    My biggest complaint is those whose photos never stand still. Instead of studying the composition, the "fine art" of the picture, you get these movements picture after picture so that you are actually looking at the darn animation rather than studying the intent of the photographer. Like transitions, movement of the frame should be limited and used sparingly - and for effect only.

    We all have our likes. I'm a commercial photographer and these types of movements add a tad of pizzazz to an Instagram page, that for me, attracts more clients.

    @@harrisongould9460 - And also as a pro photographer (Commercial, Boudoir and Glamor) I like to concentrate on the quality and artistic elements of the photographs. You know, the old essentials of Capture the eye, retain the eye, and convey the message. Hard to do with bouncing and continuous movement. But I have to admit it's an excellent way to detract, hide quality if it is poor, and to mask possible poor composition and image narration. But then, I don't use Instagram, TikTok or have any need of the social media. Quality speaks for itself and also attracts clients. We all have our own styles and taste. As long as it works well for you, go for it. Take care, and keep the videos coming....

    Totally agree with you.. it can be so annoying seeing a stills photo moving. There's a difference between stills and videos unfortunately youtubers (amateurs) blur the line.. just imagine watching the news and Foxs or ABC keep spinning the stills... now if you want to setup a stills slideshow then make it a video of it's own and if you're going to reference a photo, I think the safest bet it to keep stills Still..

    Good to see you are keeping up with your output considering you are probably busier now. Until near the end, I thought you had forgotten dynamic zoom. Also if people want a master example of the use of photos in motion any Ken Burns documentary shows all the techniques that are possible. Ken Burns is so famous for those techniques that a lot of software or tutorials tend to call it the "Ken Burns Effect". The lens blur thing could also have a gradient mask applied to it and give the photo a depth of field type effect. But I think that would require going to the color tab, which is not the idea in your tutorial. ( All done from the edit page ). I have seen Premiere users complain that there is no mask functionality on the edit page in resolve. You would think that would be a welcome addition to the edit page for editors. When are your live streams coming back? Good stuff Jay, Keep it up.

  • @JayLippman

    @JayLippman

    3 жыл бұрын

    Haha I batch recorded a bunch of stuff before the baby came so I would have videos coming out while I was taking a break. Ken Burns is amazing! I should have done some SEO research on that before I titled this lol. Having some sort of masking capability would be nice in the edit page, but honestly with my workflow I dont really miss it until I want to do some layering of video clips, which isn't all that often. Live streams are coming back soon! I'm aiming for next week, but it all depends on whats going on with the baby.

    Great video. I hadn’t heard about the compressor before, so great tip. I use stills as pic in pic and like to have a border. I struggled until I heard about the dve effect - game changer for me. One question, how much do you think it is possible to increase zoom on an image before it loses significant definition. My images are around 5MB. You only changed the zoom by tiny amounts. Thanks.

    While these are great tips to make things a little more interesting, I see people going way too far with this on Photography channels, like the pan, when I JUST WANT TO SEE AND OBSERVE THE PHOTO. not try track a certain spot because it's panning constantly. Gives us headache rather than enjoying the image. So people please use this sparingly, especially if you want people to enjoy your image. Seen the blur thing done badly too, where it takes way too long and you don't get to see the full image long enough. I swear some people don't actually watch their own videos. Nice video btw.

    LOL I agree. I think if you're going to use this in a photography video, I would do the drop shadow on an off white background, and maybe a SLIGHT dynamic zoom. No pans though. Pans drive me crazy when I just want to see the photo.

    Well everybody there own taste ... 😊 But i absolutely hate those blacking fills { 2nd example } You see them a lot on tik tok and portret movies on youtube. For me they are distracting espacially when both fill and photo or movie are moving. I bet i'm not the only one.. but people are doing it often because they can, it is a hype or the video maker likes it ... So what whould you advise if you like to use images but not like to move them but stil draw attention to them? I guess there should be other methods too right ? Keep them posting ... 😊 👍

    There are for sure ways to put photos in videos, not have them move, and still find them interesting. One of the best ways is to use some sort of textured background behind the photo and a drop shadow effect on the photo layer.

    H Jay: I've been following you for over a year, and I really enjoy your videos. I have learned a ton However, I must say that I don't like your recent color grade in your videos. The teal and gold is not that attractive (to me at least), and it looks to me like there is a soft filter on the videos. They lack crispness. I suspect this is on purpose, as I am seeing this in a couple of other KZreadrs who post on Davinci Resolve. Just my thoughts. Otherwise, keep up the great work. Dean

    Hey Dean! There actually is a Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter on my lens, because I find that my lens is a little bit too sharp for my liking (great for photography though). As for the color grade, a lot of that is lighting, and it's done to add depth because the wall is basically the same color as my skin, and it's a small space. Without it everything looks super flat. I'm open to suggestions though. I'm getting a little tired of this particular look myself lol.

    no offense, but it's super frustrating to not see right up front... in the first 10 seconds... where a project is going. Please consider showing , again, ---in the first 10 seconds or so--the final result of all of your tips and effects for any tutorial video. As it is, I scrubbed through your video and decided, eventually, that while the effects are pretty cool they are not what I'm looking for to use in my client's project. PS: the only reason why I'm spending the time right now putting in all of this commentary is that I ~~want~~ to like your videos. Clearly you are a very talented editor with a lot to offer. But showing us up front, in the very beginning, where the project is going,... for me, that's a must-have. I won't be subscribing, liking, sharing... or saving to my Tutorials list.. if it's not there. FWIW....

    An absolutely essential view for anyone that is a content creator on KZread or even streaming. At some point you'll need to show a picture to your audience, you can just show it... or you can be a professional quality result with a 15min video and an hour of extra effort AT MOST. Fantastic work @JayLippman 55k
