Due to the location of this door dent at the lower section of the door panel a whale tail tool was perfect to get down in between the outer skin and inner bracing. Whale Tail for the win!

Why did you start in the middle of this dent when others you started at the perimeter? Thank you Jeff

Hey Jeff, good question, I usually start in the middle if the dent is small or sharp, on larger repairs I often work outside in, there's no set right or wrong but check out this short video on Outside in or Inside out - kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZX532byulqvdfLA.html

Thanks again for your reply. Many youtuber's don't bother. So thank you! It's a great craft! I actually, much to the amazement of the mentor I had, was doing hail damage repairs after my first day of training. I always liked working with my hands and guess I got that talent form my late father. @@LearnPDROnline

Hey Tom nice whale tail demo I suppose if previously repainted then glue pulling was also not an option.

Hey Bill, that was one of my concerns but to be honest my preference would still have been to use the whale tail from behind. Once I got the tip behind the dent, it was very easy to lever off the internal bracing and although this dent wasn't big it was fairly deep for a small one so I was able to bring up the centre quickly and cleanly. If I were to glue pull I would probably have tried a small black ice round tab and a robo lifter but I think this may have not been as effective at bringing up the centre.

Outstanding buddy ! Why NOT glue pull ???

Thank you Bobby! With this one it was a lot quicker and cleaner to remove with the whale tail, although the dent was small it was fairly deep so I needed to get the centre of the low up and 'tighten' the metal. I believe the glue would have been harder to pull out flush so more likely to leave a ripple when cross checking and would have taken longer to remove!

Do you start from top to bottom of the dent or do you start in the middle and work your way up and down?

Good question, to be honest I decide that on each dent, if a dent is large and soft/shallow I often start from outside and work my way in but if the dent is small and sharp I usually start from the deepest part and work it out. Also depends on what tool I can access the dent with, so it may be a case I can only get a certain tool to the dent such as a whale tail so the selected tool also is part of the decision.
