Thank you, Andrew, for introducing Jeff to your channel and the countless other expatriates who have chosen to base themselves in Malaysia. I can only image how difficult it must be for foreigners to relocate themselves to Malaysia; the paperwork alone seems to be a barrier. Even yet, it's encouraging to know that many more foreigners are making the effort to relocate here, despite the difficulties in acclimating to the new surroundings, climate, people, and other unspoken elements. Penang is a fantastic option, but KL is also may be good for you because it has plenty of quiet areas and you can still enjoy privacy while you're in your own house. We Malaysians are happy to have kind individuals from all over the world living with us and are appreciative if they can integrate into our civilized society. Thus, stay and chat with the locals as there are enough of friendly people to make you feel at home even though there are still a lot of other expats here that you can count on.

Great interview Taylor. Interestingly I am in an opposite conundrum. I am Malaysian, from mainland state of Kedah about 2 hours from Penang Island. I started college in Penang before completing my degree in US and I have spent my entire 30-year working career in Dallas, TX and hope to retire in the next 5-6 years. I wasn't aware of how hard it is to apply for the MM2H program. All my siblings are still back home so I have decided that it may be a good idea to keep my Malaysian citizenship just in case I change my mind in the future. In the meantime, the annual vacation between the States and Johor Bahru via Singapore to visit family will continue. Who knows I might decide to visit Penang this December. I miss the food there.

Great video Andrew Your guest's point on property prices is very real. No increase in value in Penang for the last 8 years and if anything prices have gone down by around 20%. Another class of guest you may like to interview are the local service providers. Hourly maid providers springs to mind along with car sales and real estate. The role of building managers and sourcing trades people is another. Thanks again

I didn't want to bring my cats into Malaysia until I secured a visa. Now that I've got the S-MM2H (after 18 months) I'm going to fly them out here in early March. I'm going to spend 3 weeks in February packing up the house in the US and making the final travel arrangements for the cats. Once I'm settled in maybe I'll be the one on the couch being interviewed? Warning, you might end up with a cat or two or three on your lap during the interview! 🐱

Thanks, Andrew, for allowing Jeff, the retired judge from the US, in your video. It's a good introduction to how an expatriate lives and works here on MM2H status. Let's hope all the paperwork will be done on time before Jeff decides on other options in March 2024. Penang is more or less a permanent choice, a food haven, and a slower pace of life than KL. Furthermore, Penang is the most suitable retirement spot and is in the top 10 in the world regarding retiring here, according to the travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler. Well, let's hope that more American expats will choose Penang as their destination in their golden years.

Andy, something just came to mind that Jeff might find fun and you could assist with, that being: As Jeff likes to entertain and has a lovely home to do so with, perhaps you could help him arrange a casual social New Mexico style BBQ party for local Malaysians and Ex-pats to meet up (including perhaps locals in the legal profession) to network and expand social relationships . Years ago I thought a-local-ex-pat social group would be a needed asset for the community.

Great interview as usual Andrew.I We have been catching up on your old videos and there was one where you talked about your background and that explained a lot ,you seem to be quite comfortable around people and you were once a window dresser? wow...we also have been admiring your shirts...we didn't see people walking their dogs in the parks when we were wandering around Kuala Lumpur..?? maybe I'm wrong... Anyway,I told my mum and dad to watch your youtube channel, they spent most of their overseas holidays in Europe, maybe your youtube would expand their horizons...

Andrew...your interviews should have some of the key questions like how do you find the people in Malaysia...the food...the weather...the nature...the quality of life...the different cultures... the difference between Malaysia and USA..culture shocks...the good & the bad experiences...the social life...cleanliness...etc...these are the things that we Malaysians would like to know as feedback so that we can better improve our country in welcoming foreigners like you. Just my thoughts.

Hi Andrew! Very much enjoying your videos on Malaysia. Your interviews with folks are informative and you ask the detailed questions that viewers appreciate and find helpful. One suggestion for a video: Considering your move to Malaysia several years ago, how easy (or difficult) would it be for someone in their 60s from N. America to move, solo, to Malaysia today? Two perspectives would be interesting: On a “try out” basis, such as renting, and a permanent basis, such as MM2H. Thank you-and more great, informative content from your channel!

That was a great interview! Thanks, Andrew. I'm glad to see more Americans choosing to live in Malaysia for retirement, and Jeff seems like a great person to get to know. I haven't decided yet if I will relocate to Malaysia later in life. For now, I'm staying put in Seattle because I love the weather here. However, I will visit Malaysia to see the family at least once a year. I hope we can meet up for lunch when I get back in 2025. Take care.

A problem of dogs in close contact of condos can be the incessant barking. We were in a condo in Canada with a neighbor's constant barking dog. Late at night. Something of a nightmare getting the Board to do something.

In Malaysia, if you meet the requirements set by the government, the process of all applications can be very easy. It can be a little faster or later, but it will be approved. You do not need to know anyone.

I wouldn't consider moving my Doberman to the tropics. I lived in the Philippines for five years and having a big scary type dog over there is not good for them. They get skin ailments, and locals are less accepting there than here. Here my Doberman, angel though he is, freaks alot of people out. I'd say wait until your dog passes before moving. I ain't going anywhere until his time is up. DO NOT sell your house! Rent it out. The "Paradise Syndrome" wears off after a few years. I returned homeless to expensive America and after four years Snowbird Boondocking in my RV finally found a desirable town that wasn't ridiculously over-priced. (Does the judge know Jules & Devon from Santa Fe? I think they had an art gallery or something. Family friends )
