I think the Utah HC and Utah Hockey Club names are just placeholders that they would use for one season if they can't come up with a name in time, similar to how the Washington Commanders were the Washington Football Team while a new name was being decided. It's worth noting that the beehive is the state symbol of Utah because it symbolizes community and industry, not because Utah is literally known for beekeeping and honey production (because it really isn't). There's actually a beehive on the state flag because of this. Utah was almsot called "Deseret" instead, which is a word from The Book or Mormon that supposedly means "honey bee". Also, UNLV is the Rebels, not the Outlaws. The Utah Outlaws is actually a fitting name because Butch Cassidy and the Hole in the Wall Gang was from Utah.

Absolutely, a lot of teams don’t have that color scheme either so it would be refreshing to see anything other than red and black or blue with white

A Yeti mascot could have a rivalry with Gritty.

I agree with a gentleman below me the Utah Yeti does not sound like a professional NHL team who want to be taken seriously. And also we are not located in the Himalayas. I just hope they do well at classy , Local, & timeless…. Like the original 8NHL teams. All classy timeless logos that have a local themed name. I just wish the golden knights were never damned their name because every kind of brought back the golden eagles, I know for a fact that the logo colour way and name had a wonderful wonderful appeal to Utah. But obviously the “Utah golden eagles” does not sound as good as the Salt Lake Golden Eagles but it has the name golden in it, and with Vegas being a six hour drive south of us Wouldn’t work. And nothing against Seattle fans but with the last expansion team being called the ”Krakin” another mythical creature, therefore another reason why “Yeti” cannot be the name. I just pray they make the right choice. Because people spend more money on merchandise if it’s a dope classy timeless logo and the Color’s s (I don’t know if the black white and silver when the team arrived was on purpose was a hint or if that’s what the colours are going to be. And if those are the Color’s… 🤢 I just dislike the name Yetu I think they could do something better . It just sounds like the name little kids their team. I could do mammoth, I could do blizzard, I could also do the outlaws with a yeti as dressed up and “ Western United States outlaw from the late 1800’s” They can also be called the Utah Eagles and easily go with the colours that the Salt Lake golden eagles had because yellow was one of the main colours same of the jazz.

fun facts: the real 'original' 1917 NHL teams were le Club de Hockey Canadien (aka Montreal Canadiens), Toronto Arenas (later St Patricks then Maple Leafs), the Ottawa Senators (original version), Montreal Wanderers (didn't last the first season due to fire), and Quebec Bulldogs (later Hamilton Tigers - the moved to become to the New York Americans). Boston Bruins and Montreal Maroons were added in 1924. And the Pittsburg Pirates (later Philadelphia Quakers) in 1925. The league peaked at 10 teams in 1926 (the year it got exclusive control of the Stanley Cup, which dates to 1893) when they added the Rangers, Black Hawks, and Cougars (later Falcons the Red Wings) made up of players from the defunct Western league. By 1942 the NHL had shrunk to six teams ( remained thus until 1967) and these are now often referred to as the 'original six' even though only two of the actually are. The Utah franchise was originally the original Winnipeg Jets, founding member of the World Hockey Association in 1972 who joined the NHL in 1979, later moved to Phoenix and now Salt Lake City. (Along with the New Jersey Devils, it's the only current franchise to have relocated twice.) It's the oldest NHL team to not yet make it to the finals. But hopefully that will change. (I agree that Golden Knights is a bad name on par with Mighty Ducks - overly pretentious)

@@DogWhoFilms Toronto current franchise won the cup 13 times 1918-67 - which still holds as the second most all time for a team (since 1915 which is post the challenge-era when the cup was like a title to be won from the reigning champions). Toronto is my team's rival, but I'm not petty to not wish them or any other Canadian team to do well. It is kinda sad though that Toronto hasn't even made the finals since 1967. Long suffering fans. Though at least since them they've won seven Grey Cups, two World Series, and the O'Brien once. Might even win the PWHL's cup.

totally agree. the Utah Raptor is a real dinosaur. and it shouldn't matter that Toronto has an NBA team with it. The NBA also has the Kings, and the NFL has the Panthers and Jets too.

Yeti not Yetis IMO is the best name that Ryan Smith trademarked.

My original suggestion was Honeybees or something like Swarm as it is the Honeybee state. Thought it would be a cool colour scheme, the arena nicknamed 'the Hive', having buzzing sound effects when the players come out etc. But last month someone from the state pointed out on Facebook that the state is also known for it's dinosaurs and there's one called the utah raptor. The blizzard's a fine name because you can use any animal that's associated with the cold weather as a mascot and/or logo. I don't think they need dq's sponsorship to use the name. Sounds like if mcdonalds would sponsor fluery to use their mcflurry name. The bee is utah state insect, not animal.

Color wise id like to see purple, blue or light blue, white, maybe yellow/gold numbers n letters.

Las Vegas Outlaws are in the XFL. Colorado Mammoth are indoor lacrosse playing in the Ball arenas in Denver. These 2 names are probably not going to work.

I cant state how happy i am that the smiths got this. Im so confident in them to turn this team around instantly and make them likable after the 30 yrs of misery in az. Being a fan of hockey n habing my og team ripped from me the way it was. I feel for the az fans but the team needed this to be relevant and survive. And hopefully az gets a differnt owner for expansion later that goes in like the smiths, or even the vegas owners have.

I’d love a Yeti mascot and it would be great for the kids.

Thank you for covering this in detail with intellect. For me, Utah Rock is the most viable. Yetis or Blizzard are good but too close to the Avalanche. Yeti could open the can of controversial, Yeti as mythical as they are, they are not from Utah so best not, but I totally understand it from a logo/marketing stand point. With “Utah Rock” you remain neutral as a business front, you hit two bases with the landscape and rolling off the Jazz…also, I can hear the..”Utah Rock!” chants - that is very market friendly. As for colour scape? Well it’s easy…just follow the landscape and imagery…it has to be sunset desert colours. Dark purple, blood orange, black, some fiery yellow, some white maybe some brown to help represent the land. These are original colours that aren’t being done in the NHL…the only problem I have with this whole concept is the mascot…I mean he can’t be just a rock…or can he…and pull off a random like Gritty and be good because it’s so bad and uncanny - I laugh but it could actually work

I do like Yeti. But let me be the first to suggest the Utah Tribe! Paying homageto the first settler in Utah by the various native American tribes that occupied all areas of the state. Similar to the U of U Utes, the Utah Tribe fully acknowledges all Indians native to the state. Mascot, colors, and merch is endless.

I dislike Yeti so much. It has nothing to do with the state. It sounds good is all it has going for it also there's already a yeti mascot in the NHL. My personal favorites have been Black Diamonds which is a reference to the incredible ski and snowboarding in the state. I also really like Express bringing in our history with the golden spike and Union Pacific railroads. No matter what we choose though I want an actual Union Pacific train horn as our goal horn

If you had, you would have discovered that: 1. A Snow Hawk is a North American bird of prey. There are white hawks native to South America who are also called Snow Hawks. There is a snowmobile line called a Snowhawk. Maybe a twelve year old can teach you how to drive one. 2. A Snow Dragon, also called Kuraokami, is a Japanese mythological creature. Although it is also a Shinto diety, many dieties have been used for commercial endeavors. A cool thing about this creature is that instead of breathing fire, it breathes cold and ice. I chose this because of the potential for an awesome logo, I can envision blue colored mist covering the rink during player intros and having a dragon's roar when a goal is scored. Since a mythological creature from the Himalayas (Yeti) is getting some love, why not a badass mythological creature from Japan? Both of these ideas would be unique and avoid possible trademark issues. As far as Ice Hawks being better, I disagree because it sounds too close to "ice hockey". Have a nice day.

The Yeti...seriously? A mythical creature that stinks and lives in thick underbrush...a hairy beast on the front of shirt? It looks ridiculous! You'd be a laughingstock. Try to remember that the Coyotes jersey was really awesome! Why not the Unicorn (being facetious)? I saw an awesome design for "the Blizzard" with an Elk in the background...totally cool. Icy Blue and Pure White colors. Perhaps-somehow-find a way to create a second jersey with purple and black-strong/discomforting colors? Imagine the Blizzard engulfing the Avalanche...it's all in the words/phrases you use. As to DQ...seriously? The people who eat that trash likely can't afford to go to hockey games, anyway.
