This is such great information. I am using resolve v17.2.2 on my mac. But now when I use the K key to stop my playhead jumps back to where it started before moving forward or back. I want it to stop and stay where it is now - not jump back to the starting point. I realize now that the same thing happens when I clip the square stop button in the timeline preview window. I was playing around trying to figure out short cut keys and I was pressing a lot of keys randomly so that might have corrupted something? Should I uninstall v17 and then reinstall a clean version of 17 to fix this? I do not remember having this problem in v16. Please help. What do I need to do to get the playhead to stay put when I stop the scrolling???

Yes - the old JKL keys - the ripple trim keyboard shortcuts were a little quick in here. I find that a lot of people come to Resolve via Premiere Pro and one of the most used key shortcuts is "Q" and "W" - I have even seen people wrongly say that Resolve can't do that. Which of course is wrong. I think the problem is that Premiere calls it something entirely different so they miss that in Resolve. I came via that same route for editing in Resolve and used the Q and W in Premiere - so I sussed it out and in Resolve the same functions is called: "Start to Playhead" and "End to Playhead" respectively. So once I set those up - right hand on the JKL and I or O and left hand on the Q or W - and no fumbling ( for me ) with hold down shift or Alt or anything else. Can concentrate on the edit. But my workflow on something like you have above would be to drop over length clips and then use the Q and W, to trim, while playing back. I just realized that I still have not set up any key for dropping the footage in after setting the in and out. I believe it by default is one of the F2 or F3 or something. I don't generally have my keyboard to use the F keys at all - I guess I should figure that out - so I can edit without a mouse as well. Keep em coming , buddy - You are paying it forward. There are a lot of people happy about that. cheers

F9 will append a clip to the end of the timeline. I think F10 will insert at playhead, but I can't remember lol. I used to use Q&W in Premiere as well. I just never bothered changing any of the defaults in Resolve. Thanks Jim!

But, there was a long wait and lets face it, its big money for what it is. After using the shuttle now for two months, I am so glad I did. Many people I know have said they got there's and it was almost like they had to relearn their workflow to get the most out of it. The Shuttle is a fraction of the price (especially used) and I mapped and labelled it for me. Literally within a few days, I wasn't even looking at the buttons/controls while I was using it. Along with Editors Keys board like yours, im absolutely flying along.

For me (and many others) it would be great, if there's a shortcut for setting speedpoints - it destroys the smooth flow while editing when you permanently have to use the mouse. A DR admin in the forum once said 'it is surely no problem to use the mouse for that function, you don't need this...' maybe he's not an editor 😜. There are so many other more or less useful keys like shift-JKL. For the left/right key I use a rotary encoder to position smoothly to the desired position 👌🏽 along wit other shortcut buttons. As always, i appreciate your nice tutorials 👍🏽👍🏽

Too bad the JKL combos don't work (NO SINGLE FRAM or SLO FWR?BACK) when watching your video in KZread. Your fingers are just too fast. Besides some of us old gezzers just need to see things like ICONS to pick with the mouse. Besides if one makes the WRONG KEY STROK it can take HOURS to fix. Don't get me wrong You taught me about "JKL" i didn't know that holding 'K' while hitting the J/L key single frames. Time is NOT a PRIORITY with us O'l Gezzers, (I edit for FUN) WORK is a 4 letter word. Besides I'm thinking of buying the BM Speed editor or the $99 Contour ShuttlePRO V.2 - shuttle wheel - USB. I edit sitting in my Recliner with the keyboard in my and the cordless mouse on the right arm and the Contour ShuttlePRO V.2 - shuttle wheel - USB would be on the left arm.
