Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In 3 videos I show how to remove and install valves and valve springs three different ways on scooter or motorcycle or other small engine cylinder heads. This second video shows removal and installation using a specialty tool.

    Thanks. For 40 years, I have done that with a deep well socket (about a 14mm) to "pop" the keepers. The installer can be made with a 1/4 drive deep socket inside a larger 3/8 drive deep well socket. Use a 2 inch hole saw to cut a 1/2 thick wooden plywood "puck" to hold the valves in place (instead of the rubber knob). Cost:free.

    ohh wow that just makes things easier! awesome tool before that, I just use a deep socket and a "sorta hard" plastic sheet to keep the valve keeps aligned and fall into place when I push on the springs might take 1-3 tries but it works 🤷🏻‍♂️

    This is clever. I wonder if a guy couldn't just use pvc and a plastic weighted hammer. A lawn mower is likely not going to break it. Otherwise, I have enough pipe. Pretty neat.

    Look up some pics of keepers and the ends of valves. You'll see that the valves have a groove and the keepers inside are designed to interact with that. The outsides are made at a taper.

    Hey I have a question for you since you are very crafty with scooter work. If I buy a new cylinder head and new valves, do I need to cut the valve seats or lap them? The scooter I have is discontinued and they have no more fully assembled head left but they have a new bare head and new valves. It is a 2016 SYM HD200 EVO, 4 valve cylinder head. I would assume the valve seats and valves are machined by the manufaturer to have a perfect seal if they are new. Thanks!

  • @49ccscoot

    @49ccscoot

    It would depend on exactly what you buy, but you shouldn't usually have to cut the seats. I'd lap them.

    on mine, a 125 jonway,2010, the valve springs have progressive pitch coils,they are not to be installed upside down, the coils are closer together on one end, looking now thru youtube to see how they go

    @@49ccscoot Yes, they must, that is why they were wound like that in the first place; it has to do with their resonant frequencies and with valve,cam lobe and spring wear,and horsepower loss; lots to read about that, i just checked w/Dr Goog, lol And since i'm here, thanks again for your great videos.

    Is it always better to put washer under the valve spring? Or just shave my retainer to prevent valve seal kiss?

  • @49ccscoot

    @49ccscoot

    If you start adding shims, it changes spring pressure and then you could also push to coil bind. In some popular applications, you can get offset keepers so you could put say a 0.030" shim under the spring and then use 0.030" offset keepers. If you're working on a scooter, that's not likely to be an option. A lot of people take them to a machine shop and get the guides machined for clearance.

    @@low9164 I would call the machine shop and ask them what they want to be sure. If you know all specs of diameter, position, depth, angle then they can do it with just the piston for sure but otherwise it's best to ask what they want. I know that with some of the GY6 and 139QMBs, the reliefs don't always match up exactly where they need to be.
