Good for the Uzbeks scoring a goal against the top ranked team. They get international experience, a confidence boost scoring a goal and they get a few weeks paid and stay at some nice hotels in the US. That has to be great for the team and staff.

Seems like you never played soccer, what you are saying is BS, it doesn't help at all to score a goal against a top ranked team if you get 9 against, that won't give you any change in mentality noor a boost. You got 9 goals and that's it! Must be so very frustrating for the Uzbeki keeper. The keeper looked pretty good except for failing to get to the ball when she came out of goal. Not much you can do if your teammates forget to play defense. She clearly had to commit very early because she didn't trust her defense against the USWNT offensive onslaught. The story is going to be about giving up 9 goals; but that keeper put in a real good effort.

That Uzbek goal was actually kind of important cause it shows that USWNT still sleeping on defending set pieces

Very pleased that we are allowing so many of our younger players to gel together. We had been attached for too long to too many stars from earlier competitions. Macario, Pugh, Smith... Fantastic striking trio! With a master of touch and distribution that is Lavelle behind them, it is a lethal combination.

I agree. The 'old guard' of Rapinoe, Morgan, Lloyd, Heath, Press, Ertz was a dynasty that lasted way too long. These fresh young faces have fresh young spirits, and lots of talent. The only thing I'm concerned about is that the team is becoming too small (in height). Against teams like Norway and Sweeden, that puts the US at a significant disadvantage.

We have an amazing USWNT. So impressive on every level, but more than anything the team love shows through. Props to all of you. Though my heart goes out to Sanchez, Lavelle, Pugh.. unique play makers.

These US players just keep making good decisions and it shows. It's like they're putting on a clinic every game, incredibly satisfying to watch! Great job!

Mal Pugh is getting very smooth with the ball. The way she is setting up her teammates for scores is getting quit advanced. 2023 Worlds will see Morgan, Pino, Rose, and Horan ballout on those dishes that Mal is serving up.

Pugh is the best player on the team ...and is crazy fit ...she runs all game n looks like she`s not even winded ... She`s the best player in the NWSL also..IMO ...Her and Sophia Smith gonna b a force to be reckoned with ...So disappointed Lynn Williams got Hurt .. The weakness of this team..( if there is one) might b the back line ...... They need a real test ...stop playing these cupcakes ...

Unless they win the World Cup yes they will drop out of first. Before the Olympics we were 100+ points ahead of the 2nd place team. After the Olympics the USWNT dropped 80 point and now we are only 23 points ahead of the 2nd place team. So the results of 2023 World Cup will be a determining factor o whether or not we remain in first. As for them meeting in the finals that won’t happen the way Vlatko is coaching

Not just her fault, defenders fault 90% for being out of position and allowing so much space to get into a 1 on 1 situation.

Well the great days of US soccer passed taking the divas with them. Rose is one of the few holdovers. It is good to see a youth movement as most of the once great players were well past their best before date. I think it will take some time for the US to be really competitive against the top nations.

Lately, this US team has been playing a whole bunch of amateur teams to make them look good. Ussoccer is trying to brainwash all those young, innocent girls with the narrative that USWNT is still a dominant force in world soccer, and by playing against these amateurs so they would be able to put up the scoreline of something like 9-0 or 10-0 to prove that. That is just one of their gimmicks to sell tickets. The era of US dominance is over as the world is catching on and women players are professionalized worldwide. Teams like Spain, England, Sweden, and even France now in my opinion are on par or even surpass the US.

Why does the US play teams so below their level? This hurts the team more than anything. The international break should be used to get better not to pound on a team that is well below their level. The European teams are catching up and even our neighbors Canada are playing better soccer. Don't make the same mistake the USMNT make while playing bad teams for money.

they were supposed to play another Asian team, but they had to cancel because of quarantine restrictions. so they just wanted SOMETHING, and something to boost the confidence of these girls is anything. they are the future, i think some of the vets are done.

A cap is never a wasted time. These younger players get a chance to get on the field and practice. Beyond that, it's an international friendly, so it's not a critical game otherwise. In these situations a lower ranked team "earns" a chance to play a top team. You're confused about how the sport works if you think US should only play Sweden all the time. If you wait for it you might see that match up in the next WC.

Tradition of being the best team in the world attracts young girls to play the sport. Girls don't have football (the American kind). It is more popular (along with some other sports) among boys and gets the best athletes. If soccer was the number one sport in the US like it is in numerous other countries the men's team would be much better. Less competition for the women and women's soccer in other countries gets significantly less funding.
