Those "ad breaks" are called eyecatches. They happen after commercial breaks. They're short little animations or sometimes just a still picture to let viewers know that the show is back on. Pretty much every anime has em. Also those are rice buns. They can be filled with anything! :)

And this is noticeable when the first years are acting up or even when Asahi’s anxiety takes hold of him. I think their relationship as captain and vice captain is so beautifully written, I just wish my captains were the same 🥺🥺

@@victoriabrowne sometimes the translations are a little bit off and that’s more often the case in the english dub than the english sub but even in the subtitles there are some things which aren’t translated to well because some japanese words are hard to translate to english alsoo personally i’ve noticed that the translations can seem a lot more harsh than original and also japanese is a subtle language and very nuance based and english… well relatively speaking it isn’t i hope that helps you understand haikyuu and anime in general better

The translation for the title seems all over the place. A more accurate translation seems to be a timid person's anxiety rather than coward.

So a little discrepancy between the sub and the dub will always be there

They are eating the ones with different pork fillings, but there are also other fillings like beef, red bean, etc. They can be dessert-y or savory. Edit: Also, the curry buns are curry pork buns. the food that they were eating is what they called a meat bun in the anime but for a more technical term in japanese is nikuman or in chinese a bao(pronounces bow) and it is a bread like food that can have various different meat or sweet fillings but this one in particular has meat(though idk which one as it wasn’t specified😅)

I'm just gonna mention that if you can, you might want to watch this on Crunchyroll. There's gonna be a lot of game play in this and writing all over the screen and the Netflix sub will get confusing because they are all at the bottom. Just a heads up, but you don't have to.

Anime is pretty much part of mainstream television in Japan so they have half time breaks for commercials and stuff.

The food Hinata ate was steamed buns. It's called Nikuman in Japanese and made from flour dough and filled with meat and other vegetables. It's cheap and tasty! Also, there are a variety of steamed buns such as curry, pizza etc. In general, you can see them in a grocery/convenience store in Japan. But I believe you might find them in an Asian market in the US, too.

I'm not an athlete or involved in the sports world, but I've always admired the ability of athletes to play under so much pressure, I can't imagine how hard that must be sometimes. Glad there are people out there like you that give advice to those with that kind of anxiety, I know I would probably be a mess if I were in their shoes :) I rewatched this show recently with my brother to prepare for the latest season, there's so much to look forward to, I'm glad you're having fun with it so far!

Here's some info before you go into the next ep. Karasuno will be playing a non official practice match against Aoba Johsai aka Seijoh. Seijoh has a history of being a top 4, and one of the competitors of being the best team in the Miyagi Prefecture. Seijoh also includes some former teammates of Kageyama which you will also see. In addition, 2 times a year there is a National Level tournament in Japan. Each prefecture (state) will have a preliminary tournament which chooses who can go to Nationals. (Usually bracket style of 8 to 16 teams depending on the population of the prefecture). The number of teams able to go to Nationals also varies from 1 to 3. In Miyagi, it's only 1. Therefore, if Karasuno wants to make it to the (summer) Inter High National Tournament or the (Spring) National Tournament they must win the preliminaries and become number 1 in the prefecture of Miyagi.

I also love that, as a volleyball player, you identify several technical things (for example, I thought it was only aesthetics to throw your arms back to jump). 16:45 You noticed it too! Tsukishima and Hinata are character foils, not just in terms of personality, appearance, playing style but in their names too. Tsukishima (月島) has the moon kanji (月) in his name whereas Hinata (日向) has the sun kanji in his (日) - just to really nail it in

8:25 Tsukishima and Yamaguchi are also first years. They are standing together with Shoyo and Kageyama as their upperclassmen welcome them to the team. 14:27 Shoyo is eating a type of bun (filling is unknown but I think it's probably a meat bun). You can buy meat buns at some Asian supermarkets or Asian bread stores. Either that or you could look for a recipe and make it yourself.

The thing Hinata is eating is just a meat bun but their basically buns that’s why curry buns were mentioned :) Also the commercials in between are just small animations bc when this is aired in Japan I am guessing there are actual commercials between the anime. The water bottles are there bc they are practicing their aims in serving, they use it to try aim to hit the bottle. There’s also some for their quick too. For the thing you couldn’t read it just showed their positions for the practice match, I can’t see it clearly but it was: Back row (left to right): WS: Tanaka, MB: Hinata, WS: Daichi Front row (left to right): S: Kageyama, MB: Tsukishima, WS: Ennoshita And Subs: Sugawara (Setter), Yamaguchi (MB), Kinoshita (WS), Narita (MB) I think, although it may be wrong... I went with their relative positions 😅

Someone’s probably said this already but here’s some clarification if you’re confused. Tsukisima and Yamaguchi are first years as well as Hinata and Kagayama. They were all playing a three on three. Each pair with one club member (a second or third year) as an almost welcome- assess your skills kind of game. When hinata and kagayama passed the pieces of paper to the club captain, that was their club admission form that daichi (captain) had previously refused to accept from the pair when they were fighting (I remember you being confused about the paper in a previous video). By taking the paper this time daichi has essentially accepted them into the club.

Seeing so many players comment on haikyuu is the best, since it only helps speak to the anime/manga's realism because everyone points out something new for me on rewatches. 13:20 I like hearing that CAUSE OH BOY ARE YOU IN FOR SOME HISTORY

It’s just a commercial break. Something common on anime when the scene stops and they are showing adds for everything. And the bottle is a common serve drill -_- 😂, for aim.
