Urban Exploring Minnesota - The Pokegama Sanatorium (S1-EII)

Housing hundreds of Tuberculosis patients during the first half of the 20th century, the Pokegama Sanatorium now sits and crumbles away. These dark and dilapidated halls are said to be haunted with the spirits of the hospital's past. The secrets have been lost in time, resting in the collapsing building. What will happen when they are uncovered?
Recorded on December 3rd, 2017.
Camera used: GoPro HERO4 Session.
Editing Software used: Cyberlink Power Director 13.
Dedicated to those who suffer from Tuberculosis and other respiratory diseases who have passed through sanatoriums akin to Pokegama.

I actually live in Pine City and have been into the building a couple of times (don't tell the cops lol) and I can confirm it is haunted. When me and my friends at the time went there, I felt many spirits and even heard child laughter. It is so eerie and cool. There is so much history and pain tied to that place.

UPDATE: This has been a VERY long time coming, but we wanted to clarify a few things from the video. - Yes the sanatorium officially ceased operation in the late 40s. - The sanatorium would then become a seminary school for priests during the 50s and 60s. - In the 1970s the building was once again repurposed as a drug treatment/rehabilitation center and would operate until somewhere in the late 90s/2000s. (this explains the 80s furnishings and electronics). - Yes, this location is now under heavy surveillance, and arrests have been made since this video has been published. - Yes, we discourage vandalism, graffiti, and theft in these kinds of locations as we believe those actions can detract from the historically rich environment left behind. - Above all, we thank you (the viewers) for watching and supporting our videos, and we hope to bring you the best exploration experience we possibly can.

Don't know if anyone still comes to the comments here, but I do have an update as of October 2020. There is still someone that owns it and is now maintaining the upstairs at least. On one side he has bags over where the windows used to be and has painted over most of the graffiti, although some of it has come back. On the other side, it was sectioned off and swept up. Most of the asbestos insulation in the attic has been removed. Also, there are signs that say there are cameras, however I found no cameras in the woods or inside.

A friend just reminded me of this place! I researched it in 20118-19. ** It is still owned by Pine Shores, Inc and is still for sale in lots (this blg MLS 64333540 AND IS SURPRISINGLY CHEAP!!) Pleease keep in mind not everything is fact on internet. CHECK EVERYTHHING. THINGS CHANGE. The info in this video is/was a little vague in that the sanatorium shut shut down in Apr 1943 but the property was then used long after that as a school for priests and then became Pine Manor a treatment center for chemical dependency.

Investigated 7 or 8 years ago. That's not mouse droppings in the attic, it's bat guano. Can't believe you climbed up on the elevator shaft. Anyway, we caught voices and a strange light and went on to appear on My Ghost Story on the Travel Channel to talk about it. There used to be another building adjacent to it, stucco on the outside of it. It was falling apart when we did our investigation and I can see it's been demolished now. There was no activity in it anyway, other than bats. Lots of bats.

I am from Pine City and have been told that there was another building near the Sanitarium that was dedicated to the doctors and nurses. That whole are now where houses are built was dedicated to the sanitarium. I was told that the doctor/nurse housing building was used for AA or alcohol rehab after the sanitarium was shut down. Not sure if this is exactly true but have been told this by a few people so is more than likely true. Who knows.

I worked for a company that used that places kitchen and basement laundry back in 2002 when I first moved to MN. All the office furniture in the halls were put there from my Company. Most I hauled in there.myself. there were 3 buildings all linked by a tunnel system with two basements. There was a hidden basement. I always explored that plce and helped do the laundry for the pine county sheriff. Also cooked meals for the jail there. Lots of old stuff in there. Including patient cards from.ealry 1900s. The basement also had a furnace where they burned the dead patients. Still worked in 2003

Me and a couple friends went there and we were up in the attic and it felt super weird and I look down and there is an on flash light that’s on the floor. And we are like omg what is that. And one of my friends starts looking super hard at the corner and says let’s go. And you know we think he is play but he keeps say no we need to leave like now. We finally get down the the car and he said there was a figure squatting down in the corner. That place is definitely freaking and idk if I would go back

DoucheJet We've been looking at sources and there's scant information claiming it was used as a rehabilitation center in it's final days, and before that a place to train priests and other religious leaders, hence the 70s/80s furnishings and objects. Thanks for watching!

1 particle of lead paint or asbestos won't kill you in a few years, asbestos exposure will only kill you if you've inhaled a favorable exposure to it, one particle might cause difficulty breathing 15-20 years down the road if you're unlucky. And the lead will be absorbed into your system over a reasonable period of time before being flushed out, you may get a little sick but if your liver is healthy it will filter your blood properly.
