Valve clearance | Follow up | 20000 kms | The importance to do it at Compression Stroke TDC

Hey
So just some more blabber for the curious ones to do a DIY and why RE recommends clockwise rotation when common knowledge tells us to do it anti clockwise :)
Also trying to show how to get this done based on the markings on the crank wheel magneto. To be honest I have still missed out on few in depth basics, maybe next time i do it I will try to share those. But hopefully this will cover most of the important bits :D
Cheers

@noel shenz hey mate, gt535 is equipped with hydraulic push load adjustment, so the way push road operates is different in gt 535 than the cam chain operated one on himalayan. Basically if you are having issues on gt 535 the hydraulic might need replacement. It can't be adjusted like in the above vid. But if you are just curious on how to find compression, idea is same, remove tank, remove the top casings on the head to gain access to rocker arm and follow the cycles by rotating crank by putting bike in 3 or 4 gear with hand when engine is off. But just to be clear as mentioned earlier the tappet can't be adjusted like shown in above vid. Cheers

great video. You got it in one, the reason your turn it clockwise is that magneto hold down bolt can come undone if you turn it anti clockwise. Its unlikely but I have experienced it on another big single banger, and it cost me a lot to fix. They are only done up to 60 lbs/ft (81 NM) so its very easy to loosen it slightly when adjusting tappets. You might not fully loosen it, but you can partially loosen it which then allows the engine power pulses to loosen it the rest of the way. Result, not nice. Another tip, when you have it at TDC compression, put the spark plug in a few turns just to stop any dirt you might dislodge falling in the cylinder. I also agree with the other posters, the tappets do move when tightening the nut. I now know by how much, even if I'm holding the adjuster tool tightly I set my gap to allow for the movement and when I re-check after tightening its within spec. Thats experience, it can't be taught, but getting familiar with your bike allows you to understand how your particular engine reacts when you work on it.

Thanks mate, true, there is always the chance of loosening it, hasnt happened to me but I have heard of cases aplenty, doesnt take much effort. :) about the tappet too, yes its more of a feel thing. I wanted to show the tappet, i even unwinded it completely to explain, but the vid was getting too long, next time I do it, i' try to cover that aswell. Some say its a hassle but to be honest I have gotten used to tappets and more comfortable then shims. reminds me of old REs with pushrods, in terms of simplicity they were and still are my favorite ones to play around on :D cheers

Hey mate, first thing to check would be evap hose coming out tank. Most of the time they put it back improperly and it gets chocked. Simple fix for that, I have one vid on proper tank removal and refitting. And I can only hope that that clearance was done properly and isn't too tight. Were you there when it was done, did you notice what feeler gauge he used for intake and exhaust. But 1100 when the bike has warmed up is quite low for FI model, was it running fine at 1100 rpm before clearance was done? Anyways most likely it might be just the evap hose getting chocked, do give it a look. Cheers

@@leuheanrede Hi mate, I did the valve clearance yesterday! I had this phobia of loosening the crank bolt. So I just played it safe by rotating the crank counter clockwise by carefully watching the valves in the reverse order. The valves are a bit loose. Last time it was checked at 3000km before. And now it took me a lot of tries to get the exact gap at both the valves. But finally I made it. Surprise thing is the bike now feels smooth. I mean before the adjustments, the bike felt rough at 4K RPM 3rd gear. Now I feel like the roughness has lessened. Is adjusting the valves related to do with this smoothness? Two days before I had done throttle body cleaning. Even that time I didn't feel the smoothness! Man, I was a person who just sit & ride kinda person. But now I have been noticing these small things! 😀 Couldn't believe myself! 😀 All credit goes to you my master! ❤️

Hey mate, sorry about this but hope it makes sense and shows the basic idea and tools needed to do the job as its from my another channel and in Hindi and on r15 v3. -kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZKmoj7OPmbLHdrw.html Thing is that the one on Himalayan havent required changing yet, fingers crossed, shouldnt be anytime soon, but if it does the tools are basiically the same as V3 also used the same 41 mm fork and seal and seal driver and internal piston holder etc. Cheers

Hy bro i'm using a himalayan with a after market exhaust in it. I feel a lot of backfire and my friend says it because of fuel rich you need to get it tuned, i'm a bit confused if this is not the reason what are the other factors i need to be considered

Thanks mate, and sorry I fumbled there in the vid, glad you asked. So if its below .08 that means it has to be loosened. Lets say we cant get the .08 feeler gauge in but we can get .07 in with ease thats means the clearance is too tight and we need to bring it to spec range between .08 to .10 mm by loosening and readjusting. Cheers :)

Why is that even to discuss? If the manual says you have to turn it clockwise, why the heck do people consider turning it the other direction? There’s no need to turn it counter clockwise at all
