Let's face it, not everyone has been doing electronics for years. In an effort to make this channel more inclusive I'm going to cover some basics from time to time.
It doesn't have to be neat or perfect, you just need to get the job done adequately and get your device up and running again as quickly as possible.
In this video I go over some USB basics and sort out a faulty cable on a USB Microphone/Headphone Audio Adapter / Dongle so I can get on with editing other videos!

Nice repair.
out of curiosity does it send the audio thru the 2 data pins or all 4? how about the mic and ground.. im seeing 5 cables. im wondering is this how usb headphones work? is it just this with different housing and direct solder leads from headset to soundcard to usb?

The black and red wires are 5V DC, they are only used for power. The IC under the blob has a USB protocol for transferring data to and from the computer, it also has an analogue to digital converter for the microphone and a digital to analogue converter for the headphones. The extra pins are on the ground plane, in that design it would use a USB plug, the shielding for the plug is directly connected to the ground pin which is the black negative wire.
Can these things work for dynamic microphones?

Yes, that’s what I used it for.
I couldn't measure the power, however it worked the same way!
