US 82nd Airborne Division - D-DAY 1944

Indrukwekkende beelden van de operaties van de Amerikaans 82nd en 101nd Airborne Divisie tijdens de invasie van Frankrijk.
Impressive record of the operations of the U.S. 82nd and 101nd Airborne Divisions in the 1944 invasion of France. Shows paratroops, gliders and troop carriers landing in France behind the German lines a day prior to the main invasion, helping to prepare the way for the invasion of Normandy.

My grandfather was a pathfinder at Normandy (504 PIR), wind caught his parachute and he crashed through a farmhouse roof in the Netherlands after which he had to recite a codeword at gunpoint to prove he was American, he went on to fight in Market Garden, Bastogne, Holland, and Italy. He also played a role in liberating a concentration camp but i have little info on which one specifically. He survived the war with frostbite, although unfortunately I never got to meet him.

he did (in order): Italy, (if he is 504 he probably fought at Anzio, he didnt jump there Anzio was a naval assault) operation Overlord (D-Day), then he did operation Market Garden (in holland--> the Netherlands), then he fought in Bastogne. If he liberated a concentration or POW camp (stalag) he probably fought/was deployed in Germany as well. I doubt he did a lot in bastogne since the 82nd wasn't deployed there, so I am thinking you are making this up but whatever, could have bin transfered or something, if you want to know more about the 504th read 'strike and hold' No i do not have a life

When he fell through the roof, it must have been during Market Garden as that was in Holland, not on D-Day

Sharpening bayonets and praying? Lol… no. The battlefield is completely different and we don’t fight a conventional force anymore. We win every battle, but winning lasting peace is vastly more complex. Dumb comment.

You really are obtuse, aren’t you? You couldn’t find a better metaphor for that generation than “sharpening bayonets and prayer” but you, being a product of the post 60’s generation will never understand it. Oh, yeah, and for your “we win every battle” boast; perhaps you haven’t noticed but we just lost a 20 year war to third world goatherders fought by the finest 6% of the millennial generation because the leadership are irreligious and amoral. Virtues don’t come out of a cereal box, dummy.

Such a sales pitch movie. 🎥 So Sanitized to sell War bonds. Making it sound like it was a sporting event. And not the Horrors blood 🩸 and guts of war. Not much has changes in government. Bar non the Greatest Generation. And the Disrespect of what’s happening to America 🇺🇸 for the sacrifices these boys made is FUBAR!
