    What I've learned so far: 1. Get a thermal camera 2. Plug the thing in 3. Identify the hottest component 4. Unplug the thing 5. Remove the hottest component 6. Plug in again and inspect 7. If the thing is not working go to step 3 8. Unplug the thing, send to client 9. Profit!!!

    Great video. I used to work at a place called Haven Lighting where part of what I did was to troubleshoot failed circuit boards. On some of the larger ceramic caps (0805, 1206), I could tell that the short circuit on the board was located in the cap if it appeared to be cracked, even just a little.

    I heard you mention in one of your previous videos that you used to be a software engineer. I find it very interesting that you did that, since even though both jobs require excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills they are still quite different. Could you make a video about your previous career as a software developer and transition to electronics repair engineer? I think many people (myself included) will be very interested in it.

    Amazing video and good diagnosis. How would you find a replacement capacitor without seeing any printed information on the old capacitor?

  • @m4th1js

    @m4th1js

    3 жыл бұрын

    Lot of times it will work fine without the capacitor, because most of the caps around an ic are bypass capacitors to suppress noise. When there is no noise, they do not do anything. When it is a big cap, it will suppress low frequency noise, when it is a small cap, it suppresses high frequency noise. Normally you will see big caps on the start of the power lines on the board, and small caps as close to the ic's as possible. It is not needed to exactly match the value if you want to replace it. Lots of times the same are used on a board around the different ic's, so you can just measure another one to get an idea of the value. In this case it is not needed to replace it because he can get the data off it without it.

    The plungers with your flux. Are they just floating, or do they attach to the syringe piston? The reason I ask is because with big syringes, residual pressure from compression of the piston can cause very substantial oozing. If the plunger doesn't latch onto the piston, there's no way to relieve that pressure by pulling back on the plunger.

  • @xxycom8963

    @xxycom8963

    The multimeter continuity setting (i.e. the setting where it beeps, if the two probes are touched) makes the measurement with DC. A good capacitor behaves like an open circuit to DC, so when you put the multimeter probes at the two ends, it will not beep. But if the capacitor is shorted the meter will beep. By the way Hussain, a good job as always 🙂

  • @DavidWilson-vo5rl

    @DavidWilson-vo5rl

    He checks continuity across the capacitor. That bleep from the multimeter means its shorting (closed circuit). Alternatively, you can check if there is resistance across it and if there is, that's the same as a short.

    The problem in the European countries is that if we order the flux from USA shipping and customs are going to cost more then the flux himself. Price of it at my country for the 559, 10cc packaging is $6 - $10, which is unreal (Probably they sell a fake one), they do not have the production date or expire date at all
