Branching off our previous talk on neuro anatomy and cranial nerves, we're going to talk about the eye.
We'll start with general anatomy of the eye, including the layers of the eye. We will also discuss some physiology, including how the eye works.
Lastly, we will discuss common disorders of the eye, including:
Inflammation: conjunctivitis, uveitis, retinitis
Retinal detachment
Retinitis pigmentosa
Age related macular degeneration
diabetic retinopathy
Central retinal artery occlusion and central retinal vein occlusion
Raised intracranial pressure (ICP)- papilledema
Cataracts
And there's more! The last topic is refractive error. This is the most common reason for seeing an optometrist - bad vision. There are many causes of this including astigmatism, myopia, hyperopia, and presbyopia (farsightedness due to old age).
