I am so thankful for this video. I broke my flash drive and I thought I had to say goodbye to all my data. I called a few IT stores and they all quoted me over $400. Well after watching this video I decided to test my luck. The broken pieces on my flash driver were similar to the ones in this video. So I tried the option of aligning the broken pins to the connector. It took a few tries, but it lit up and I was able to hold it in place and retrieve all my data. Thanks for making this so simple. I hope someone else has the same luck I had!

Oh my goodness!! I was going to cry and I don't know what else. I bent my flash drive in which I had stored all of my coursework for this unwanted class I had to take for the Florida Dept. of Education. I did everything I could to try to get this thing to work. Your video was the first one to come up, so I decided to watch it. I was able to open the plastic that encloses the components of the flash drive. I saw the pins you were talking about and, as you said, I don't have a small soldering iron. So I used my thumbnail (actual thumbnail). Good thing it was long and was able to hold those pins down enough so that I could get the one file I needed. I can get the others later on to move to another flash drive. It took only 2-3 minutes, but they were painful as I had to press down hard so that the pins stay down and I would not have to restart the whole process after three times of trying. Thank you so much. God bless you.

Thank you so very much for your time and effort in making such clear and concise video. This is one of those curve balls and and I need your help, if you don’t mind. I’m helping a friend with his program security USB. His kid knocked the USB out of his PC. The USB was bent and ultimately broken. With much difficulty I managed to open and take out the board. This board is not your “typical board” with 4 lines coming out of it. It is “U” shape with 4 points behind it. The question is how would I be able to determine the appropriate pins? Can I share with you a picture of the board? I couldn’t find any diagrams on line either. Thank you in advance.

I did the wires to usb board and it started to flash a red light and started smoking it doesnt work for me
So I dropped my flash drive on accident and there seems to be no damage on it and when I connect the usb the light on it quickly flashes once and it stays off after that does that mean the flash drive doesn’t have power going to it when its connected?
Do you need flux to solder at 1:50min? soldering the wires to the board vs cpu. Also my USB doesn't have a metal connector, its like a flat brown spot. is it ok to solder to that or would i need to connect to the cpu? It is a retractable Cruze USB. 4 connection points.

You always need to apply flux on exposed copper wires or PCB traces. Can you show me a close-up high resolution image of your drives PCB?

I tried to connect the wires to the board then connecting it to my pc to see if it works, the pc recognized the sound board(usb) but the next day when I tried again my pc didn't recognized the sound board anymore, I just kept hearing the connecting usb sound. How do i fix it ? I want to make sure the sound board is recognized by pc before soldering.
i have a flash drive with all of the metal on the plug-in parts. all 4 pad are completely ripped off the board. where you only can see green spots where they were on the board itself. i have a soldering iron coming in a few days. i have cord i can cut and use what would be the best method to continue.

You have to wire your USB 3.0 drive in 2.0 version. So for data transfer you will use only those two pins in the needle of the connector and ignore the rest. You can see at 1:23 where white and green wires should go.
