Such a great software! I've been using it a lot recently and i'm very happy with the results. It's a lifesaver to me, especially because i take photos on a budget kit (6" dobsonian, homemade equatorial platform and 5000-6400 ISO) which allows me a maximum of 15 seconds of traking. I recommend you guys to try it!

Great images, Trevor! I have been using Topaz Denoise for some time now, mainly for wildlife photograph, and it does a great job. Tonight I used it on a mono image of M97 and the results are fantastic! Really worth the price. 👍🏻

This could (will) be revolutionary for amateur astronomers. This app works fantastic on either photography or astro-photography, from what i've seen for astro, a range of 1 to 5 seems to be best on de-noising. Sometimes I see where it might need even less de-noising, but the noise in black space is gone, something I've had a lot of, can't wait to fix old images....Awesome find Trevor!

Thanks for the video Trevor. Been using Topaz tools for many years. I have been finding these tools are great for Astro-images also. I have every software tool Topaz makes and use them for denoise, detail and color rendition. Also use them as Photoshop plugins. In addition to being really good software, Topaz supplies lifetime updates at no charge. Keep up the great video training!

I've been using DeNoise AI for a couple of months now. I too have reprocessed some of my old images. If used correctly it is simply amazing.

I tried DeNoise AI on M33, which was my second captured & processed image using an 8" RC so it definitely needed help. All things considered it wasn't a terrible image, but it was far from a clean one. I was so blown away with the difference DeNoise AI in "auto mode" made on this image that I had to come back to say Thank you Trevor for reviewing this tool. Now, I'm headed back to Photoshop to explore DeNoise AI further. Great stuff that you do Trevor, thanks for all the help, pointers and generous sharing of your experiences and opinions.

I came upon a video on another channel regarding Topaz AI and the guy was doing comparisons on landscapes and wildlife. I immediately wondered how Topaz AI would work on astrophotography so I entered a query and arrived here. Great video and demonstration on how it actually works here! Thanks for this! I am going to try the trial version to do a few of my milkyway photos and moon photos! If I like it I'm goiong to buy it!

I tried this program right away and WOW it works so good I almost can't believe it. It preserves the highlight very well and smooths out the background noise in a natural way. Works much better than what Pixinsight has to offer but that might be just me not using the correct settings.

Trevor, thanks for sharing. This a game changer for me. I work with APP and PI and this software will save me hours of fiddling around with masks and denoise settings in PI. As I don’t work in PS, having to convert the non-linear image from .fits or .xism to .png is a bit of a pain, but the results are definitely worth it. The software even removed some pesky aberrations around my stars, which I just could not get rid of. Sold. 😁

I have played around with this and Nik's define 2 it's not easy to distinguish a winner as there are ways you can use layer masks to save detail and denoise an image at the same time. Great Vid

Downloaded Topaz Denoise a few days ago and have been using it on my astropics. So far, I'm very happy with it and I'll probably buy a license fairly soon. Well before the end of the free trial period, anyway. One thing I have noticed and that's when you run it through an image, the images tend to brighten up a bit as the program does its job. Getting rid of the noise seems to give the pics a bit more pop. Since I also do "normal" photography as well, I'll be using it on my other photos too. Also been thinking about trying out some of their other programs, especially the sharpening app.

Great video Trevor! Just bought this yesterday and it's been amazing so far, the noise reduction in Pixinsight is ok but I definitely felt like it could be better so I went with this and I notice the difference straight away.

I downloaded Topaz last night, and gave it a try. It's almost like magic! I'm using a modified Canon T3i.

Awesome as always. Never heard of this before - it is sort of like the noise reduction in Lightroom only better. I like your idea of making a NR version and placing it as a layer on the original. Cheers Kurt.

That looks like an awesome piece of software. I've been using the regular denoise tool in affinity just targeting the shadows and protecting the highlights by using masks, brushes, and tweaking the blend ranges. Right now I'm just looking for a software that reduces stars that isn't expensive like pixinsight or Photoshop long term.

honestly, i tried it some time ago and didnt really like it beacause it blurred out to much detail in the dark areas. but after that video ill give it a second try because i didnt come to the idea to apply it as a layer to control things. awesome video as always thanks a lot!

Trevor, I absolutely love every single one of your videos! I know it's been said a good bit before but, have you ever thought about streaming on Twitch/KZread? Even if it's just you explaining your setup process, gear, and target for an hour and then some imaging and talking for a bit. You could also stream some image editing on days that you have time. I feel like if anyone could make 2 hours of taking photos and editing fun you most definitely could! Not saying you need/want the extra revenue but streaming could probably help fund your AP setup too since the hobby is just so crazy expensive. Just a thought, I know I myself would be watching you do AP while out there doing it myself!

Pretty cool program. I like Topaz Lab's bundled program set for $179 USD. I'd love to see that GigapixelAI used with some astrophotos I've seen, yours and others. Get living room wall sized images, printed at your local print shop, of course. When I get working again, and get the money to get my stuff back up and running, and replaced. Thanks for the video.

Works well for foregrounds in astro landscapes too, in fact i actually mask out the sky because i dont like the results of the milky way with DeNoise, but yes its useful in many different ways thanks for the vid.

Got this piece of software a couple months ago with a dicount and use it for nightscapes, landscapes and wildlife. It does an incredible job on uniform skies and out-of-focus backgrounds while maintaining details on animals or buildings. My only problem with Topaz DeNoise is the speed: With a 45MP PSD file it takes 10-20 seconds to show the preview and more than a minute to save the file. Compared to similar plugins e.g. Nik Dfine this is hell of a lot slower.

Ok, I was skeptical to begin with, then I downloaded it for the free trial. It's pretty damn good at reducing irritating noise to zilch! Made the difference I was after... Purchasing now!

I been using De-noise and than AI for better than 20 years on astro images. My favorite sharpening tool is Focus Magic, fantastic for gaseous nebulae.

I kept seeing ads on Instagram for topaz denoise for weeks now. Glad you reviewed it, I can make a better decision now. But, it was pretty hard to see differences on the highly compressed KZread video. Is it possible to upload samples for us to see?

I've been using Topaz Denoise for a while, very effective but in some ways I find it a bit harsh for astrophotography, even at minimum settings. Particularly for stars. I prefer to use it in steps, taking it easy with the opacity slider in PS :)

Alessandro Cernuzz Often adds strange effects to small stars which end up pixelated and loosing their shape

Exactly what I was looking for. Just one more justification to purchase it 😉.

DxO Optics also uses a good de-noising tool. Have you looked into that? I would also reckon that most people would use PI for their astrophoto processing needs.

How mechanically inclined are you? A Canon T4i is a couple of hundred dollars on ebay, and check out Gary Honis' video on removing the UV/IR filter, and replacing it with a clear filter from Astronomik, IIRC. For $300 or so, and a bit of careful disassembly and reassembly, you can be taking astro photographs.

Would you normally mask back in the "wacky" colors in the tadpoles?

I think if you apply the noise reduction to the starless and stars separetly maybe you can preserve some colors masking it easly. If you already tried this what was your results?

With regards to astrophotography, is it best to use Topaz on a finished image or one where the color channels are still in their linear state, before being itegration?

I have been using this for a few weeks, but have some issues (at least I think so). When I use the program, and am reviewing the settings and effects the different settings are having in the image, the changes and resulting noise reductions look fantastic. But when applying the changes, and then reviewing the image back in lightroom, the changes made do not match what I saw in the image preview in Denoise Ai. Somtimes I have a hard time telling which photo I used Denoise on compared to the original. Have you experienced anything like that.

jfyi, regarding min hardware reqs... i know this will sound lame to everyone, but i'm using this software on a Phenom X4 955 8gb ram + RADEON 6850 1GB, so way below specs and still works. I know, i need to upgrade my rig, when i have money and time, i have had many others priorities.

how does this really compare though vs PixInsight's multiscaleliineartransform tool and also tgvdenoise?

I tried a few kind of denoise software, this one is the most power one, but it runs a little slow

At what point in your processing is it best to use this tool? Is it best to use while the image is still linear(before stretching)?...or later in the process?

Noise reduction should be done in multiple stages. And yeah, the first stage would be while your data is still linear. Iterative stretching, sharpening and noise reduction always beats one big adjustment.

Hello, i have been watching your videos for a long time now and i want to ask you what i can possibly shoot with my equipment. I have an astromodified Canon EOS 1100D DSLR Camera with a Canon Zoom Lens EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 III, 1.5m/4.9ft and my telescope is an old one, the Omegon Telescope N 130/920 with an EQ-2 only and a 6mm ultra-wide eyepiece which i bought separately. I'm interested in planets as well as in deep-sky objects, for example the orion nebula. I would also like to photoshoot the milky way or any deep sky objects. Can you recommend me how i can setup my equipment and what i'm able to photograph and what kind of settings i should use with this ''low equipment''? Thank you so much already!

AI - another name for a program. If it’s called an AI it must be worth more.

Always use masks. Do one run on the bright stuff and another on the dark. Go EASY on noise reduction. And always do it last, with maybe only some color enhancements after. Otherwise weird artifacts with start showing up.

and then you post them in Instagram and %ucks up your pictures again
