Thanks, chap, I have now done engine oil change and fork oil change by watching your videos. Can't thank you enough for keeping it all simple and straightforward. Turned quite a few others off after 10 secs as it seems their personality was more important than the mechanics.

@@leuheanrede Also from Scotland - This is proving very useful. Many hundreds of pounds in labour will be saved with your vids. I was quoted 300 pounds for the cone set bearings change. At national minimum wage here this is 26 hours of earnings. I'll do it myself for 50.

Thanks mate. I am aware of Jeet Bhasker channels. My point is this, why open an implacably running engine when I am doing every thing in my power to make sure the it will easy cross 80000 kms and maybe even more. With good riding practices and proper timely maintenance and engine should do above 80000 kms easy. I have completed 54000 kms on KTM and still running like new, along with other bikes that are well over 50000 kms and not even the clutch plates have been changed. I am expectecting to see 1,00,000 ;) Why open it when all is well Cheers :)

Thanks Leuhearede, I found this vid most useful ,at the moment I am half way though fitting my YSS front fork mod kit ,,I was not sure of the amount of new fluid to fill with,,and another reason why I am half way though ,is because YSS only give a small 20ml bottle(not enough for two legs) so all is good,,, Must say if you start work outside it always starts to rain

@@leuheanrede hi ,just the front,, i found the fork action the worse thing about my bike..And when i drained the forks I maybe found the reason. it had the wrong amount of fuild in,,,,(too low. )the back shock i am ok with,another reason is lack of cash...regards

@@lipsee100 hahaha, mine is the same (lack of cash) but have found a way to make them behave slightly better with luggage on by adding spacers to increase preload. Lets see how long it lasts

Also one more comment, and I'm a beginner, but my RE mechanic who's been working on RE since 30 years has told me - wash the bike before doing any such work, so at least some of the dirt is off and you don't risk it going into places you don't want dirt in. It would also clean up the look in your video. Again, i'm no expert but like to do DIY stuff on my bike, please don't get me wrong and think i'm giving gyaan.

I have a continental GT 535 and I have the same problem. Both forks have to be removed to change the fork oil. I dunno if the new GT's come with drain bolts

Nice video and very informative. Though surprised oil needs changing. I only twice changed fork oil and that was to a different grade to change the damping effect. This is over 100k miles multiple bikes etc.

Thanks mate. And yes we can go without changing but things is fork oil change at periodic intervals make the ride more supple while also clearing microscopic debris caused by weae and tear. But intervals can certainly be stretched. As oil accumulates more and more miles suspension tends to become firm, liked by many, so its like using higher grade oil thus changing the damping. Did you switch to higher or lower grade oil in those intervals you mentioned?

@@leuheanrede Thinking back, I changed the fork oil on a Bergman 650 to a thicker oil to stop it bottoming out so quickly. Also I do recall changing fork oil on a goldwing 1500, I was putting in stiffer springs and the bike had done over 100k miles (not by me) but as i had forks open, thought it would be good to do at same time.

Thanks mate, I appreciate your kind words 🙂 As for grade of oil, I am not sure, but indeed it seems to be 5w but could very well be 10w as it doesn't mention anything on the label. I am currently using Liqui Moly 10w will post the vid soon.. if Liqui Moly is unavailable, you can use Yamalube 10w fork oil, easily available at Yamaha service centers. Maximo 10w is also an option but on higher side of pricing. Will post updates on LM shortly. Cheers

@@leuheanrede thanks for suggestions...yep its hard to find fork oil of Castrol, Liqui moly, Motul here in nepal I am surprised...I searched the whole city and none of them heard about Fork oil has a grade...even some of the Royal enfield mechanics and dealers also don't know about fork oil grade....finally I went to yamaha showroom and found yamahalube 10W in there rack but they also don't know about fork oil grades...

hey bro I would recommend that the head be taken to lathe shop once the valves have been taken off. Yes a good lathe shop will be able to do it without taking them off. But consider this as an opportunity to get the valves out and re seating them, as discussed :D Cheers :)

The forks on my Himalayan compress alot even when standstill. The travel is still the same, but barely any preload. Any way i can fix that? Because it's a pain to use the side stand, which somewhat keeps the bike upright..

Use yss fork springs ₹5k And use maxima 15w fork oil ₹1k Your Himalayan will stand tall and won’t bottom out in heavy load that much

That's crazy. A drain plug at the botton of the fork tube makes more sense. A less good but easier way is to take tubing and siphon out the oil....measuring what comes out in order to only add difference of what's left. But if you're going to follow this crazy method, may as well replace fork tube seals as matter of course, as they are cheap.

oh another thing I do is place an old brake pad in your caliper between your present pads,, this stops accidentally operating the brakes and pushing out the piston...(tell me how I know!! )

The front mudguard is metallic or made of plastic??? Cuz i want to install it in my Xpulse 200. The tyre size is same that is why i think that it may get installed in it.

Yes mate, spring can be cleaned using petrol. But avoid petrol on rubber parts like fork seal, orings and gaiters. Cheers :)

What do you think about putting in heavier oil, say 15w with a viscosity of around 50mm^2/s?

I have always pondered on that idea mate. For now i have just added spacers in front fork to get the preload right and things are seeming to be good. There is a lot to suspension than adding preload or changing to higher viscosity. Not trying to be a pedantic here but I am still testing the spacers thing. But yes changing viscosity to heavier weight is the most cost effective way but has its drawbacks too depending on what kinda riding we do and on what terrain plus our body weight. You can try 15 weight for sure, damping will be changed though. May I know how much do you weigh

The stiffness that you are feeling might just be the suspension bouncing about too much cos of incorrect sag thus giving too much feedback. I can be absolutely wrong here but do adjust it once and see for a couple of days. It was so in my case and bringing it to 5 notch got me peace.

Well .. today RE service center messed up my Himalayan .. first they let fork oil spill all over the front brake rotor and calipers ( had to replace pads).. , messed up the tstem setting .( Very heavy now ) and when I checked the bill thoroughly .. they put in only 800ml(4 bottles of RE 200ml ) oil in forks instead of the required 910ml ... I'll have to do it all by myself over the weekend. Thanks for this guide . Appreciated. ( Any idea where to find the gaiters , service center is not taking orders? ) . Feeling heartbroken tbh 😞 . Edit:- they also lost the coin shaped washer with no holes .. amazing. Dunno where can I find that. )

A true heart ache mate to just read and feel the damage. no less since its done and moving forward, just opening the caps and pouring 55 ml will bring it to speed. as for the gaiters, just search fork gaiters on amazon, couple of results will come, finding the correct length might be an issue but doable. else may i recommend another RE service center if close by, cheers

@@leuheanrede you won't believe what happened bro ! I followed your video and removed the fork legs .. drained them .. left had about 210ml and right had about 220ml oil in them. I was confused. Thought I was doing something wrong . Pumped them 50+ times and left to drain overnight .. wasn't able to get more than 550 ml oil out ( and it was dirty , they didn't clean out the old oil properly I guess) I was furious .. called them and they gave the textbook excuse, Bring it here sir we will look into it. Staff mistake sir.. I asked a friend to bring me 5 bottles of oil and did it all over again . Now it's feeling like brand new . ( I think the inexperienced staff just drained old oil and poured in 1 bottle in each leg like they do in classis and bullets .. they only take 195ml ) , I'm new in this town and I've seen just 1 other Himalayan here in 2 months , .. I think the service center has no staff trained for Himalayan as this is a small town . ) ,Keep the diy guides coming , seems like I'll have to do a lot of maintenance by myself 😁😁✌️ Thanks .

@@leuheanrede yes , my rear suspension is on the 5th notch right now as I'm on the heavier side ( between 78-80 ) and I carry luggage/pillion frequently. It was on 3rd for a few months and the bike felt like it was squatting slightly. On 5th I feel the front end a bit more planted ( it might just be my brain thinking this ). Redoing the front suspension maintenance like your video also fixed the wiggling problem during hard braking . ( Hard braking above about 80kmph caused the bike to wiggle.. I'll be happy to help you if you need any more info .. @_yep_its_me_madhav_ is my insta , drop a message if you can , I wanted to ask you about engine oils ans stuff. 😂

Yes, thanks mate I too am 75 ish. And 5th notch made ride and handling dynamics almost perfect for me. Adding 20-30 kg of luggage did change things a bit and that is what i am working on currently, so your input is greatly appreciated 🤓 Will find you on insta once I learn to use it properly 😊 trying now. Hey mate. Normal city use 10000 to 12000 kms. If offroading, you can consider a bit early too like 7-8000 kms

Hey mate, 20w will be to heavy. I know that older Enfield used 20w, pre 2007 model. but the newer models use lighter. not exactly sure but i guess 10w or lesser even.

Hey mate. I use 10 w. Result is a bit soft on compression and rebound but for my 75 kg weight it was manageable. That being said, rather then going for stiffer spring I decided to add preload at front :) yes yes cheaper cost effective alternative. Will post a vid soon mate ;)

Hi, In total i bought 5 small 200 ml bottles from RE service center. 87 INR each, so 435 INR for 1 lts exgst Note - Stick with RE recommended 10w oil, if you dont wish to change the handling. another company providing 10w in India is Yamaha. Castrol is 20w, Motul that is readily available is again 20w Bajaj provided 5w that would be too light. Waxpol one available is again 5w

Oh my god what a humongus spacer. Not good for the quality of the suspension at all, it just makes it possible to use a short, cheaper spring. Bad.

I see your point, a longer spring with smaller spacer could have done the job. But the point is that the stock one is pretty damn good to be honest. The engineers at Harris performance did a brilliant job of getting the right setup without compromising the road / offroad transition. Cheers :)

It could have done the job a lot better, but it would cost more, Harris or KYB. For example, in my XR650 the spring is all the way to the top cap. Don't praise the offroad capability until you ride an actual enduro. :)
