I always like coming back to this video. I went to USF and I was sitting in the student section of this game. I remember all the black students made it their mission to come out to cheer on FAMU's band. It was a great feeling. Plus my cousin being in the band was an added bonus. I will always be a fan of FAMU Marching 100 ❤

In 99, we played UM for our first game. I don't even remember their band performing at halftime. Props to USF!

@war4christ actually we in hot band were really excited to see them perform. we know how great they are, but we use two different marching/playing styles completely. theres like no comparison between what we both do. either way, none of felt bad for having to "compete" with FAMUs band, because its all about fun. not trying to outdo each other.

I'm in 2019. And yea you right famu wasn't trying to outdue y'all. But tbh hbcu's are always trying to outdue one another. That what makes it so fun. When you look at our faces when we are marching in, we have our war face on because to us we're going to War. And when you know you got the victory you play gangsta boo. Look it up on KZread. I really like southern and Jackson State version

Well normally the away band performs first, but I think the band director kinda knew the excitement level the "The Hundred" was about to bring into the building. FAMU is known for their band. As the annocenter so elequently put it...they are one of the best bands IN THE WORLD! USF did do a good job, FAMU just brought the house down. They are an HBCU Icon in the band world...as well as Grambling, Jackson State, Southern University and FAMU's arch enemy band "The Marching Wildcats" of BCU.

I have worked in halftime performances for over 25 years... most recently the 2020 Super Bowl. I can say that it is always a charm to see white people enjoying HBCU bands

  • @Blakmajik78

@war4christ lol this is actually a good show...the styles are different. FAMU (HBCU) is use to halftime being a competition VS the other band so they will leave it all on the field. Show style marching is intense from start to finish with the dance routine WHILE PLAYING as the finale. Corps shows are usually themed, techincal and very precise with formations. I think what wowed that particular crowd is that they don't see many show style bands let alone one of THE BEST HBCU bands in the US.

I couldn't watch the first band more than a few minutes w/o feeling seasick. I wonder why they move that way? So many schools call themselves a "marching band" yet don't march. I've never seen a band w/sheet music on the field either. Weird! If you don't know the song, you sit out. SHOCKINGLY! I thought FAMU was dreadful. This must have been an off performance. They, too, do that non-marching thing where people float around. They were so messy everywhere - sounds, order, formations, some didn't even know the dance. Very disorganized. ??? I should probably stick to FAMU 100 that doesn't try to be everything to everyone on the planet. There's a reason why Southern University's The Human Jukebox is so successful; it's extremely well-organized, disciplined, and well-practiced (FIVE hours a day). Best sound on the planet. The fact that the Jukebox can also entertain is secondary.

The way the first band March is extremely common and is how almost every band outside of HBCUs March. It looks clean and effortless. Its also how DCI (Professional marching band) performs. So educate yourself.

What did this have to do with anything? Do you feel that threatened by FAMU that you have to bring up something from a decade ago? And like the other guy mentioned, there are bad people in every band program. Go be stupid somewhere else.
