build out as a shower and toliet are mandatory
I like the REVEL much better!
hmm, is the solar system under powered for a 300maH storage?
Can you put flares on the 170 and put the bed sideway?
