In high school machine shop class (1978) we made a little whistle engine, which reminded me of your project. There was a big shaper we had to use for the base. Great fun watching your videos, and learning new things.

It works!! For those bolt holes that need to line up, in the past I have tacked the parts together, drilled and taped the holes, then cut off the weld. It is a bit more mucking around, but I have never had a bolt hole not line up using this method.

Useless project? You made an oil weight comparitor. Lube up the flywheel with different grades of oil and see how far it will fling it.
