Basic addition and subtraction didn't teach me how to read a 1099-B and deduce what magical information I have to report to the IRS in order to NOT pay huge fines and/or get jail time. Additionally, companies that are supposed to help you file your taxes are instead lobbying to make tax law more difficult for the average person to understand, all in the hopes that people like you and I will pay huge dollar amounts for them to wade through the red tape THAT THEY PUT THERE for us. Taxes are fucked up. Unless you're single filing status with no income forms other than your basic W-2, filing taxes can be a total and complete nightmare.
