Exploring Abandoned Animal House
Another older home that resides on the Livingston Property. This is the third house that resides on an abandoned private road. Built in the late 1800s, this narrow farm house has been sitting vacant for many years. Just like the other house I was out, I returned to this one for a second look. If you remember, this house was the one where a cat ran out in front of me. The property is owned by a developer with no plans at the moment. Mr. Livingston was a famous individual in the area at the time. The entire property has been deemed historical and the developer cannot demolish anything on it. What I do believe though is the developer is waiting for the places to fall in on themselves so they can be demolished.

Thank you. You do such a great job showing these once beautiful old homes. I really enjoy “walking” through them...of course, I can’t smell what you have to smell!
Hi Steve, awesome video, really great pics !
True I have almost never heard of a developer restoring or conserving a protected national house. Too bad they don't. I wonder if this is the oldest house on the original property? It sure looks 1820's log type dogtrot style, German or Dutch. the walls are too thin for it to be, but the design was what they wanted then. This building hasn't gone as fast as I thought it would in that climate !! It is holding up to the neglect well. A freeze / thaw cycle with out the water breaking the basement and not much peeling of the paint compared to before for a years time. Great follow-up video Steve, thank you very much.

I believe the stone house that I posted before this is the oldest house on the property
Every time I see one of these videos, I just keep thinking about ALL the memories that took place within these walls.

such a crime that there isn't some construction worker that could restore it to it's former glory! It really looks like it is still in pretty good solid shape, construction wise. Thanks Steve!
Narrow or not that house was once a sight to behold. Would love to have seen it when it was first built. As always, great video.

Thank you
you seem so nice and humble; as if these homes were somehow connected to you! I love the way you explore, and your pictures are breathtaking. I hope that one day you can find a way to get all of your pictures into print; a nice little coffee table book if you will. you definitely have the talent...don't let it go to waste!! and most importantly - stay safe out there. respirators, gloves, boots, etc. =)
That place is extremely narrow bot looking from the front makes you think its huge! Kind of weird looking at these old houses imagining what they were like when new. Maybe a young couple in a different time...a different world moving in their new home. All their plans,,,hopes and dreams. They never would have dreamed of it looking like this. Wow that was deep! ; )

Wally Weener I was thinking the same and how one day the house I'm living in will be abandoned and could end up possibly looking like this
I'm in love with this little house, it's the windows on two sides! But I bet it would cost a fortune to keep it warm in the winter. This is definitely perfect for a small family, or... a family in the 1800's with 8 kids or so. No birth control back then, so a proper house should have had the three floors. I had ancestors in rural MI who had 18 kids (2 sets of twins), so you can see why they needed all the rooms. Extended family (eldest son) may have lived in this one. The set up closely resembles the family farm dwelling clusters where all the families were somehow related, and houses were built later as kids got married, or elder in-laws moved closer so the could be cared for. Typical in rural areas, I have lots of family that still live like that. You could check out the US Census to see who was living in all the houses at it's heyday. Another great video, thanks!
I would love to have the mantels, trim, etc. before the house falls down or they knock it down. Developers and even some people that want to tear down and rebuild use that let it rot plan to get rid of old historical places. Some cities have passed laws saying you can't do "demolition by neglect". The building inspectors make the owners keep them intact and fixed and not rotting away even if nobody lives in them.
The poor cat was probably saying “dang human” as it ran out the door!! 😅 Great exploration!! God bless and stay safe!! Posting from South Carolina.
Developers should not be allowed to buy historic properties unless they plan to restore them. This is a beautiful property that could have been restored.
dant it, a cat scare AND squeaking doors. i wouldve been OUT OF THERE!! lol
thanks again, Steve for another cool video!! stay safe!!

Neat, I grew up with radiators like those, in a Brick house built in 1932 :)
Wow, couldn't imagine waking up @ 2am. with a massive case of the runs & having to go down that set of steps fast to the bathroom - bad time. Thanks for another great video Steve🎈

Great video Steve and I remember the first one you did! The design of that house is so unique--a shame it had to fall into disrepair. I remember as a kid my grandmothers house have that narrow curved staircase leading to a 3rd level. Truly a gem!

All in all though, Steve, many rooms for a narrow house.
Hearing the flies buzzing through made my hair stand on end.
That camera takes such a clear picture very nice, it was probably that cat pooping on the stairs.
I would LOVE to fix this house up and call it home. so pretty.
One of my favorite places to go. Great job!

Hi Steve . Great job as usual . My first encounter with an animal was a naked man running out a window .But great tour for sure .I was in Philly and its suburbs last weekend and also went to trenton . I saw alot of sadly neglected 1700s buildings abandoned and easily accessible in Trenton especially . Some of the very poor areas of Philly have places that are not renovated .Brooklyn NY is like that as well . I was actually thinking of taking a train there and explore china town on a very empty stomach .

A very nice revisit, not much extra decay. I think the developer doesnt need it asap otherwize there woud be a few holes in the roof already too speed up decay :-)
Not a mansion but still a fairly large house and an unusual layout in that most if not all of the house is only one room wide. It would be great to somehow find out why the house was built with the rooms not in what might be called a cluster as with so many houses but in a row. The arrangement here does allow for a lot of natural light. Though the house here isn't exactly the same I'm reminded of how some of the very old plantation houses in the deep South had rooms in and to go from one to another you had to go out onto the porch or verandah and even the stairs were outside; there no hallways. If the house you explored here got moved to Indiana and got fixed up I wouldn't mind moving in! Also: I noticed a fireplace down in the basement. Didn't look big enough for kitchen use. Another mystery/interesting story for this house!

south Americans have invaded the United States. Allot of old houses have been carved up into multiple units. esp in the north east. In fact find me ONE old colonial in the north east with original layout.

I too like how you explore: carefully - you don't take unnecessary risks like some who post on you tube
What good is deemed "historical, not to be demolished“ if no funds are contributed to restoration!
It's raccoon dung. I've seen it in other old abandoned houses.
I think the attic and basement had the biggest rooms, in the entire house. The attic had 3 rooms, but the third looked way too small for a bedroom.
Brill video.really interesting.looking forward to your next.take care.

Hello Steve, just happened to run across your videos and am fascinated, cannot stop watching. How thrilling it must be! I wonder tho, are you worried about breathing all that lead paint and probably some toxic mold, or do you wear a respirator? Thank you very much!
@AbandonedSteve
8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brenda. I wear a respirator.
Looks great .............Lets develop it !
I don't think that place was going to fall down any time soon. I noticed all the large radiators in the rooms; those things are very heavy (I used to manage old apartment buildings and have moved my share of smaller radiators). Such a shame. That place was probably very nice at one time.
I paused video and animal looked more like a small fox. Plus it sounded and looked a bit heavy for a cat. Was lighter than most raccoons, but could have been one. It had a big fluffy tail too.
It's surprising how much of the old paint is peeling off the walls and ceilings in these old houses, probably from excessive moisture. Being from California, I suppose moisture isn't as big a deal here. I've never seen so much peeling paint.
@AbandonedSteve
8 жыл бұрын
Yes, it can get very humid in the northeast region
Such a shame and a waste of a really nice home! It appears that it had been lived in a bit more recently because of the electric stove coils on the kitchen counter? I'll bet the feces is animal, it would seem an animal would go up to feel safe, but I think perhaps a homeless person would want a safer place, one with an alternate exit? Lovely job of showing us about! My first visit to your site, I enjoyed it! Thanks!
Steve I'm new to your channel -just curious lets say you do an abandoned house that's in your opinion creepy- do you get that more from a visual or feeling/vibe standpoint ? That House before this was creepy and crowded, :-0. Thanks David
Excellent video Steve, amazing. I'm curious, how do you get permission to explore these houses? I'm always stopping along roads when I see one. but I'm afraid about trespassing. How do you get ahold of someone to let you in? I'm also interested in whether you were able to find out why it was built so narrowly. That's really unique.

Thank you Cathy. Just talking with the owners sometimes works. Sometimes I have ppl who follow my work who know someone that in charge too. And of course there is time I take the risk.
I remember this. It was funny!
