Jamaican Usain Bolt sets a new Olympic record as he retains his 100m Gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics on the 5 August 2012.
Fellow Jamaican Yohan Blake finished second, with USA's Justin Gatlin taking the Bronze medal in the event.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men. =========================================

What I find crazy is that these guys go through years of training, gym sessions, track sessions, early mornings, diet regimes, physiotherapists, massages, sweat, tears, just to name a fraction of their journey....for what ultimately comes down to 10 seconds of effort. Everything they worked for, all their hard effort, their dreams, goals, etc. Can either come true or get crushed in 10 seconds. True athletes.

Tbh I see it as a waste of energy, but each to their own. Humans possess such a great body and brain they are much more suited for tasks that require agility and academics. Over practicing our bodies to make them do something which they were not made for is just a waste in my eyes as with same efforts on fields for which our body was designed would give us much higher jump. We remember the many top academics from hundreds of centuries ago but barely any athletes. Anyway, that's my take on it, anyone is free to do whatever they like lol.

It's the camera angle that makes it seem like he's behind. Look at the different camera angles at 12:33. You can see that even from the beginning he was never trailing. He is actually ahead very shortly into the race. It is somewhat of a myth that bolt has bad starts. His starts are very comparable to the other top sprinters. For his world record time of 9.58 he had an amazing start and was leading the field by 10 meters. Go watch the 2009 100 m finals and go to the part where they show the bird's eye view.

In my opinion, London 2012 will be the greatest summer Olympic Games of all time. It really felt like the best athletes of all time came together and just gave it 1001%. The competition was so intense from every sport, from Athletics to Gymnastics. While the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics had great aesthetics, it almost felt predictable who would win each event, and the competition wasn't as close.
