Utah Inherits an NHL Team That Could Be a Playoff Caliber Team Next Season

Спорт

It might sound crazy to some, but the Coyotes were building an entertaining roster with a bright future. Now Utah gets to mold that roster for the 2024-25 season.

    I tried to watch the celebration in Utah greeting the Coyotes. Had to turn it off. It hurt too much watching all the suffering that we went through to finally get a competitive team and then to have them get moved. I'm happy for the guys to be treated like the professional players that they are & have an ownership group that's willing to invest in them. Still stings, though. Take care of our boys, Utah.

    Did you go to the games, buy merch, watch on TV, etc.? If so, I feel your pain, but outside looking in, it seemed like walking into Utah was the first time a lot of the young guys ever felt what it was like to walk into an NHL home arena. Now that it is a realty a lot of people are complaining about the team being moved when they never supported them in the first place.

    This is why the Coyotes fans absolutely HATE Meruelo. The potential of this team is what was stolen from us. Through all the hardships and missed playoffs, it was this team and this GM that was not only going to get the Coyotes into the playoffs again, but make a deep run, maybe even contend for the cup. That is what scared the NHL and the NHLPA to force the move. They didn’t want the playoffs in the Mullett. Utah is a very lucky team.

  • @JD200_

    @JD200_

    I disagree with the last part of your statement as regardless of team success in the future you need to have a better arena situation. Meruelo was incapable of securing a new arena and I’m guessing the NHL will return to Arizona with no ownership. With all that said, I had predicted the yotes would contend for a WC spot this season and while that obviously didn’t happen they’re an exciting team on the rise. Gives me Nordiques to Colorado vibes

    Smith defers to the experts he's hired, i.e., Danny Ainge is the one calling the shots on the rebuild and the Jazz have amassed quite the trove of picks. End of season interviews point towards the Jazz transitioning from asset acquisition to spending and being more aggressive on trades. Honestly, Jazz are probably one season behind on the rebuild with respect to the NHL team.

    Goaltending will still be their main issue. Ingram is solid but IDK if he's a guy that you can count on for 60+ games and then a playoff run. Vejmelka is in a contract year so maybe he turns in a better than his average performance. He's definitely not a guy that can be counted on for an extended amount of games though. Maybe if the coaching uses both of em smartly they could be better than I expect. To me, the west is too stacked, even with their non playoff teams, for them to sneak in. I dont see any current West playoff teams dropping off too much next season.

    That's one reason why this team relocation hurts so much. We were finally seeing hope for the future, and now they're gone. I'll follow the boys. Some fellow diehards are turned away from the NHL altogether. I can't, especially not Josh Doan, among others. I don't cry every day anymore, but this hollow cavity in my chest still lingers. #YotesForever

    Shea Weber is turning into a journeyman. The man played for 2 teams (Habs and Preds), and his contract has been retired on 3 different teams already (Vegas, Arizona and Utah).

    this coyotes/Utah team feels like Detroit in 2022/2023 had stretches of success and many period of tragic play. i definitely think both teams Detroit, and this Utah/Coyotes team will be playoff teams next year.

    I’m not sure I’m completely sold on Tourigny as our head coach. Guenther should be playing for Utah this year correct? Sounds like we will have a solid roster and then some if management plays their cards right.

    What does Yeti have to do with Utah? On the other hand if they use the name Mammoth they can do a tie up with Speed Racer & the Mammoth Car. But whenever I see a team with a singular name like “Ice” or “Fury” I immediately think bush league, like sports that never made it like indoor soccer or indoor football. Those teams always had names like “the Chicago Sting” or “Kansas City Wiz”. Loser names.

    I think next season is a reach. They made a big step forward this year and then took the foot off the gas to capture another good draft pick. I really like where the team is going. With real ownership they won't shoot themselves in the foot again (hopefully). They finished 27th this year in between Ottawa and Montreal. They got outshot all year on average by four shots a game. It's kind of crazy but their entire defense are free agents. Sean Durzi, J.J. Moser, Juuso Valimaki, and Michael Kesselring are RFA's. Brown and Dermott are UFA's. The offense was 16th this year. They were lead by Keller, Schmaultz and Macelli. They have Logan Cooley and Dylan Guenther ready to play a full season and take steps forward. They have Lawson Crouse and Aatu Raty, Conor Geekie, Josh Doan, Hayton and Carcone in the wings. They hope to get Shimashev and Buut away from Russia. Lamoureux in the Minors. The veterans hopefully get pushed aside. Kerfoot and Bjugstad. Still I look for them to step forward to maybe finish 18th this year. Maybe they could use a Radko Gudas kind of defensemen. I'm not sold on their goaltending which was strong this year. Michael Hrabel?? Maybe. Wow 43$ million in space. Don't spend it all guys.
