Here in the U.S and even more so in the EU Tobacco products have been crucified in the media (and for good reason), while Alcohol still has a positive media presence and always has since the end of prohibition. If you grow up in a culture that says tobacco is horrible and will kill you, while also giving you ads of people drinking and having fun while drinking, youl obviously glaze over the problems alcohol has.

cognac = brandy, but just from the region of cognac. All scotch is whisky, all bourbon is whisky, but not all whisky is bourbon or scotch.

FYI: To make it easier to cleanse your pallet you should sniff coffee grounds. Seriously, it really clears your pallet if you are tasting different alcohols or doing like a flight tasting

I worked at Costco for a really long time, nearly a decade, and I worked predominantly in the liquor store. The selection of alcohols changes pretty frequently due to the nature of alcohol frequently suffering shortages, but I don't think I've had a Kirkland alcohol that I thought was bad for the price. Also, last time I went to buy it they were out of spiced rum, and from everything I went through when we were out of any kirkland product, I don't blame any employee for being filled with hate everytime someone asks for a sold out product. People are vile as hell when mildly inconvenienced

As a former Costco employee I cannot confirm nor deny that *Kirkland comes from the same lines as the others with a Kirkland label* Since I shamelessly tossed out that: here’s two more about Costco. They DONT ADVERTISE. They also, from corporate experience and seeing prices, truly don’t make but essentially a dime off of what you buy. Keep your membership if you want to support them, but purchasing things isn’t where they make money, that’s where they save you money. I love the place, if I don’t leave for family reasons I’d still be there today. Great pay and benefits.

At least in Canada, Kirkland gets their alcohol from the distilleries that make the brand names! Kirkland Vodka is Grey Goose and their Whisky is Crown Royal. Edit: When I said “gets their alcohol from” I meant just that. Besides Grey Goose the other brands I mention just produce the Kirkland stuff. It’s not necessarily the exact recipe as the name brands! I did more research and their “French vodka” which is actually made In the same style as and nearby the Grey Goode distillery. Their “American Vodka” is made in California (and is noticeably worse, IMO). Their “Canadian Whisky” IS Crown Royal and the “Bourbon” is Dickel.

distilleries bottle very selectively so they always have extra it's the same brand name distilled stuff but it's typically blended like a blended whiskey or just didn't meet their top teir quality standards so it gets sold off cheaper

Kirkland DOES have a single barrel bourbon but it's hard to find in most stores. And it's VERY good.

FYI Cogniac is a Brandy but from France that's the only reason it's called Cogniac. It's basically a trademarke because french are picky about their wine and their Brandy. And liquors can be made with brandy but not Cogniac because french would rather waste their bad batches or not so good yields on Grand Gala, Blue coracao or Grand Marnier than use their Cogniac with high yields same with other countries. And fun fact Brandy is just typically all around low yielded grapes that can't or shouldn't be made into wine.
