V8 SUV Engine & Transmission Rejuvenation - BMW E70 X5 - Project X5: Part 3
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This episode is a continuation of the valve stem seal replacement on the N62 4.8L V8 engine. They had to be replaced due to blue smoke and oil consumption issue. We are putting the engine back together and along the way replacing the water pump, thermostat, coolant hose, alternator bracket seal, strip bolt, vapor blast, service the ZF 6HP28X transmission with new seals and solenoids and a lot more.

As a VW Porsche Audi "technician" while in college in Columbia, MO, decades ago. at the (now defunct) John Riddick VW Porsche Audi, looking at how you painstakingly restored the auto trans components brought back not-so-fond memories. I wish I had KZread before I ruined that poor couple's Type 3 trans during a routine service! I'll never forget the look on their faces when they rode in the tow truck back to the dealership after I wrecked their transmission because I had zero training, and was paid flat rate to 'get the job done quickly'.

It's the same when you're an auto tech and fix your car or your friends car. Every ding, scratch, blemish drives you nuts, especially if you're a detailer as well lol. Every little nvh will make you go mental.
19:44 good trick for in situ flushing, replace the lines and keep the old connectors, chop the pipe portion and mate the connector to some hose, same for the other side, then you can either marry the whole thing to a cheapo aquarium pump (high volume) and fill the system with some detergent based cleaner or just use regular water to flush it from the tap. I personally run the system through a small bucket with a pump, changing the liquid to increasingly cleaner water. Works great for rads and other finned implements. It's particularly good if you have the time to run some deposit breakers through the system. I use a little bit of zep calcium lime and rust remover and it works a treat. In 4 or 5 flushes the water goes from raw sewage to clean, and there's a lot residue that's spewed out in the bucket, so i know it also "cooks" off the stuff inside the walls too. Worth doing to a system that's been poorly treated.
Let's get this beautiful episode back on track! I'll just have to re play it the whole day! Great episode as always Sreten!

Great video as always and worth the extra wait. Just so people know, Bmw brought these out as a 'filled for life' transmission. What this actually meant was its not a service item whilst under warranty (5 years). It was still meant to be serviced but obviously every 5 years or 150,000ks as all automatics burn its oil eventually. These transmissions were alsp used in our aussie falcons but had a service schedule in place from ford. Hence why the E70 have trans related issues and people/ mechanics take the life time fill for granted. Just a fact i learnt in my auto career working with ZF and Bmw
@malolud9549
15 күн бұрын
Yeah, I was like wtf when he said that some are refilling the old oil 😅Bmw says it's "lifetime", but what they actually mean by lifetime is 180k kilometers(and it's official according to bmw themselves, no joke). That's the sad reality of bmw unfortunately. Some even have to change it after 60k kilometers because of problems with transmission.

Hi Sreten. Provided it doesn't require too much effort, would you mind including an on-screen summary of the replacement parts you purchased and their cost...when you perform routine maintenance/common repair jobs such as in this video? I realize prices may vary significantly by region, but that just adds another layer of interest to your videos. Maybe indicate when parts are after-market or used as well. Thanks! 21:50 I must admit, I felt a bit of anxiety about the 20 minute mark as I worried you might not give the engine bay your usual treatment. Yep. That's the correct fix. The "lifetime" fluid is bullshit. Fluids inside a transmission should be changed just like any other oil. If that claim, which is 100% a wanketing overstatement, were true, then they'd never change the transmission fluids on far more complex machinery like farming implements. And boy do those fluids get changed, by the oil drums. Those gearboxes make this one look like a child's toy by comparison with all the various options and different clutch packs and solenoids. In our lot, we change the fluid every 10k. Not too many times, not too far between them either. We've never, not once had issues with our gearboxes. They are by far the most reliable component across several brand, once you disregard the obvious bullshit.
Im in ICT but these videos are so relaxing to watch 😊 + you learn something 🎉 Sehr gut!
