@MrPopeye47 - Forespar has sold over 4,000 of these in-boom furlers worldwide. I personally know of around a dozen very happy and satisfied owners. One has reefed in 30-35 knots of wind with no problem, though he said was glad he had an electric winch to make the furling easier. As I say to everyone regardless of the product, find an owner who has one and ask them about it.

I have a leisure furl, and it is great. Should power fail it can be manually raised. Pays to be in decent shape for it...a fine way to reef at the battens and keep great sail shape.

@YakChap ... such a system is intended for keen sailers who may be of age and cannot lift the sail manually but who still wish to enjoy a sail ...

If you should loose electric power will this system still work ? Im not interested in electric winches but is there some sort of electric motor inside the boom that turns the reefing system?

how is the furling line handled on deck? In my application it goes from the cage to an upright block near the mast, turns there 90 degrees and goes through a deck organizer and from there aft to the clutch in the cockpit. This has given me problems in a breeze as the main pulls on the furling line which pulls too hard on the block.
