From Mehlman, for hormones in downs syndrome, if the hormone name has H, its high -> b-hcg and inhibin are high, estriol and AFP are low

Hi Dr. Neil, thanks for these! Any easy way I remember the fetal screening abnormalities with Down Syndrome is that the the elevated values are HI (beta Hcg and Inhibin.) The other two, alpha-feto protein and estriol are low.

About the treatment of CF: I think the answer could be Ibuprofen In the Step 1 USMLE book it is mentioned in the treatment section and it says that it slows disease progression Also I think we give pancreatic enzymes to CF patients when they develop pancreatic insufficiency (a complication of CF) Am I wrong?

Hello Dr. Neil ..I have a small doubt regarding the question at 24:50 ..like why not we gave Gentamycin to improve his current conditions of Pseudomonas infection and that too is respiratory infection whereas lipase has a pancreatic role THANKS
@RandyNeilMD
3 жыл бұрын
When I wrote this question, I was mainly focusing on the Cystic Fibrosis element...and not so much on lung versus pancreas feature. My original answer choices had a Fluoroquinolone which definitely confused people... On STEP 1 put the most appropriate, though on this question my intent was only to look at Global Diagnosis... This was a spinoff of a question I had seen from NBME.
Hi dr. Neil! I wanted to ask you that in first aid it is written that ibuprofen slows disease progression of cystic fibrosis. So in a question that asks the management of CF, which one should we select among ibuprofen or pancreatic lipase?
