    I just bought and received your kits! Very excited to use them. My concern is placing a wood object in the oven what is the highest temperature that the sheet holder can see?

    please send me some pics when your done I love to see what people make with there former's I haven't used petg much but just heat it slowly in a preheated oven and be careful not to overcook it its a little trial and error at first best advice I can give is watch loads of you tube videos there is a a lot of knowledge to tap into out there

    I'm looking at buying your kit, quick question though. Does it have to be an electric oven to heat up the frame? Worried about using a gas oven and burning the frame!

  • @michaelgreenhouse2044

    @michaelgreenhouse2044

    5 жыл бұрын

    To be honest I have not used one with a gas oven but as the frame is only in the oven for a few minutes it should be ok I always use the oven not the grill pre heat to around 150c or 300f gas mark 2 that way your oven flame should be low as it will be at temperature alternatively you can make a simple heat box there are a few videos on you tube hope this helps

    Have you tried this with thin eva foam 2mm or 3mm?

  • @michaelgreenhouse2044

    @michaelgreenhouse2044

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes I have formed eva foam with a former it works well you need to heat gently and best if your mould is inverted that way the eva foam will pickup very tiny detail even scratch marks if you want a hard shell you can use pvc foam board extremely hard shell great detail using inverted mould they are the only plastics you can form 5mm thick on these formers the pvc foam board forms so hard you can stand on it and ultra light

    Hi could you use a heat gun to heat the plastic sheet instead of an oven?

  • @michaelgreenhouse2044

    @michaelgreenhouse2044

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi no it doesn't provide an even heat across the surface if you don't want to use an oven a simple heat box is easy to make take a look at my other videos there is one based around a horizontal toaster and a large former that uses 4 hobs as a heat source

    What is the powder you are using in your finishing?

  • @michaelgreenhouse2044

    @michaelgreenhouse2044

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi here is a link its iron powder used for cold casting use a mask when using it In cold casting you dust the inside of the mould and add to the resin to create the metal surface I found by spraying the surface with lacquer and dusting with the powder in a couple of layers you can get the same effect

  • @michaelgreenhouse2044

    @michaelgreenhouse2044

    IT works with 1'5mm I would say if you are using 3mm extruded acrylic and you heat gently up to temperature so the heat soaks the acrylic until really soft and the form you are making is smooth without a lot of fine detail it should work

    Hello Michael is this work for 3mm Arylic sheet ? I just bought one from you !

  • @michaelgreenhouse2044

    @michaelgreenhouse2044

    5 жыл бұрын

    I usually only recommend using sheets of 1.5mm but I have used thicker sheets the results will depend on the strength of your vacuum cleaner and with thicker material you will need to heat your material until it is very soft also where possible warm the form the plastic is going to be shaped around this will give you more time to vacuum the plastic and as the plastic is forming you can heat gently from above with a heat gun like the ones used for paint stripping but you have to do this carefully so as not to burn the plastic

    you should be able to use the 3mm acrylic its only fine details that wouldnt be picked up it may be better to use a clear hips plastic or petg as when you heat acrylic it can form bubbles in the material and 1.5mm will give a firm shell

    A lot of time and effort for such an underwhelming result. A far superior and less time consuming result could have been achieved if a bit of thought had been exercised.

    yes it was a bit of effort but it was an experiment some work better than others I have used the same process on a smaller item to produce a very effective brass and rusted steel finish
