Usal Road- Four Wheeling Nor Cal's Lost Coast (and the best campsite yet)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
A friend and I set off to run Usal Road- one of Northern California's hidden gems. Dense forests, water crossings, and beach camping were just some of what we encountered on what may be my favorite trail yet.

I freaking LOVE The Lost Coast!! Thanks for sharing! ❤️ I stayed in Westport last week and could see it in the distance from where I was staying! 😍

You've got to check out Usal Road then. Amazing views mixed with remote forests, and it is fairly easy terrain wise.

@@rohrsoutdoors Really? I didn't think my Honda Element could do it. It's not 4WD. You're tempting me though!! 😁

@@caligirlx916 I think you could, as long as it wasn’t just after a rain. I’ve seen videos that had Subarus running it. Bring another vehicle for sure though, and next trip I’m bringing a chainsaw.

@@rohrsoutdoorsGood idea about about a second vehicle. Something that could pull me out of a rut 😂 And no kidding about the chainsaw! Haha!
Nice we were just here last weekend for memorial weekend. Glad I was able to experience this place but the Usal rd wasn’t open to where you guy was chopping the tree. Nice video!

Thanks- I didn’t realize they closed parts if the road. Do you know why?
Just got back from there. Thanks for chopping off that nub on the tree. Went through myself.

Omg. I need to go. I set a challenge to stay along the pch for less than $100 for 4 nights. On my way to Oregon from Texas.

Easy to do, stay on BLM land. If you don’t have the Gaia app, check it out.

What a great trip. I always have a small chainsaw with me as well as an ax.

It is not typically an issue in Southern California, we were caught off guard since it was our first time up north.

@@rohrsoutdoors I imagine not. They have some pretty sweet folding saws available these days as well.

Yes. A chainsaw and a high clearance 4-wheel drive vehicle are pretty much required for Usal Road.
Planing on going soon , just checking on a website that driving on the beach is not allowed anymore . How true is that ?

It was fine two months this ago, but things may have changed.

It wasn't fine when you did it..what you and others are doing is an issue
I read that even though lots of people do it, it’s illegal to drive and/or camp on the beach. Do you know if that’s true?

I have since heard it as well. There was nothing posted that we could see, and there were several people camped on the sand when we arrived, so it didn’t occur to me that it wouldn’t be okay.

check with local ranger stations, a lot of rumors about this but better to know for sure.

@@DIGITALCITY-wn4by correct, but in the absence of signs it’s hard to tell. I mostly try to enjoy the wilderness as I find it, in its most natural state. That is to say, that beach existed for a very long time without ranger stations.
Great video! How do I find this place? Just put Usal Beach in my GPS?

Look for signs though. Apparently you are not supposed to camp on the sand, when we were there we did not see any signage.

could a honda pilot make it that runs all terrain tires and has decent ground clearance also has the low range lock

I think so. The one variable to be cautious of would be rain- the trail could get pretty hairy right after a storm.

Driving on Usal beach has been prohibited for many years, but it’s one of those things where enforcement is lax and “everybody does it” is the norm. More barriers will be put up as damage to the beach increases, so go now before it’s closed.

We don’t get a whole lot of practice in the Mojave. A small chainsaw is in the plans for the return trip.
