    Great plays. Winston it seems your shots are all pretty random and don't really have a purpose other than getting it back middle and deep. Looked like you have plenty of chances to go inside in and could've taken the points easily. I think have a coach drill you on point setup shots would be a great next step in your tennis journey. Excited to see more matches on the channel.

    @@WinstonDu hope you've grown out of the backhand strategy, you mention it a lot in your videos, but it generally doesn't work since the backhand is not a weak point for most players, a lot people prefer it since it's easier to stabilize and control your power, as opposed to forehands.. did someone tell you to adapt that strategy ?

    @@BrianErwin It’s a good for lower level players like me (3.5). One of the strategies when rallying is to try to line up my forehand against my opponent’s backhand. But yeah, as soon as I move up to play a legit 4.0 player and above, their backhand is not any weaker than forehand and so that strategy generally doesn’t work.

    Very solid stroke mate. Just a small observation, your ready position seems to be too close to the baseline in relative to your normal hitting position. You tend to step backwards for majority of the ground strokes,return to the middle by moving forward,only to step backwards again for the next shot. A better approach is to return to the middle but further away from the baseline to get ready, and step forward for every shot.

    At 10:30, Lotti shrieked. So adorable! :) I think Winston is more preoccupied with how he hits the shots vs. where he should place the shots. Most of his returns go to the center of the court I feel. He doesn't try to go for extreme angles or rip the ball down the line. Maybe it's the limit of his level but nonetheless, it was a good game. Lotti could have closed out the game at 5-1 but she seemed to lose focus and let Winston come back. Lotti is clearly the better player here.

    Hopefully this comes across as observation and not insult. Lotti (I’m assuming Charlotte, my oldest is a Charlotte!) has some amazing footwork and I think she was on her toes and swinging freely in the first 6 games. Once there was a dip in footwork, I think there was a dip in her attack level and her ball placement/accuracy suffered a bit. I’d say she just got a little gassed and some of the adrenaline wore off. (FYI Lotti and Du would both school me in a match). I think Winston settled in a bit more (of course it was hard early on as Lotti was dictating from the jump). I think the longer the match the more it would favor Winston and his strength and stamina. I have a few high school girl players I’d absolutely show this match to and show what great footwork and preparing for the ball look like. Keep up the good work!! Fun match to watch!

    Winston, you have a pretty good first serve when you go after it. Just wondering why you don't do that more? Because it looked like it set you up for some good + 1 shots if Lotti could get it back in the court at all.

  • @bigrobsydney

    @bigrobsydney

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@WinstonDu I do completely get that, and I don't disagree with your thinking. My only real suggestion there is that if you keep hitting second serves, you will get very good at hitting second serves, right? In the same way, if you hit first serves, you get better at them. But the flip side is also true; if you rarely hit first serves, and then decide "now I'm going to go for one", then it's like trying to do something rare; the percentage chances go down, because you rarely do it. If you hit the shot many times, then your chances of getting it in when you need it are higher. I just tell my players, use the shots you hit regularly, because those are the ones your muscle memory knows and trusts. Hope this helps, and please keep up the great content on your journey!

    Good set, she moved a lot better than you and the backhand is a big weakness. Things like recovering from your serve since you're not serving big enough to consistently threaten her, she gets you off balance on that return. Felt like you were getting good results from deep forehands earlier in the set like in game one and then as you mentioned, they started getting shorter.

    Decent showing Winston. Noticed u have no loop on your BH. Have u ever considered adding one to your swing? I think it is the missing link that will supercharge your BH. It will help with all aspects: spin, power, rhythm and consistency. Against Lotti it will allow u to handle her pace consistently and hit the ball back deeper and with more bite. From the video i saw she has a very pronounced loop on her BH and it helped her counter your heavy FHs well. My coach just added a loop to my one hander and it is night and day now, especially on faster balls. Way easier to time and get more lift over net and spin. Rarely hit any balls into net now. Maybe Lotti can even give u some pointers ....

    Hey Winston, this is the second video of yours I've seen. Hope you don't mind me giving some unsolicited advice. First, your feet. I feel like you need to work more on your foot work, Lotti caught you flat footed a couple of times because you stopped moving to observe. As a result you tend to back step a lot while hitting the ball. Putting you on the defensive more than you should be as you are robbing yourself of time. Also you need to step into the shot instead of just turning to receive it. Prime examples of this are at 6:47 and 8:40. You had the time to line up and step into it, but out of habit you set up too soon. Remember it's about kinetic linking. Your legs give a lot of power and control to your strokes as well. It's not just the upper body. You can also learn a lot from Lotti, watch her foot work, as she takes many small steps to set up, and steps into her shots. I would also advise you to also start turning your shoulders more. Lotti's pretty good at it and she disguises a lot of her shots that way. A great example is at 6:43 where she actually does fool you as to where she's going to place the ball. We all learn from both our victories and defeats, hopefully you're learning from winning these days.

Look at your weight transfer as well. It looks like you're moving backwards or sideways a lot more than forward through contact. That will help with the depth.

    Really embarrassing result/play for Winston. One of the worst matches I've seen him play so far. She didn't play very well either, which makes it all the worse. I seriously doubt he's a 4.5 lol.

    Forget NTRP. UTR is far more accurate. I would bet her peak UTR is at least 0.5 higher than his, which would explain why she beat him.

    It’s more respectful to refer to female adults as women instead of girls. I’m sure you haven’t referred any men as boys in your videos and thumbnails.
