Urine Electrolyte Measurement

Ғылым және технология

This video shows Dr. Evan Matthews explaining how to use a Medica EasyLyte electrolyte analyzer to assess sodium, chloride, and potassium levels of urine. Electrolyte balance is important for proper muscle and nerve function.

    Sorry. I don't have access to the machine because of the COVID-19 pandemic. You might be able to find that information on Medica's website.

    May I ask if chlorides are positive in urine?

    Would you recommend buying one of these used? Any precautions to it wearing in a certain way or would you assume a used unit would hold up as well as a new model?

    My experience is the various parts break often even on a new one. I can't imagine it being much different on a used one. Either way you should expect to spend a few hundred dollars a year on parts. If it has not been used in awhile you will likely need to buy some electrodes and other parts to get it back to functional.

    What is the difference between blood and urine test for checking electrolytes?

    Blood values are tightly regulated by the body. Urine values change significantly based on what you eat.

    Hi, how many patients can be used for a 400ml and 800ml reactive pack. Thank's

  • @VivoPhys

    @VivoPhys

    5 жыл бұрын

    It is highly variable. Running tests does decrease the amount of solution in the pack, but the machine also uses the solution when sitting idle. We probably do 300-400 samples per year and we have had to replace the 800ml packs 2-3 times per year. The company can give you a more definite answer though.

    Unfortunately no. If you do the electrodes and tubing can dry out and stop working.

    It varies widely based on how much you consume. The more you consume electrolytes the more you will excrete.

    Hi, thanks for the video, it was wonderful and very useful! I've one question...why do we need to use diluted urine? Why not undiluted? Is there any significant difference?
